More work!! This is apart of my English work which i need help with.

Its on To Kill A Mockingbird and here is the question

Q) In what ways does the writer use Tom Robinson’s case to highlight the theme of prejudice within the novel?

Any help will be much appreciated, thank-you in advance. :-)

Have you got the York Notes for it? I had them at GCSE and they were really helpful, just for giving broad ideas about all the key themes. They are fine to use in cousework as long as you don't just copy out of them and you reference them in your bibliography. You can get them from any bookshop, probably in with the revision guides.

I would be more help but all my GCSE stuff and my copy of the book are at home, and I'm at uni. Sorry!

Does anyone here speak Italian?

XxX

Just write to Colleen...Prego...prego...:P

What does prego mean btw?

'Prego' - it's a bit of a random word - like if you say thanks to someone, they'll say 'prego' - it kinda means 'no problems', 'you're welcome'. There's probably another definition but that's what I take it to mean LOL.

Could someone help me with this? In the parantheses, I have included that I think those words/phrases are. I am sure about the transition devices, but I need help checking that the non-finite adverbial clause, the cleft sentence, the fronting and the inversion is correct (that they are what I have labeled them as).

The future of letter writing

The history of letter writing is a long one, and letters have been known to exist in ancient Egypt and Sumer, as well as Rome, Greece and China. Furthermore (transition device), they have been an important factor for our cultural heritage, as letters make up several of the books in the Christian Bible. (source: wikipedia. Insert later)

Although (transition device) letters have been the primary tools for communication over longer distances for many years, the custom has faded the last decade. It was with the introduction of the Internet as an everyday accessory in the late 1990’s that e-mail started to out conquer the thousands of years old inheritance (cleft sentence).

However (transition device), letters are still used in the business world. E-mail might have taken over for internal memos, but letters are still the reigning when it comes to communication with other firms and continues to be the main way of sending job applications. On the other hand (transition device), many companies have the recent years added to their advertisement that applications should arrive through electronic channels, and some even present it as the only way to send in your application. Letters are simply not welcome.

So, why are we still writing letters? ? Many would argue that letters are more personal, more elaborate, and more time consuming than e-mail (parallel structure). It doesn’t seem right to print out e-mails for safekeeping, but hanging on to elaborate and friendly letters do. Alternating (inversion) between ‘hip’ and ‘old fashioned’, sending letters and post cards are again beginning to manifest itself as a phenomenon in several youth cultures. I, myself, keep in touch with friends from Germany, England the United States of America through letters as well as the Internet. Starting as a game where “ugly post cards” were sent to one another (non-finite adverbial clause), it transformed into another instrument for communication, other than on our personal blogs. The letters from today’s present (fronting) will be the history of tomorrow; a medium through which new generations can continue to learn about the past. With the current expansion speed of the Internet, it might not be the only, and best, source for historians in the future, but an important resource nonetheless.

LOL! Oh, please! Why did I have to pick such a random language for GCSE - that no one else appears to speak! I would use an online translator to help me, but I don't really trust anything that I can't see where it keeps it's brain.....I've had some *interesting* results with those online things before!

hey, Jess can you teach me some, im going to Italy this summer hopefully!

Oh wow! I <3 Italy! *is now feeling incredibly jealous* It rocks! Where abouts are you going? My favourite place is Milan......shopping is fab!

Ok, this is my latest draft...

Part A:

Although most of us would find the thought of eating insects abhorrent, Jeremy MacClancy argues that insects can be an important food source. He mentions that some insects are rich in protein, fat, and calories. Compared to what we might call “normal food”, insects are much more nutritious. They are very easy to breed and catch (qtd. in MacClancy 39).
