Big update for one of our old reference features today - "You Say Goodbye..." which chronicles the departures of all the regular cast members from the Pilot to the present day! It can be found by clicking here!

I have no trouble saying I loathed Bianca when she first arrived, but after watching the final few weeks of the season, I have been impressed at how Lisa Gormley's portrayal of her has won me over. You really got the sense of a woman torn, and I could really empathise with the emotional journey she went through, even though it's not something I've experienced myself. It's just a shame they insist on putting her with men without any trace of fire or personality - shes deserves better, though I'm convinced she's going to get it...!!

I think Dex is definitely one of the best things to come out of 2010. The Marilyn storyline was a little unusual, but you'd be surprised how many guys have the older women complex (myself, thankfully, not included! ) and it definitely established the type of personality Dex had, and where his character was coming from in the world. He's the sort of character that I watch and I genuinely want good things for - I hope in 2011 he finds some sort of place within the world though not to the extent of becoming 'generic teen'. I hope the writers embrace the advice that Marilyn give him - it's his quirks that make him special. -
Some more extended summaries have been added, covering 5124-5130.

I have directed you towards the Picspam in the Multimedia area - clearly nobody had looked at it properly, or you'd realise it isn't a million miles away from what you want to do. Now please, can we put this to bed?

Please see this part of my post, I have tried to offer up a compromise: We didn't stop making departure features for fear of bias, we stopped because we simply didn't have time. Our decision to not carry out a Tachel feature is not based on fear of being accused of bias, its purely because we don't have the time to do them anymore. The whole "bias" thing came up simply because we said that if we were to do one, then we'd get accused of it. I can understand your frustration, I honestly can, but we've explained our reasons, which I think are perfectly justifiable. There doesn't seem to be any way forward in this matter - we've stated our position and you've stated yours, so I think this'll be my last word on the matter, or we'll end up going round and round in circles!
-
Nor do I - there certainly hasn't been a backlash for the last few characters that have left, so I'm unsure as to why it's suddenly happening now, given that the lie of the land has been pretty clear for a while. As for creating websites, might I suggest www.webs.com - it's a site that essentially does all the formatting for you, you just have to upload pictures and copy in text, couldn't be simpler! In regards to how the show has treated the characters - well, that isn't really our fault. We are in no way affiliated with Seven, and our decisions are made entirely independently of what Seven might be up to. The only other thing I could suggest is checking out the "Picspam" that was put together for Geoff and Aden, which is in the Multimedia Section I think. You'd be welcome to post up something like that in there I think, so long as it follows a similar template.

To clarify, our decisions are not based on comments from any individuals, so please don't think that we're preventing you from doing anything because of anybody else. Infact, we are not preventing you from doing anything at all. I wholeheartedly agree with you that the CAD section is not the place for any kind of 'feature' - either in the dicussion thread, or as a seperate thread. The reason for this being that we overhauled it a while back was so that it was generally a much neater board, and there weren't multiple threads on each character/pairing. If we allowed a thread of the nature you describe for that purpose, we would soon have to have a similar thread for other characters and pairings, and the board would no doubt get out of hand again. As for putting it on the main site, if we accepted it from you guys, we would have to accept submissions from everybody - and that simply isn't possible, as we like to maintain a certain standard on the site. I am not suggesting for a minute that you'll produce something sub-standard, but we (the staff) could find ourselves in a situation where we're receiving utter dross and have the awkward task of turning people away. I would suggest the best way forward for you guys would be to take advantage of the multitude of free website creating sites out there. That way you could have complete control over your content, as well as creating the type of tribute you desire. You'd be more than welcome to link to the site in your signatures and on the board (in the appropriate threads) and it would mean you would also have a lot more freedom over what you include. Incidentally, if you want a place on BTTB that links together the entrie history of the characters and the couple, then our character profiles provide a good reference point for these. I cannot promise that they're fully up to date at present, but we tend to update those on a six monthly basis.

I would point you in the direction of Ryan's post at the top of this page. Ollie got a departure feature because there was one staff member driving the whole thing, and ultimately producing the majority of the material for it - had that not been the case, he probably wouldn't have gotten one either. The truth of the matter is that nobody seems that bothered about them, until it's their favourite character leaving and suddenly find it terrible that we don't do it - we haven't been doing them for a while now, so I'm not really sure why it comes as such a shock.
-
I'm not saying they haven't happened, there is definitely a bond there - I just find myself not as invested in it as the other bonds she's formed in the house.
-
I quite like that about him - far more realistic than the "Super doctor" status that both Rachel and Flynn (though Flynn moreso) seemed to acquire. Him not being terribly good at it also gives them a chance to use other characters as advisors.
-
I agree with you in terms of her role in Summer Bay House, her relationships with everyone there are really nice to watch. Strangely enough though, I think the most underdeveloped of those is her relationship with Miles, which I find weird given that he is supposed to have the "patriarch" role in the house. I'm fairly certain she didn't have a lot to do with him before she moved in, so it would've been nice to see some sort of bond developed - though having said that, I think the moment has passed for that to happen.
-
I do understand what you're saying here, but it was more than one five minute conversation - Gina and Mink had several scenes in which Gina tried to get through to her. On all occasions she failed, so I think the change in Mink was more down to herself letting somebody in as opposed necesarily to what Gina was actually saying. Gina wasn't saying anything that Mink probably hadn't heard before, but it was Mink choice to finally allow herself to listen, rather than any super-mum words from Gina.

The New Dexter is a vast improvement over the old - not the fault of the actors involved I hasten to add, but the Old Dexter had barely any personality at all. I do worry they they are in danger of over-doing some of the "humour" of the New Dexter though - it works in places, but think he needs to show another side to himself beyond relentless quirkiness. -
For discussion of new regular April Scott.

I don't think she has... That is not to say I know any more than anybody else, as I'm completely in the dark, but I'm sure she hasn't stated that her cancer has returned. Infact I distinctly remember one scene in which she told Rachel that her scans were "all clear". And when Alf asked her if it was back, all said was "I prefer not to use big words like cancer". I think there's much more to this than meets the eye.

For the record, we've been monitering you for a while now. An unofficial warning isn't over the top, infact it's quite "under-the-top" - we had considered putting you straight on moderator preview. We don't step into these situations for the fun of it, we only do it if it's absolutely necesary. If a definition is needed: Picking a hole in someone's opinion means pointing out where you see a flaw, and substantiating what you're saying with fact. Attacking is this - - I'm sure this comment from you wasn't intended to rile anybody was it? Any further correspondance you wish you have, please do so via PM, as this thread is for discussion of Charlie and Angelo.
-
No, it is not your right to attack - you are more than welcome to disagree, and pick holes in somebody's opinion, but we will not tolerate attacking opinions on this board. Attacking an opinion is pretty much the same as attacking the person given it, because the fact it's an opinion inextricably links it with the person giving it. Unfortunatly, a lot of members seems to think that using an aggressive tone can be concealed behind the "but it's a discussion board!" excuse, but that isn't the case. We've noticed an increasing amount of aggression in your posts, which is something we do not tolerate on these boards. We have placed other members on moderator preview for similar behaviour, so you may like to view this as something as an unofficial warning. And, because I can second guess exactly what your response will be - that isn't a means of us censoring your opinion, it's a way of ensuring that your tone stays at a level which maintains the inclusive and civil atmosphere we like to cultivate on this board.

This emoticon: - can come across as a little hostile when directly addressing another member - pleas be aware of how you're using it. Also just to remind everyone that this thread is for Aden and Nicole's onscreen relationship - whilst there is bound to be some crossover dicussion of just Aden, just Nicole, and probably of Liam too, please make sure that the thread doesn't stray too far from topic. Thank you!

I think it's very natural for a person to be different around different people - in Romeo's case, wise cracking surfer on first meeting the ladies, and Jai, romantic with the girl he likes, and a more mature person around adults and younger kids. I also don't think it's unbelieveable that these different sides have taken time to be released either; up until Kirsty left Miles, no-one has needed him to be a friend like that, and up until VJ was bullied no-one has needed him to be the older brother figure. I find it much more realistic that we're learning about him slowly rather than being given a one dimensional character that doesn't stray from those boundaries the entire time they're on the show. As for his family background, we know barely anything about it so I for one will be reserving judgement. I honestly don't know how the writers manage sometimes - it seems everytime they do a romance story people moan, everytime they do a family background story, people moan, and everytime they tackle an issue, people moan. Home and Away has always been about bringing in kids from difficult backgrounds, exploring that backgroud and helping them deal with it, and then letting them leave again on a high - less so in recent years with the increased death rate, but they have always mended the problems that a character brings with them, and I don't see why Romeo should be any different. As for the relationship with Annie, I think my biggest problem isn't the gap in ages between Charlotte and Luke, and the gap between their characters maturity - romeo, for all his bravado, is pretty mature, whereas Annie is a little more naive - but again, I'll reserve judgement on that until the relationship begins properly, so as to see how it develops. Also, I don't think it's ever been implied that Romeo is an official foster kid at SBH - he's been fostered in the past, but there's never been any talk of Miles having 'officially' taken him in - so for all intents and purposes he is a lodger. And I don't find it bizarre that he speaks to adults as equals - I just think he has a lot of respect for them, Miles and Alf in particular, and I see no reason why they should talk down to him, or treat him like a kid just because he's 17 - there is no correlation between age and maturity. different characters do different things for different people though - that's one of the things that makes Home and Away so interesting really, everyone seems to see things from completely different viewpoints, but there's something for everyone!

Perhaps they have very deep feelings for another, but as two young individuals, one who's emotions are affected by the loss of his wife, and the other who's not really sussed out what she's looking for in a partner yet, perhaps their just mistaking those deep feelings? The way that it's being built up is perhaps towards a relationship because that is where Aden and Nicole think it's going, whereas in reality, they are coming to terms with the bond they share. Either way, I sincerely hope the writers don't get chastised if they 'go back' on this relationship - bear in mind how far ahead the show is written, nothing that's said in this thread will make any difference to the outcome of the story. For people to say "I don't want this relationship" and then turn round and say "I can't believe the writers didn't stick to their guns" would be extremely fickle. I think you misinterpreted what I meant by provoking - it isn't a writers job to always provoke satisfaction in an audience. If they always gave the viewers what they wanted it was be an extremely dull show, which is why I used the Torchwood example - they killed off a character which provoked some loyal fans to create a memorial outside the BBC Wales TV studios. Not everyone liked it but you could guarantee it got people talking, and it got people reacting to what they'd seen. And in a show like Home and Away, it is impossible to please everybody all of the time. As I said in my original post - what Aden and Belle fans are feeling now is nothing new - Angel moved on in a matter of months, Martha moved on after 5 months, Kirsty moved on before she'd even divorced Kane. It's what happens. I think with Aden and Nicole it's perhaps less unexpected than the others, as there has always been the potential for a relationship right from the word go. Imagine if Aden had moved on after three months with a complete stranger who was brand new to the show, and then left to live a brand new life with him in another country weeks later - just like Angel did. At least Aden and Nicole have always had that spark, they have history, and he's moving on with someone he has actually always cared about. I think you're taking this all far too personally - the writers are not employed to cater to any on individual, or indeed any one group of fans - they are employed to tell stories which provoke reactions, good or bad, and this thread has clearly proven that they are suceeding at their jobs.

When you look at any of the "golden couples" throughout the history of the show (which, to my mind are Shane and Angel, Kirsty and Kane, Jack and Martha and Aden and Belle - that's not I thought they were all golden, but it's definitely how a lot of fans saw them) none of them have actually had a happy ending. Shane died, Kane and Kirsty split, Jack died and Belle died - it's just how these things work dramatically I think. A lot of people have mentioned Ric and Mailtda having a happy ending, but I think a lot more couple have had a happy ending when you look back over the history of the show - but the fact we probably don't remember them as much speaks volumes. I would imagine from a writing perspective, the 'biggest' couples deserve the biggest drama's - you've only to look at what happened during Angel and Shane's short marriage to realise that this has been the way for years! I've been on this board for nearly six years now (that makes me feel old!!) and I've seen the demise of KK, JM and Adelle....and without fail, each and every time people have been saying "but the writers don't care about the fans, they should've had their happy ending, it isn't fair that they didn't" - so really what I'm trying to say is that what's going on in this thread isn't anything new, and it isn't anything personal. The job of a writer is to provoke a reaction from the audience, to get them talking about the show - which is not necesarily the same thing as making the audience happy. Anyone who is a big Torchwood fan will know what I mean! Regarding Aden and Nicole, I'm a little behind with my viewing so I haven't seen a lot of their 'relationship' - from what I gather they've kissed once, which in Home And Away land does not necesarily mean a long term relationship!! I did generally prefer the brother/sister set-up, but I'm not going to chastise anyone for putting them together romantically, it seems logical. So I guess I'm a little indifferent, but based on this thread I'd say the writers are definitely doing their job - people have definitely been provoked.
-
This thread is starting to get very repetitive in certain people's opinions - some people love them, some people hate them, but if you're not actually adding anything new to the discussion and are just repeating the same tired old opinions then that's spamming which is against the rules of the board. So please think before you post so that we don't have to step in!

I'm not huge on US TV shows, but this is hands down one of the best things they've produced in years. I've seen all 13 eps that have aired in the US and it just gets better and better...and it's definitely the sort of show you watch unspoiled!! I think one of the great things about it is, unlike so many other TV shows, it doesn't take itself too seriously, it knows exactly what it is and embraces that to the maximum - long live New Directions!
