Darryl 'Brax' Braxton - Steve Peacocke
kmp1963 replied to dncllpyk's topic in Character/Actor Discussion
I agree with the part in bold. I am a fan of the River Boys as a "band of brothers" and what they brought to the show. As far as I am concerned that era ended with the death of Casey and the departure of Heath. What is going on now with Brax doesn't interest me. The part not in bold I don't agree with. I think the show is in a transition similar to what happens after any iconic character or group of characters leaves. Aden and Belle, Shane and Angel, etc It's happened many times before. My interest is in how this transition is handled and where they transition to. My concern John is that they're just moving straight into Braxtons 2.1. The Barrets, Ash, Kyle and Ricky are just carrying on with the same old, same old that we've had since the day the Braxtons arrived. They've even resurrected the River Boys who had effectively vanished for the last year or so. I don't see transition myself, I see a desperate attempt to hang on to something that's time is over. Originally the Braxton formula worked largely because of great chemistry between the original brothers. But most of all it was the sheer talent of Steve that carried the whole thing. However he has gone and it will not work without him. That was the point I was trying to make John. Unfortunately I don't believe Lucy will accept this. Alas 'The Sons of Hypocrisy' lives on Damn where's that remote. -

I do think John that even the keenest Braxton fan would have to admit that there is some truth to lotb's assertion that tptb are dragging every last ounce of value they can out of Brax's popularity. This exit story is becoming so ridiculously dragged out, that it is painful. Especially when compared to how most are treated. Andrew Morely's sudden exit being a classic example. Apparently they are going to drip feed Brax scenes for as long as they possibly can. It does feel like there is a hint of desperation in this. The producers have invested so much in this character. And I personally believe that has come at the cost of developing other characters. I guess the next few months will show if the show will continue on strong without him. Or if the assertion that Home and Away was turned into nothing more than the Braxton Show will be proven correct. -
Like with Heath before him, Andy's case of SUPTS just doesn't work for me. I hate this guy, every time he smirks that smug face makes me want to hit the off button.

Phoebe Nicholson - Isabella Giovinazzo

Liked Phoebe in the beginning, especially as she refused to just blindly buy into the whole Braxton ethos and didn't do as Brax ordered. Then, she just became another obedient little Braxton WAG, albeit with a bit more personality than most. But still, I tuned out. Now she's got her mojo back. Loving it. -
Just a vague question really. How come back in the day, SBH had enough space for half a dozen kids? Now they seem to suggest there is barely room for four or five people. I would love to see it with loads of people again. Ditto, the beach house. The producers obsession with certain characters in the last few years has been reflected in the number of characters living in Braxton manor and the farm house. Bring back the missing bedrooms in the former. And fill them up. Please Dan.

To true, unfortunately the audience were all quite happy to overlook or just forget the Braxtons crimes, none of which they actually paid for or showed much remorse for. And given this history, the producers no doubt believe they can pull the same swifty with Andy.
-
Fire someone who looks good shirtless? Are you mad? That would be the reason they hired him. And considering he is supposed to be only 16 that is just wrong on so many levels..
-
Unfortunately RR1 it appears he won't pay for his crimes. Apparently the current producers believe that cold blooded murder is the path to redemption And I do believe it is an example of how badly the show really has lost its way.

I've given up trying to figure it out for myself, so help. Exactly how old is VJ supposed to be now anyway? He's been soras'ed so many times I've completely lost track.
-
Another, one dimensional, poorly conceived character. Not helped by her appalling taste in men. I suppose it's possible that sans Andy, I could JUST cope with her. But not holding my breath. Walk Hannah, walk, all the way back to where you came from.

And again, as with Heath before him, we're supposed to ignore all the violence and crime this scumbag has been responsible for. And as with Heath he's suddenly had a complete personality transplant. All due to the right woman. Please, not again. Every time I see his smirk I usually turn off the TV. (It saves my poor TV from random flying objects). Dan, please kill this douchebag off. SOON. Pretty, pretty, please.

Nathaniel "Nate" Cooper - Kyle Pryor
kmp1963 replied to AznPride112's topic in Character/Actor Discussion
Due to not watching the show much the last year or so I had missed a lot of that. So, with that in mind. Please bring back Sid or better yet Rachael. However I do still think the show goes out of its way to excuse the actions of its bad boys while hanging the good guys out to dry. The double standard that has prevailed in the last few years is appalling, apparently if you come from a bad background everything is forgiven, if not you should be held accountable. The hypocrisy the show has practiced in recent years is appalling. -

Actually I want to like Nate, but it is hard. I want to like him because he's a nice guy and they are in very short supply in Summer Bay these days. Also as a doctor he has so much more to offer the show than all the muscle bound thugs who surf all day, commit crimes, behave like creeps and still always get the girl. Unfortunately Nate, like Zac exists purely to prove the shows premise that nice guys are losers. A premise that has dominated the show for the last four years. And unfortunately due to this all the nice guys are written as boring. I do think he also suffers from being in Sid's shadow and as he was never boring, well enough said The show used to be able to write nice guys as fun, hot and still interesting, but until they get over the current obsession with the whole bad boys rule bull, unfortunately nice guys like Nate will continue to be (deliberately) written as boring. -
Darryl 'Brax' Braxton - Steve Peacocke

Yes the writing has hit new lows. As usual the show has worried about nothing more than making everyone feel sorry for poor darling brax, yuck. It is a perfect example of what has been wrong with the show for the past four seasons. Lazy writing, ridiculous stories, glamorizing violent criminals and above all the constant preferential treatment given to this thug. When you consider how ruthlessly the show treated poor little ruby at the end, have her commit a ridiculously uncharacteristic crime, chuck her in a cop car and never mention her name again. So what if an orphaned 18 year old cops kid goes to jail? God only knows what would happen to her in there. But no problem. And not the least mention of her or any future concern about her by the braxtons. You know, those stand up guys responsible for so much of it. Not to mention braxs promise that she was family. A promise that lasted as long as his promise to Charlie about leaving the river boys. But when st brax goes to jail, big, tough as nails, gang leader, drug dealer, violent thug extrordinaire. We get all this ridiculous, how terrible, what a horrible place prison is, bu****t drama designed to make us feel sorry for the creep. Good riddance to bad rubbish I say. Yes it would have been great to see a story that was believable, that brax went to prison for a crime he did commit. And given both how many of those there were and the way he always deals with things, it wouldn't have taken any imagination on the writers part to come up with an exit story for this thug that was both believable and TRULY deserved. But no, true to form even at the end tptb are still protecting this douchebag. Even now, after all the rubbish about how he changed, we also have him handing over leadership of the river boys. A shallow and infantile plot on the writers part to make Ash into Brax mark two. No doubt we are supposed to believe they have ALL given up dealing drugs for a living. Just another example of the producers contempt for their audiences intelligence. Sorry, rant over. Short version. So long sucker. Couldn't happen to a more deserving guy.
