  9. Finally got around to watching Twilight last night - loved it so much more than I was expecting to (and now find myself really wanting New Moon to come out.... )
  10. From what I've seen so far, I'm very pleasantly surprised. I must admitted I was sceptical given the "Idol" stigma, and I did wonder if they'd hired him for the right reasons....but I've been very impressed with his ating thusfar. I also think a 'rockstar' will be an extremely character to explore, he'll have had an awful lot of life experiences that the other characters on the show wouldn't have done I imagine, and so from that perspective I can see him becoming a very unique and interesting character. I would like to think they won't go don't the "Liam and Belle" route, not because I have any silly allegiances to 'Adelle' but just because it would seem so very obvious - it would be good if and Belle could continue as two characters who lean on each other because of their shared experience, and not let that get interfered by any romance - unfortunatly, I doubt that's how it'll turn out.
  11. First episode I've seen in a very long time, though I've been following it through various sources - I have to say I was slightly underwhelmed. Eastenders is infinitely better than it was several years ago, but they still haven't got the hang of doing these huge moments without turning their female cast members into wailing banshee's. Obviously I understand the heightened emotion of it all, but I just didn't buy that Danielle was reduced to absolute hysteria to get her message across. Sam Janus was extremely effective but it would've been nice if I could've heard all her lines. I always used to love Eastenders for it's grit and intensity but I've just watched felt like pure melodrama - certainly no "You ain't my muvva!" - "Yes I ahhhhmmm!"
  12. Loved Irene in Monday's Australian episode!
  13. ^ Ahh I see what you mean now Jody, and I can understand where you're coming from. That's a good point actually - not since Scott and Kane have we had anyone working on the Blaxland (I think?), that would be an excellent way of settling her into the community and would fulfil what is obviously a lifelong dream of the character - though that might be too much of a happy ending considering all the bad stuff they're piling onto her at the moment!
  14. A few years ago, I fell out of love with Irene - I just didn't really see where her place in the show was, there was a time when it just felt she was the owner of a house to put teenagers in which, let's face it, any adult character could do. However, over the past couple of years I've grown to like her again, and this storyline with Lou has got me very interested in the character once again, something which I'm very glad about. The scene in which she told Lou about her alcoholism was brilliantly played by Lynne, and her portrayal of Irene during their courtship has been excellent. I really hope this is the start of a long and interesting story arc because Lynne certain deserves it after years of handing out coffees and beds as needed, with little else going on for Irene.
  15. I think that was probably more of a reaction to what he's experienced himself - although I've never been in such a position, I would imagine that had you been a victim of abuse it would be the case that your impulse to help other victims would be stronger, despite not necesarily knowing them all that well. As for Joey, it took me a little bit of time to warm up to her. I initially just couldn't comprehend that the life long dream of an year old girl was to owna fleet of prawn trawlers. But she's one of those characters that's made an impression on me slowly, and then grabbed me without realising how much affection I had developed. The scene that really did it for me was - Kate Bell played that fantastically, really conveying the emotional impact of what was happening on top of everything else, whilst also keeping the strength that Joey has displayed - she got just the right balance. Her interactions with Leah and VJ have further consolidated my liking of her and I hope she sticks around for the forseeable future, I'm very interested to see how she develops as a character.
  16. From what I've seen of her so far, I really do like her as a character - the way she acts around the topic of Brendan indicates to me that we're in for some compelling viewing further down the track and the relationships between the Austin family are explored, they've all been set up brilliantly as far as I'm concerned. I italicise 'character' purely because I'm not sure on what to make of her as a person, what with the way she responds to her sons completely differently (even the treatment between Xavier and Hugo is vastly different). But the sad fact is, people like this do exist in the world, and I applaud Home and Away for introducing a middle aged fairly 'normal' mother who is deeply flawed, and knows it - she's certainly quite far removed from the likes of Pippa, Shelley and Beth.
  17. Words can express how much I utterly loathed Charlie when she first arrived. But then I came to realise that she's one of the only characters that a complete personality transplant worked for. One minute she was all fired up, mouthing off at anyone who would listen and then suddenly she was just OK about everything - at the time I thought it was inconsistent writing, but it was one of the few times where I was willing to overlook it. However, as time's moved on, I've grown to realise that actually, she didn't have a complete personality transplant. My initial problem was the way that the writers forced her upon us, in this worked up state of attack which has since recurred. What made it so unbearable during her first couple of weeks is that we had absolutely no idea where it came from - and the snippets we did have, I didn't feel any sort of emotion towards (though this could be attributed to Esther Anderson, who has come on leaps and bounds as an actress since those first couple of weeks in my opinon). The thing I love about Charlie is that when she gets herself into one of her frenzies (and I use the term endearingly as I do genuinely like the character) we know it's coming, but not only that - she knows its coming too, but she can't help herself. To me this is her biggest flaw, and it's often the flaws of a character that make them more interesting for me. I can follow the psychological journey her mind takes, and I'm fascinated by it's inevitability. What consolidated my love for Charlie was one line at the end of last year (which unfortunatly I can't remember exactly, but you get the jist): "It's not bravery when you don't care what happens to you". For that was a very powerful moment for the character, exposing a raw fragility that we hadn't seen before, at least not to those depths. I very much look forward to seeing where she progresses next from having this sort of attitude and how she copes with her feelings for Roman and Angelo - one thing I'm certain of though is that it'll be very much Charlie's own way of coping. Another consistently written character who ticks all the right boxes for me.
  18. I really liked Geoff and Melody when they got together. They were very unlike any couple the show had explored in it's recent history, with a sense of naeivity and innocence that made them endearing. And I really felt like Lincoln and Celeste had the right sort of chemistry to pull off that relationship to. But, having said that, I really don't think they should reunite. The thing that made them so special in the first place has gone completely - their innocence. And by that I don't just mean sexual innocence in the case of Geoff but all general "life" innocence in the case of Melody. They've both moved on from who they used to be and to me they're both in places where they just wouldn't work well together at all - the relationship dynamic would just be so far removed from what it was and it just feels like they'd be too much baggage. I'm far happier remembering them as the couple they used to be than contemplating any feasible future for them - for me it just wouldn't work like it did before.
  19. She's always had quite a....questionnable....attitude to relationships though, which is again a sign of consistent writing - one of the first things she did when she arrived in the bay was to throw herself at Ric, despite knowing full well that he was with Cassie. She's also cheated on Lucas too, it hasn't all started with Aden and Angelo. I'd be very interesting in exploring her background a little more. Although we found out the identity of her mother, I still think more could be explored on how the first 16 years of her life (which were surrounded by strict Christian values if I remember correctly) impacts on the person she is today. It's especially strange they haven't picked up on this with the introduction of Annie and Geoff into the Beach House.
  20. Couldn't agree more with you there....love her or hate her, there's no denying she's consistent, and I think she's one of the few characters that made it through the 2006/07 period without undergoing some sort of huge personality change just for the sake of a storyline. Although her relationship with Aden ultimately seeped its way into the development storyline I think it was very much a story which established Belle as an individual, showing what she believes to be right and wrong, and the way the line blurs when one or the other is compromised - which was much needed in my opinion, it gave her something other than Aden as a focus and the danger of coupling two characters together is that they can lose all focus of other things going on around them and become too dependant on each other. What's really keeping me hooked on Belle at the moment though is the fallout from her attack and the way in which she's coping with it (or isn't as the case may be)....not to my recollection have we seen such a drawn out post-traumatic-stress type disorder played out in the show and its nice to see it being handled with care and not resolving itself overnight (as was the case with Ric earlier in the year...) - I hope they address the fact that it surely can't just be the development storyline thats causing it, and address other areas in her life which are factors into her downward spiral.
  21. I know there's lots of "Bareen" fans out there so I thought I'd make a thread for everyone to discuss their positives/negatives and anything else you may wish to discuss!
  22. You're welcome to post it here, this certainly doesn't fall under the catagory of SPAM. Any further questions or confusions about where to post thingsshould be directed to the "Are You Unsure...?" thread.
  23. Thought it might be good to get a Fitzy discussion thread going, given some some of the more unexpected things they've done with her lately... Thoughts on Fitzy?
  24. Thank you for your feedback, it's always good to hear members opinions on the way the board is operating! I'd just like to point out that you won't get into trouble for posting in the appreciation section - the worst that will happen is that your post will not be approved. I know it must be quite strange suddenly having both threads in one but please feel free to post any opinion you have, whether positive or negative on the subject in question. The new system is certainly not intended to censor anyone's opinion, it is primarily to weed out the SPAM and create a more pleasant atmosphere - so please don't feel intimidated by it, I think it's just a case of adjusting But as I say, we've taken your comments on board and when the system is reviewed, they'll be considered.
  25. There's an Aden/Belle discussion thread in the Discussion board, as well as in the spoiler section for any of their upcoming storylines and the Australian discussion thread is there for any discussion you might wish to have about what's going on in the episode that may not fall into these catagories, which should more than cater to all your "Adelle" needs. The system was changed as a direct result of a growing number of 'SPAM' comments in these threads and whilst we appreciate that some members enjoy this kind of discussion it is not something that we actively seek to encourage. As Eli has pointed out though, the system we have put in place will be reviewed after a short period to see if it's acheiving what we had intended so there is a small chance that the "chit chat" that you speak of will find a place on the board - but, as of the current moment, nothing is certain.
