Ah I could have helped with that one! It was used quite prominently in 1998 when Justine, Tiegan and Gypsy formed their band (The Broken Dolls). It was the very first song they tried out in the classroom, and they later performed it at the school dance. Great song though, thanks for the reminder! It's also reminded me of one of another classroom performance from the same year, Rebecca was auditioning kids for Romeo & Juliet and the audition piece was "I've Got a Plan" by My Friend the Chocolate Cake (which was one that appeared on the H&A Soundtrack album, one of my faves on there). I know it was used for other prominent scenes but can't remember what offhand. Love that song! One of my favourites too, it's really nice. I remember it being used during a montage of Irene going for various job interviews after she quit the Diner. Wow, the days when Irene was prominent enough to actually get a montage! I do remember a song that was sung either by Justine's band or Aaron's, or after they merged, was the same song later sung by Sally, Jude and Noah. Do you know what that one was?

True or False - little Duncan is so cute and seems to steal every scene! Love the way he chats away naturally to the other actors.

Finally found a song I have been searching for for years (mainly because I had no idea what they were singing). It goes "I got a feeling, I got a notion. Shaka Uwaye La. Shaka Uwaye La!" It was used in the episode prior to Shane's death, during the picnic when they were having fun and taking photos and was used infrequently in the mid-late 90s. "Shaka Uwaye La" by Swoop. There's no sign of it on youtube but it is on spotify.

Perhaps but "bitch" hasn't been used for a long time. I remember when Beth slapped Amanda (who had just murdered Beth's father and stolen all his money) and then called her a "witch". It was so out of place and unrealistic. In a scene in 1995 Stevo begins to call Dodge a callous bastard, but gets cut off after "bas-". Nowadays he'd probably say "Why you nasty man" From PG to PC....
-
Yes she did although it was hard to make out what fingers she was holding up. The only other time I can remember this happening was Matt doing it to Fisher as he drives by in one of the earliest episodes. Ah, now I understand what Hulk is talking about. I was confused because I remember when the show became PG for the first time, I think it was during the Stalker storyline in 2005, and I was sure it had never been before that. It's ironic because I think we are nearing the end of the era words like slag and bitch are ever used on the show.

I haven't noticed language any stronger than what we have occasionally heard since 1988 either.

Have they actually removed the door from the bottom of the stairs in the Beach House? Strange!! I remember when it first appeared with the set makeover in 1996, but it wasn't actually acknowledged as another room until years later IIRC.

Old H&A Fan, I'm just dumbfounded that somebody needs a "scientific explanation" why people would be sad that a baby died. It's like... wow. Who would ever need that explained to them?! Why didn't Sally react the same as Finlay? Erm, how about they are different people! Everybody reacts to things differently. There is no scientific explanation for it, other than the fact that human beings are all different. They don't all conform to your idea of what is normal behaviour (even if your idea is nobody else's - nobody else on here is questioning the characters' reactions! Maybe this should tell you something.)
-
So how should Sally - a sensitive young teenage girl - have reacted to seeing a little baby die in front of her? This is not a rhetorical question. I want to know how you would have written Sally's reaction to that scene. Should she have been sad, upset, indifferent, happy, overjoyed?? Maybe she should have asked Pippa there and then if she could have her friends over for a big party and have boys round and play spin the bottle because hey - it was only her step brother, right? Why should she care? I really want to know how you think she should have reacted.

Yes and No. Jazz was introduced in 2007 as the bitchy mother of Drew Curtis but was little more than a 2 dimensional plot device who wasn't especially memorable. Bevan Lee brought her back early in 2008 and virtually re-wrote her into a much more well rounded character who could be bitchy but was also very funny and likeable - ultimately a loveable loser who made bad choices. Actually, she was very similar to Naomi Canning in Neighbours. Bevan clearly "created" this excellent character with hopes that future writers would bring her back - her exit was very open ended. Unfortunately as we know, the writers that followed did not share the same vision with this and most other aspects. A great character with so much potential - down the drain.

I really had no time for Martha from 2005-2007. A shallow character with little to no development. I know a lot of people liked her and Jack's relationship and I don't want to disrespect that but I found it very hollow and unlikeable. It was like they hero-worshipped each other just for the sake of it, and we were supposed to think they were amazing as a result, without actually seeing any reason for why they were great or why they were so in love, other than the fact they kept saying it and the writers kept telling us. However, from 2008 (thanks in no small part to Bevan Lee), the writers finally got it right and as time went on Martha transformed into a subtle but strong, likeable and increasingly layered character. Towards the end, I really liked Martha. She's one of the few H&A characters that happened with, for me.

IIRC he appeared earlier in that episode as a man who couldn't afford to pay for his meal. Ailsa let him go without paying and her kindness was repayed by him sneaking in at night and robbing the tills. I don't know if he attacked her as such but he certainly gave her a hell of a scare. From what I remember he isn't really mentioned after that, there is no mention of the police finding him.

(... youtube) She said they didn't have space but when Angel said she could stay in a caravan, Pippa explained what she meant was with Damien, Finlay, Sally, plus Chris and Dale, she simply didn't have the energy to look after anybody else.
-
I always remembered Angel wanting to live with Pippa when she first arrived (is this the first time ever Pippa has said no? I almost fainted with shock even though I knew it was coming!! :o ). But this is why I like that Angel eventually lives with Pippa when her house is destroyed in 1996 (and they both become close through their mutual being widowed - see my avatar!). It's like her character comes full circle by that point, with Pippa finally being there for her like she was unable to before. And it's funny, I'd also always vaguely remembered something about Angel wanting to be a writer. But then I always figured my memories were just getting Angel and Shannon muddled. Nice to know I was right after all. It's strange how this aspect of Angel's character is dropped and then given to Shannon.

Donna Bishop/Rob Storey (1994-1995)
beau_t replied to Homeandawayfan.'s topic in Character/Actor Discussion
I liked Donna. The actress was OK as far as I remember and she was a likeable person. The creation of her character was interesting in that she was (apparently) and old Summer Bay resident who went to school with the original Fletcher kids. I think being around for a short time and only having one decent story, doesn't make her a bad character, but I understand how she could be called forgettable. -
He did return for a guestie in 1999 which was quite fun.

Adam's currently back with Greg and Bobby.
-
see Bobby calling Ailsa "Alsa" (1150) I've always assumed it could be said either way as Bobby is not the only one who does it. Morag always said ALE-sa, I guess that's the correct way.

I agree that Tug hasn't actually apologised for setting Shane up and sending an innocent guy to prison! Pretty serious stuff. And everyone's just telling Shane to get over it. No wonder things go the way they do...
-
Deleted By the way, why do you call Ailsa "Alsa"? Is that on purpose too?
-
Yes Don couldn't believe his luck when Shane kept adding more and more weeks onto his punishment. The way he was trying not to smile

Fin has been giving with one hand and taking away with the other. She has been supporting and encouraging Irene and yet at the same time, showing no confidence in her, and I actually think this is good writing because for years Finlay has seen Irene go through this before, and it always ends with Irene returning to her old ways. You really can't blame her for having little faith in Irene because she has been let down so many times in the past. We have heard this so many times from Finlay ever since she first arrived in the bay in 1991, so really it wouldn't make any sense for her to be behaving in any other way towards her mum. She loves her mum and she wants her to succeed, but she can't allow herself to really believe it will happen because she can't face the disappointment again.

Sorry that I can't directly answer your question, I just wanted to comment that this storyline had potential to be an excellent idea as well as providing great links to the past, but was instead very very flawed. In fact it was this storyline, combined with the arrival of the Riverboys, that put me off Home and Away for good.

It was never personal between Pippa and Ailsa though, in fact I remember when Pippa told Michael she was going to stop baking for the Diner, she said "I'm going to tell Alf Stewart where to stick his part time job," which is strange as it was Ailsa's business, but obviously the hatred was directed at Alf. I think Ailsa was just caught in the middle of it all. There was also the falling out where Michael was supporting Lois Croft and the Stewarts had an arguement with Pippa and Michael before storming out their house, but in that case it was Pippa who was caught in the middle while Michael was the antagonist. A storyline where Ailsa and Pippa truly fell out in a storyline of their own (not involving their husbands falling out) would have been a good emotional storyline but I don't think it ever happened.
