With the departure of Matt at the beginning of the year and now Marilyn, poor Adam has become a bit of a spare part. We do hear about him having various conquests with different women and his "mates down the pub" but all we ever see is him hanging around the beach, surf club, or diner on his own, and a sort-of friendship with Blake. His role seems to have been reduced to that of the town blabbermouth, a plot device, passing on incorrect information or giving people stupid advice. It's a shame, as his character is worth a lot more than that. He needs to develop stronger bonds to Bobby and Greg, characters his own age, and get some decent storylines of his own.

What is the name of the song that is played just after Bobby and Greg are pronounced husband and wife? It was played a lot in both Neighbours and H&A in the 90s.

Irene works part time at both the Diner and the store for a long time. Around late 95 she stops working at the store though there is no mention of this onscreen. Presumably to do with Ailsa's storyline and so Irene was needed more at the Diner. Not sure if it was around that storyline. From memory she just stops appearing at the store like the writers forgot she worked there. Unless my memory is wrong. Perhaps DanF could shed some light?

Ahh, the times when room moves got mentioned rather than people moving around everytime a bedroom is seen. Yes, also the times when the writers actually KNEW which character had which room. I remember 2010-ish they showed Alf in his bedroom which was the exact same room they showed as Miles' room only a few weeks apart. Even though it wasn't used as much as it was in the 90s, the upstairs rooms were still put to use through the Sutherland years and Sally and Flynn years. But now it's as if they don't even have the upstairs set any more in the current show. There used to be a post on here about all the forgotten rooms in Summer Bay House - there is Sally's attic room, the downstairs bedroom which was never seen again after Pippa's brother left (who was also never seen again), the bathroom and of course the regular bedrooms, which as c120701 points out, have different characters in them on each rare occasion we ever see them, so they never really feel like these characters' bedrooms.

IIRC Irene going to university was simply dropped around the time the Script Producer changed hands from Coral to Bevan circa 2004. It wasn't so much a storyline so much as just an ongoing development of her character that gradually became less and less mentioned. So I guess you could understand why it was eventually forgotten about but it's still a shame. I think it would be nice, even now, if they retconned that Irene did get her degree from uni. It doesn't need to be a big deal just dropped into a conversation. Even though they stopped showing it, we could believe that she continued going to uni until she graduated. Actually someone should ask Lynne about it on twitter!

Haha in episode 4000 he still called Morag "Morg" which is what he called her when they first met in 1988.

God I hated the hypocrite Nolene Burke. Too good to take charity but apprantly it's perfectly ok to rob and steal from innocent people. Weird sense of ethics! I have to admit I don't have a lot of sympathy for Sophie either. I could understand her wanting to get a job instead of going back to school if she was a struggling single mum with no family and no roof over her head. But she has the love and support of a LARGE family and network of friends, a roof over her head, meals provided for her, babysitters galore. There's no reason why she couldn't go back and at least get her HSC.

Marilyn had a pretty good exit. It seemed rubbish at first but then (thankfully!) she stuck around an extra couple of episodes and got the goodbyes she deserved. I would have liked a more sentimental scene between Adam and Marilyn because they have always had a good friendship so it's a shame there wasn't much said between them. But I liked her goodbye with Bobby (especially as it would be the last time they'd ever see each other) and the stuff with Alf was lovely, I'm glad he played a big part in her farewell. Her final scene in the car had the perfect mix of happiness and sadness. I will miss Marilyn a LOT and IIRC she does leave quite a gap in the show, but having said that I do think her story arc has come to a natural conclusion in this stint. Her character was getting to the stage where there wasn't much else for her to explore. Giving her character a break and then I can't even think of her current 2010+ stint to compare it, it just gets me too angry the way she (and other long term characters) are "written". Is that Simon gone too? Bit of a low key exit if it is.

She does tend to like the older men does our Marilyn.

It's funny that Marilyn's "happy ending" is coming up, going to watch it with an entirely different perspective this time (knowing what happens in the future). The music when Phil kissed Marilyn was a cross between "romantic" and "trouble-ahead" which seems fitting knowing what we know now. Does anyone know what other scenes that music was used it because I found it very familiar but couldn't place it.

Found it hilarious that Donald was watching "Dumb Street" with the theme song that parodies Home and Away blatantly playing I don't find the actress who plays Toni completely terrible but agree she's not the best. But let's face it she doesn't have much of a character to play. A pretty awful character, actually. Once again "super parents" Michael and Pippa get it wrong. But it was really Damien's fault this time for not telling the truth. Was quite shocking to see Adam (a grown man) beat up Shane (a boy) which I guess is why they didn't actually show it. But really, he had it coming. And I do like Adam as a character. He has his comedy moments and he has his soft spots, like Marilyn, but he still has an edge to him too. Even though I gave up caring months ago, I do think that Lucinda would be happier with Ryan than she clearly is with Nick. I had to laugh when Pippa said that her mother used to buy her awful dresses that looked like curtains. Fast forward a couple of years.... Oh and according to his twitter (he now presents a news programme) it looks like Bruce Roberts (Nick) kept a momento from his time on H&A! https://twitter.com/bruceberts/status/390664768454795264/photo/1

Likewise on both issues.

It does seem silly that in this day and age where TV shows are availible online through so many unofficial means, a channel is deliberately and unnecessarily making themselves further behind with a show than they need to be.
-
I'm glad of that because when she first left there was some awful photo shop jobs done to make Debra Lawrance appear in these photos. They tried to wipe her out. Fast forward a decade or two and they happily use Vanessa Downing's Pippa in flashbacks and voiceovers... funny how time heals all!

Yes I noticed this too, but I love the slow pace it's quite refreshing compared to current episodes. I think it was Tuesday's episode where Marilyn told Bobby she was getting married "tomorrow". By the end of Friday's episode they still hadn't made it to the wedding! The funny thing is, despite this slow pace, it's not boring, and there's plenty going on. Loved the ending to Friday's episode. All that tension and humour of Simon trying to sneak the girl out of the house without Alf seeing her, you were almost relived when he finally opened the front door, only for Ailsa to be standing there! Did other people expect that? Because I thought it was a funny twist!

I like them both in different ways, but I feel Haydn had more potential as a character wheras they have failed to really develop Simon.

I think as Network Script Executive he is involved in name only. I don't think he actually takes any active interest in the show or its direction anymore. Which is a shame, but he's been back and saved the show twice, and both times the people that followed failed to learn any lessons. You can't blame him for washing his hands of it.

Forget the hair.... that hat!!!

I was rewatching the Irene/Corey poisoning storyline on youtube. In my opinion this is the last truly great storyline Irene has had, although she has had a few good ones since, nothing has beaten that since 2005. And even that had its flaws in the lack of fallout for Irene once Corey was caught. As someone said a while ago, we had the Fletcher reunion in 2000, the Stewart reunion in 2005, it's time for a Roberts reunion. I'd tune back in to see it, but I don't think in a milion years it will happen.
-
You can tell from watching her scenes that she really enjoyed playing the role too. My guess is she simply had another job going on, probably in theatre. When the producers came knocking, she was unavailible, so they recast the role. Interesting that by June 1992, Cornelia/Morag was still thought of as the show's nastiest character.
-
I'd never have guessed from that ominous view of the cliff edge and the suspenseful music that somebody was going to fall!!

It was heartbreaking for Donald, but Morag hated Bobby and often told her things like "I should have drowned you at birth". When Bobby died Morag did finally display some sadness about the way she treated Bobby but not much. How can someone talk to their child like that? that´s just cruel It's hard to imagine it these days but back in the day Morag was a vile woman, the show has rarely had a more evil villain than Morag was in the early years.

Irene's definately a fun villain.
