Yeah I get what you mean It actually took me a long time to 100% confirm what the building actually was - I'd read numerous times about the Beacon Store in my research over the years, but it seems all those who worked on the conservation and heritage of the area weren't actually aware of its exact location and had no records of it. They had it marked down on maps as likely to be directly opposite the Boathouse (diner), and they'd incorrectly labelled the actual Beacon Store as the site of an unknown building, possibly a campsite launderette. There certainly was a lot of history there in Summer Bay terms which we never learnt about on-screen - before it was sold to Ailsa, the store was run for years by Stan & Julia Fogarty (the parents of Bobby's adoptive mother Doris Simpson), and Martha Stewart worked there a couple of days a week when Stan & Julia went to the city to pick up stock.

I thought it may be of interest to Blaxland 89 as it happens to be in Newport, where they're staying
-
Yes, there's a story/picture preview on the main site for those interested http://www.backtothebay.net/news/2017/03/02/uk-home-away-specials/ They're on 5STAR on Monday and Tuesday evenings.

I'm not sure on the accuracy with that, as it certainly wasn't a regular filming location in the early years (even having reached 1995 it's been rarely seen), and it sounds quite similar to the story of the Beacon Store opposite, which is detailed here and also occurred in 1989. The backdrop wouldn't necessarily be accurate for the actual exterior though, especially if they don't plan to use it for scenes. I know at one point the backdrop seemed to be of this area. Palmy's General Store is in the spot you mentioned, but I know it's not that one.

Unfortunately, as with his final store, I haven't been able to track it down. For some reason neither of them were ever used in any exterior scenes, so I've only had stock shots to go on which haven't really helped. Whilst there were a couple of scenes which were supposed to be 'just outside' or 'around the corner', they didn't use the same location as the stock shot. However.... ...this request has now been fulfilled - and it might just be in an area of interest for you too Andrew & Donna's Flat Thanks to QA as ever for the pics.

Sounds like Episode 2314 - unfortunately my eps are sporadic in those first few months and I don't think I have that one.

Yeah that's 'Asleep on the Lawn' by The Hampdens I'm sure that one was either one they sang as part of the band(s), or as part of their musical version of Romeo & Juliet... though I'm not sure offhand whether it was supposed to be an original or not. Been flicking through some of those eps to try and find it again but no joy so far. I haven't been able the find the song from when Don & Maz went to the church either.

Yup they're all uploaded by myself (not that BTTB technically owns them of course) Go for it. The Pinterest thing is just a way for people to share pics from the page, like the Facebook share buttons etc.

Hopefully we'll be getting something sorted this year which will make all that sort of information much more accessible.

I'm working on the page for the 2001-2008 location (the grimy one Beau mentioned), and we've got pics for two more SBH locations used after that which will be up at some point. The current one is awaiting photography.

The second filming location for Summer Bay High has now been added to the site: Summer Bay High School (1996-2001) And so we move from a hospital, to a hotel We did actually have this one on the site around 12 years ago - but as I didn't have the episodes to hand to check through back then, and with the map on the H&A production paperwork I had not actually specifying which exact buildings they'd used, I ended up taking a pic of the wrong side
-
Not really worth a thread, so thought I'd post this in here: There's also two new locations on the site this week which are being discussed in the Location thread: Summer Bay High School (1988-96, 2000, 2008-09) Northern Districts Hospital (1994-2010)
-
Yup, that one is awaiting upload (and was actually used until 2001).

Merged the Sydney thread into this one as they're pretty much covering the same topics I did find that one a couple of years back - whilst I'm informed that photographs have been taken, I don't yet have them in order to put it up on the site. In that case, today's update will hopefully be of some significant interest! These have been a long time coming, what with wanting to ensure accuracy with the info and provide decent screencaps for comparison, but two major locations have now been added to the site: Summer Bay High School (1988-96, 2000, 2008-09) Northern Districts Hospital (1994-2010) Whilst I don't usually upload two in one go, you'll soon see why I decided to add both at the same time... The photographs of the various buildings around the complex are placed alongside the relevant screencaps, so be sure to go through the gallery in its entirety if you want to see all the familiar spots. Thanks to QA as ever, who I think has taken no less than three trips to the filming location over the years as more of its buildings came to light We do have some of the other school and hospital locations, which will come in future updates.

Originally they specifically didn't name the city as they didn't want to pin it down to a particular place in Oz, but that idea didn't really last that long. It soon became pretty clear that it was Sydney. As for why they still just call it 'the city', well that's just familiarity, I live just outside a city and I don't usually call it by name, not many people do, they just say they're going into town. Summer Bay is generally said to be at least a couple of hours away though, so not really considered a part of Sydney like Palmy and the Northern Beaches often are.

Ellie was in this week's Oz eps

Olivia Fraser Richards - Raechelle Banno
Dan F replied to dontletmego's topic in Character/Actor Discussion
Since her most recent stint began. Whilst she was credited as 'Richards' on her 2005 stint, I guess it would make sense that they'd want both her deceased mother and father to be honoured in the name, considering she was brought up in a Fraser household for the second half of her childhood. -
Quite, it's surprising just how often he does pop up

Probably about a 10-15 minute walk - from the Nash/Fraser apartment you can take the steps up to Beach Road, then walk through the small clifftop reserve which stretches round the back of Josie & Amanda's apartment - down the steps to where The Palace once stood and where Noah proposed to Hayley, and then walk the length of Fishermans Beach to the Beachside Diner and old Bait Shop.

Since the busy period with the Most Popular Character poll died down, over past few weeks we've uploaded several weeks worth of extended summaries for 1989 - which now brings the year to completion. A big thanks to RR1 and Jeremai who have helped fill in the gaps! Since I last posted in here, we've also had new character profiles for Charlotte King, Tank Snelgrove, Jackson Dunn and Dallas Phillips (with thanks to RR1 and Matt). And we've also two new locations, Dylan's Baptism which was added a few weeks ago, and today the location of the Nash/Fraser Apartment. Thanks to QA for heading out to take pics on one of her many location road trips for us. Behind the scenes we've actually been pretty manic this past few weeks, continuing work on a new section which we'll talk about soon, and also a rather exciting feature that we shall be publishing on Monday Be sure to keep checking www.backtothebay.net to keep abreast of all the latest news and updates!

As a matter of fact I do, and it's one that QA's already been out and photographed for us - though it's certainly not one I expected to get a request for! Got quite a bit on but will try and get it up onto the site asap - give us a PM if it's not up in time and I can send you the details (I don't imagine it will be out of your way anyway) Always great to hear when the Locations section actually comes in useful for someone.
