  1. 1. While I don't doubt that Amber loves Jai, I have little sympathy for her. There's no denying that Dean crossed a line, but the only reason he did it was out of the same desperation that some parents in real life runaway with their kids for. There are so many things in the situation that Amber could have done in a more reasonable manner. Reigning in her mom Compromising with Dean Resisting the urge to constantly threaten him with cutting him off from Jai every time he dare disagree with her. Instead, she caused nearly every issue in the relationship by making everything about her ego, her feelings, or her toxic sense of entitlement. The fact that she's currently sympathetic doesn't erase that fact. And I am extra peeved because, judging by soap opera logic, she's gonna be portrayed as a blameless, innocent victim. 2. I thought Dean blaming Colby was a bit off too, but I guessed a few reasons behind it - Dean blames him because once again, he was unwilling to have his back in a bad situation, despite the numerous times Dean has done the opposite for his family. - Dean blames him because helping him has caused most of the bad stuff in his life. I'm not that familiar with his backstory, but from what I recall from the information members have told me, a good number of the stuff on his record was because he helped Colby with something, only for Colby to leave him holding the bag. -Dean was just angry and needed a target. 3. I like where Ziggy is in right now. After giving Dean grief for covering for Colby, she went and covered for Tane for a crime she doesn't even know the full details of. Hypocritical
  2. Speaking of which, what is John's beef with Dean?
  3. 1. WOW! Den has really lost a LOT by trying to always back up Colby. 2. I still dont see why they cant just limit it to long distance contact then and have her come over on special occasions. Or at the very least, just tell her Jai exists and explain to her why they (Amber) dont want him left along with her. From what you said she had enough awareness to realize when she's slipping so its possible shell understand and accept whatever arrangemtn they could make.
  4. Amber and her mom are the type of people you DONT want to deal with in a co parenting situation. They can use Jai to justify themselves all they want, but Not only are they bitter, theyre so self involved they cant even try to keep peace with Dean for Jai's sake. Also Dean had a football career?
  5. That is a fair point, but I dont see why they just couldnt agree to watch her just in case. Similar to supervised visits. Or better yet, limit em to phone contact and then move on to supervised visits. Another way could be having one of them drop by her house to see if she's well enough before bringing him. To me it seems like this issue wouldnt be so difficult if Amber would learn to compromise and/or communicate instead of trying to make it her way.
  6. The main reason for the theory is the possibility that not being his son would be easier to recover from than him being his son and then getting cut off from him by Amber 1. I havent heard anyone say Amber is mistreating Jai or is a bad mother. Im saying she's metaphysically using him as either a means of control or an excuse to make an already complicated situation worse than it needs to be. And the issue isnt just the fact that she held out, its the demeanor she's shown ever since as well. She only told Dean under desperation and duress. And anytime they tried to move forward, there was always reluctance on her part.. She constantly gives this demeanor that she should be raising Jai on her own, and wishes Dean had walked away. 2. When it comes to situations like this, I always bring up the question "would the reaction be the same if it was the other way around". Whether Dean was sensitive enough or not is irrelevant because it wasnt a situation that should have been about anyone's pride, insecurities, grudges or whatever other hang up. Dean heard she having money issues and he wanted to help his son and the mother of his son. I dont recall him claiming to want her owing him or something. Like I said before, we know she's been raising Jai longer. She knows that, and Dean knows that. There was no reason for it to go there. 3. I want to say more, but Im commenting as someone who's been on the Australian episode pace. Its probably better to wait untill you guys see later episodes to understand more of what Im trying to say.
  7. Not being a couple has never been an excuse. Unless Dean wasnt around, she still should have told him. And how can you be so sure that Dean wouldnt have been a dad? For all her talk, it should be noted that Amber was with the River Boys same as him. I doubt she was some choir girl that got led astray by him. And, the issue isnt as simple as her having a say. How to put this............................As good as her excuses sound, its pretty obvious that in her eyes, Dean is a nonperson. She wanted to raise Jai on her own and she didnt care who that would end up hurting. Dean is trying to be a father to Jai, but Amber keeps looking for reasons to push him away. Anytime Dean doesnt agree with her on something, she has no problem holding Jai over his head. The problem is that the situation has the potential to be like the movie Alexandra's Project. Amber seems perfectly ready to take Jai and run if theres even the slightest disagreement/issue crops up. And with so many kids growing up fatherless because of deadbeats, it has to be grating when it comes to cases where the mother actively alienates their kids just cuz they dont want to work out whatever issue they have.
  8. Its not just Amber, its also the circumstances. I wont deny that there arent people who want the twist. Im one of those people, ESPECIALLY now for spoilery reasons. But I started out as suspicious due to the fact that she only decided to bring this up when Dean was about to go search for Bella. Not the moment she found out she was pregnant, not the moment she arrived at the bay. Then I started rooting for it when it became clear how much of a #BitterBabyMama she would be. Dean had to literally beg her to even see the kid. And even then she didnt even want to introduce them right. Also, theres the overall situation. The way it is now, she has complete control of his access to Jai, and she could cut it off for whatever reason. And between the two of them, shes been the one looking for stuff to complain about.
  9. It wasnt really about Dean being petty or punishing Ben. Its just about Dean being in a state where the business was the LAST thing on his mind. Plus, Im still new to Dean's run on the show, so what was the agreement between Dean and Ben regarding the business? If the place is really signed over to Dean then what he does with it shouldnt affect Ben or anyone else in Ziggy's family. Speaking of which, why couldnt Ziggy run the business? I just want to get the context because Ziggy acted like the situation could have affected her family financially. You do have a point, Ziggy is still anxious after what she learned. It just chafes when I see soap operas show that double standard. But still, when you constantly poke at someone, they snap. Im pretty sure thats just how it is. John on the other hand.........Like I said, Im still new to the show currently and getting to know the characters. John is new to me, but it seems like he either has some long standing grudge with Dean or he's another cranky/snarky old guy that likes taking jabs at younger people (which unimpresses me the same way Alf does). If that is the case then Ive got zero sympathy for him. I know from certain people in my life that when you spend most your time taking shots at people, you shouldnt be surprised if someone either reaches their breaking point or just doesnt have the mood to put up with it.
  10. Id like to hear how either of you would feel like in Dean's circumstance. As far as im concerned leaving to blow off steam is better than sticking around and possibly lashing out. I didnt like how the first thing they both chose to do was get on his case about how his leaving inconvenienced them. They both should know Dean well enough to know he wouldnt have left like that unless it was for a serious reason and could have at least asked regarding how he was doing emotionally. Ziggy dumped him. Of course the last thing on his mind would have been watching over HER family's business. And she knows full well why he would be under stress. Amber needs to just plain pick a lane before getting on him about his responsibility to Jai. She should know Dean couldnt take off unless it was serious, especially since he practically had to fight her to even see whaat Jai looked like. And yeah Im still hanging on to the possibility that Jai isnt his and current storylines now have me HOPING its not the case. Im not saying they shouldnt have brought up these issues with him, I just wished they had shown a bit more empathy instead of just jumping to calling him a deadbeat.
  11. I just needed details on who 100% chose to do what.
  12. Yeah, but my question is whether Colby coaxed him into helping or if Dean insisted on covering for him.
  13. Thanks. Just to be clear did Dean Insist on hiding the body or did Colby coerce him into it?
  14. I never made a claim that Niku was perfect, I was just saying he's not the toxic character you claimed Red. He wasnt manipulating Bella or whatever, he was just helping her because she was spiraling, she was gonna run off on her own regardless of what Nikau decided, and it was understanable that he wouldnt want to force her to stay after he just heard what type of position Colby and the rest put her in. And it wasnt even like he could actually tell someone else what was going on. Like HALover said, she was in a bad head space and wasnt in the best state to do an interview, especially one where she was supposed to cover for her brother. And this is what I meant when I said all the other adults were in the same category as Colby. Unwittingly or not, they all would have ended up forcing her to stay in a situation she wasnt doing well with. This is why I was a bit irked with Tane an Ari. They simply say that there was a better way without even elaborating on it. The situation wasnt that simple. You cannot really say that if They had stopped Bella and forced her to go to the interview, she would have been just as composed. Its like judging someone for a mistake they made without considering what you would have felt or done in their same circumstances. PS. And as someone who missed that storyline with Ross. Would anyone be so kind as to tell what exactly went down and who played what role exactly.
  15. Everyone youve mentioned are practically in the same category as Colby, minus Tane. I cant even recall Bella and Tane even having a conversation. Now if you really want me to believe that there was even a chance that Nikau could have physically stopped Bella from leaving by going for and adult, Im gonna need you to go back to that scene and break down the realistic alternate scenario youre thinking about. And for all your talk about Nikau being unable to be a responsible adult in the situation, Ive yet to hear you say that much about the girl who chose to leave in the first place, despite Colby and Dean already telling her it was a bad idea.
  16. Now youre stretching a bit. Im not replying to HALover for posting mean things about Nikau. They havent even possted anything like that, even if youre claims about me were true. An while you keep stating how Nikau should have turned her in to Colby, it should probably be recalled that along with her plans, Bella had also told Nikau that Colby, the cop whose been harassing his family, was guilty of killing her father (justifiably or not) and is now expecting her to lie in a police interview. Would it have really made sense for Nikau to even WANT to bring her back to Colby aafter that.
  17. Because Bella's is not without agency in this situation. She was ready to leave with or without Nikau. It was already pointed out that she knew how to disappear and the reason I find it impossible to stop her is because from my knowledge, All the adults were somewhere else at the time and I doubt Bella would have waited. And I am not "jumping on anyone who says the slightest bad thing about Nikau" Im disagreeing and expressing my opinion. Youre the only one Ive been having this with. And mainly because you are trying to make a well intentioned action more sinister than it was. Nikaus has never been that selfish, and hes never been that manipulative, especially when it came to Bella. For all the bad things you believe there is to say, I ve yet to see you be this critical of Bella, who decided to run away to begin with, or Colby, who more or less put her in this position by killing Ross.
  18. No Bella did that. SHE was the one who decided to leave in the first place because she was the one that the police wanted to interview. The only effect Nikau coming along had was getting his family involved, which is basically why Bella came back in time. And I doubt she sold Alf a rose tinted story. Alf looks like the type with an old fashioned view on how to treat women, so she likely just told him what happened and he accepted. Plus, this isnt the first time Ive heard of him dropping his "all young people are trash" attitude because one kid did something HE would do in his day. Ranger you seem like someone whose ready to see Nikau as the worst no matter what. Can you really expect him or any other character in his position to have just let her run off to try to drag an adult over. And just because he had ONE beef with a person, does not mean he's ready to rush them over the slightest thing.
  19. They did tell him, but my point is the majority of the speech was more focused on how the situation affected them. I think they should have expressed just why they were concerned and how bad things could have gotten. And while they do have moments, there have been moments where they do come off like they see Nikau is JUST a kid theyre looking after for as a favor. And why would Nik have had a "man strop". If it was because Bella got involved when he asked her for space, that would be something Ive only seen certain female characters do. Just cuz Nikau has had his angry moments, it doesnt mean hes THAT petty.
  20. 1. I think the issue Nik hadd with Bella leaving is the same issue that some might have if Nik ha one the same to Bella instead. It was the day after they made love, they were both virgins beforehand (to my knowlege) and they had both ssort of comitted to each other inaa emotional sense. Plus, despite what some may claim, Nikau was aware of what hed be giving up to run with her. So her leaving afterwards was probably like a slp in the face. 2. Cap: I should remind that I wa pretty late to the Paratas arrival, so I missed a few arcs. As much as I like it when those two stop fighting, I didnt really like them in that scene for various reasons. A) With the state Nikau was in, it just looked like them kicking him while he was down. He already felt like a fool and that Bella had used him, and they more or less just fueled that for their own benefit. B) While Ari was more concerned than Tane was acting, they both looked kind of selfish with the dialogue they were using. There should have been a mention about the fact that if they hant come along, there would have been a warrant issued and that Nikau would have been caught in the crossfire when ARMED men started chasing after them. There should have been talk about them running out of food and ening up in the cold. There should have been talks about how they could have been attacked by a stranger or kidnapped. Instead it was just a rant about how they would have been affected. Not to mention how glad they were to let Nikau stay in his mood as long as they didnt have anymore grief. C) It sort of reinforced my concerns about their dynamic. I know there was an arc where Nikau helped Ryder after he got harassed by some con artist. I missed that arc and Id like to know how Ari and Gemma had reacted. Mainly because Im noticing a pattern where they keep disapproving him helping people outside the family. Its partly why I made an earlier comment about them treating him like a gang recruit than. nephew, along with the fact that they kept telling him to keep his mom out of the loop. 3. All this said, I LOVE the arc Colby is going through. I didnt see him in his early years, but whatever redemptive qualities he may have had were Long gone when I saw him. After weeks of using his badge to harass a family for the most petty and hypocritical reasons, hes getting his Karma
  21. Didnt Bella have a mom too? I heard she was with them until Ross killed her for trying to get Bella out. And what I meant in terms of them being similar is just the fact that theyve lived in ways that make them think running away is the best idea when it comes to the law. And my point is basically that the situation they were in wasnt as simple as the adults tried to make it. So I chafed a bit with everyone just telling Nikau that there was a better way to handle it and not telling what that would have been.
  22. I think they are similar in how they were raised. They both have pasts that involve conflicts with the law. Both have them have had to live on the run, explaining their penchant for running away in bad situations, and both of them have pasts with their fathers that make them slightly resentful to the people currently trying to fill their role. Does anyone else think there's gonna be twist where Dean isn't the father. I just think its possible because of the blond hair, the fact that Amber now has a chance to get back with Dean (which she sort of low key wanted since day one), and the fact that she only decided to tell Dean right when he was about to do something for Colby, which likely made her panic after what happened to her brother.
  23. 1. I should have mentioned this before, but its been a while since Ive watched this series. When it comes to soap operas, I only subscribe for certain characters. As soon a Matt Paige left, I tuned out of it. But oof the top of my head, I recall an arc where he haad robbed an ATM an didnt go to jail for it. I recall reading something about Hunter burning down a diner one time and tried to kill a dude and only getting community service for the latter. Then theres Brax and Heath, who are in a gang and did heavens knows how many crimes. Yet theyre both living their best in other places. And I read about how Angelo commited a murder, covered it up, and managed to work his way BACK into the police force. Also the fact that Colby himself was part of a gang and managed to become a cop to start with. After a few years of watching Neighbours, Shortland street and snippets of this show, I think its safe to say that the only characters who face actual consequences for bad things are the antagonists or the ones who are set to depart. Nikau's case isnt really special in that regard. 2. I think youre exaggerationg a bit. He has done it before but it hasnt been as frequently as youre implying and its not like its over every petty issue that comes up. If youre referring to when he called out Tane, im pretty sure that's what every character has done whenever theyre mad at someone. 3. When has he done anything that endangered Bella. From what I recall, every time Bella has had some kind of turmoil, he's tried to help her the best way he knew how to deal with a bad situation. Thats sort of something they both have in common, how theyve had to live in the past. And speaking of Bella. For all youre claims of Nikau being the bad guy, because he seemingly ddidnt try hard enough to convince Bella to stay, what about Bella. You dont think she's in the wrong for letting him come along, instead of telling him no?
  24. 1. "Oh, boo-hoo, poor little Nikau, are the big bad grown-ups being horrible to him?" That is not what I was trying to say. My point is basically that A) Just because he's made mistakes and has issues, it doesnt mean he's the irredeemable worst you seem to see him as. B) While they are making efforts to keep him on a good path, Tane and Ari have been implied to be bad examples for him and still arent the 100% perfect people to be guiding him on honest living, especially Tane. Which lead me to- C) While his mistakes arent excusable, they are understandable and preictable given the supposed background of his character. Especially on a show that, from what I understand is all about a beach town that helps troubled teens and has most likely had more than one teen character with troubled backgrounds and flaws to grow out of. (Cap: Since the show is presenting him as a teen-ish character, I'm seeing him as a teen-ish character). Given everything we know about the family, it makes sense he'd have issues with his emotions, his family, his grief and (in this case) the law. He's no more of a lost cause than every other troubled person thats lived in that town before him. Speaking of which, I think the arc youre referring to is the one where he thought his mom was sleeping with Roo and Bella had just broke up with him. 2. As much as you want to blame Nikau, Bella decided for herself that she was gonna run away. Colby and Dean had ALREADY told her leaving was a bad idea, but she was stubborn in her belief that she could and should, hide from the law. Nikau has never been able to "make" her do anything and he couldnt do that now. I doubt Nikau telling Colby would have helped or made sense. Nikau had just found out that the dude who's been harassing his family, largely out of spite, had killed his girlfriends father (abusive or not), and is now putting pressure on her to lie in a police investigation. And even If he had decided to tell Colby or anyone, and she had been dragged to the station, Bella would have likely been in a worse state than before. She then would have messed something up, then likely run away afterwards, especially if Angelo had wanted a follow up.
