  1. J. F. K. 100% worth the wait, and it joins my list of 3+ hour films that I was never bored by for more than a minute.
  2. The Naked Gun - not as good as Flying High, but hilarious all the same. I loved the scene with Drebin and the informant bribing each other.
  3. Blood Diamond - Perfect Daredevil - As good as I remembered it, but I can see why it wasn't as successful as Spider-Man. I really wish they'd made a sequel, though.
  4. Tropic Thunder - not as good as Galaxy Quest, but I've never laughed harder at something so tasteless. Also, Flying High 2: The Sequel. Not as funny as the original, but it was basically recycled from that, so if it had been made first...
  5. Iron Man: Best. Marvel Comics Adaptation. Ever
  6. Borat: Cultural Learnings of America for Make Benefit Glorious Nation of Kazakhstan. I now understand the meaning of the expression "Refuge in Audacity."
  7. Lantana - Solid performances, and one of the best Australian films I've seen. but not quite as good as Magnolia or Look Both Ways.
  8. Bender's Game: Hilarious from beginning to end, although it'll probably work better in a four part format. I can't wait for the next one. Favourite line: "I was an owl exterminator.
  9. Has anyone seen that new Wallace and Gromit movie that was on ABC in on Wednesday night? it was so not Wallace and Gromit. I mean, it was well-made, it was tense and exciting, it was really funny, but it could not have been less appropriate for kids. I mean, it has This from the guy who gave us a penguin jewel thief, a cyborg canine sheep-rustler, and an automatic cooker with a passion for skiing.
  10. Crash. An absolute masterpiece, which totally deserved Best Picture over Brokeback Mountain. Not sure though whether to rate it higher or lower than Magnolia, though. Better performances, yes, but no , so... And damn it, why can't I find Short Cuts anywhere?
  11. Flying High - one of the funniest movies I've seen in ages. Highlights were "Surely you can't be serious." "I am serious. And don't call me Shirley." and the bit where Elaine give Otto a blow job.
  12. Saw Garfield 2 yesterday. Not brilliant, but occasionally funny, and a pleasant distraction.
  13. Ratatouille. Very good, but not compared to Wall-E or a few of the other Pixar movies.
  14. I loved Die Another Day, but I agree that it would have to come last of those four, I guess because it doesn't have as much to offer in the way of deep storytelling. I love Golden-Eye because the villain used to be Bond's friend, so there's that sense of betrayal on both sides. I love Tomorrow Never Dies because the villain is essentially Rupert Murdoch although the writers based him more on William Randolph Hearst. I love The World is Not Enough because Electra is just so much deeper, psychologically speaking, than any previous villain. To Die Another Day's credit, it did step out from the formula by having Bond out for revenge and working outside of MI6 control. But that was done better by both Timothy Dalton and now Daniel Craig. I guess it mainly reached my top 10 on the basis of Jinx Johnson (one of the few Bond girls who can be said to be Bond's equal), the death of Graves ("Prepare to face destiny!" "Prepare to face gravity!") and John Cleese being promoted to Q ("Wish I could make you vanish."). For the record my current list is: 1: Golden-Eye 2: Licence to Kill 3: Casino Royale 4: Golden-Eye 5: The Spy Who Loved Me 6: The World is Not Enough 7: Tomorrow Never Dies 8: Die Another Day 9: For Your Eyes Only 10: A View to a Kill Not sure where to put Quantum of Solace yet, I'm gonna decide once I've seen it on DVD and managed to work out what was going on.
  15. Thunderbirds. Acting was OK, and it was visually impressive, but I think I would have liked to see more of the other four Tracys. Maybe I should check out the TV show. Also, Romulus My Father. Good performances, but I think the accents were inconcsistent, and it didn't do the book justice.
  16. Exams have finished and I've moved out of my unit. Time to get a job for the next three months...
  17. Agreed, actually, but I like Daniel Craig because he's the closest anyone has coming to playing Bond as he was written by Ian Fleming. Up until now, it was Timothy Dalton. Nevertheless all of Pierce Brosnan's movies are in my top 10, with GoldenEye at number 4, and the other 3 fighting over number 6.
  18. Quantum of Solace - Almost everything I loved about Casino Royale, but a lot harder to follow. But Daniel Craig was awesome, possibly even better than Timothy Dalton. Look forward to the DVD.
  19. The Game: absolutely flawless - until about 10 minutes after it's over, when fridge logic sets in. But Davd Fincher is now my absolute favourite director.
  20. Striking Distance: shocking at the end, but again, Willis was not McClane and I shouldn't have got my expectations up. Also Serpico. Nothing wrong with it, except for my general problem with 70s crime movies. Pacino wasn't at his best either (that would be The Insider).
  21. 16 Blocks. Disappointing, mainly because I was expecting more of a John McClane character, but Bruce Willis was pretty good. Don't get me started on Mos Def though.
  22. The Lost World: Jurassic Park. Nowhere near as good as the first one, and possibly one of Spielberg's worst. A genuine wall-banger
  23. ^^ I don't like Fight Club much, but I love David Fincher in general. Over the weekend I watched: X-Men The Last Stand Jurassic Park Die Hard With a Vengeance Lethal Weapon Wallace and Gromit: THe Curse of the Were-Rabbit About 16 episodes of Get Smart
  24. Zodiac: Better than Fight Club, on a par with the rest of Fincher's movies. The Game is now on my list. (Not that game. Sorry!)
  25. Superman: The Movie. I'm not sure whether better or worse than Superman Returns. On the one hand, in Superman Returns I believed a man could fly. On the other hand, I didn't believe that a man could return to his old workplace on the same day as his superhero doppelganger returns to Earth and that no one would suspect anything. Christopher Reeve managed to make it a bit more plausible that he was two different people, even in that one scene where Clark had his glasses off. I can't wait to see Superman II: The Richard Donner cut, even though I already know it isn't perfect.
