princess_in_pink Posted January 30, 2007 Report Share Posted January 30, 2007 If I remember correctly, fundamentalism is basically where every aspect of the Bible is taken literally. So, for example, fundamentalists believe that the world was created in seven days, and that there were two people called Adam and Eve who were the first people to inhabit the earth. Another example would be Noah's Ark. Some people believe that it's just a myth to illustrate what happens when we offend God; fundamentalists believe that a flood covered the earth and destroyed all living creatures. So, yeah, you get the picture. Regarding its advantages and disadvantages. There are people who think that there are no advantages or truth in it, that the Bible is merely a moral myth. However, there is proof to back up some of the claims in the Bible. It has been historically proven that a man called Jesus lived in the town of Nazereth and was a very well-respected man. There have also been remains of what scholars claim to be Noah's Ark found on the mountain that it is reported to have landed on in the Bible when the flood waters subsided. Fundamentalism is a hard one because some people would argue that if you don't believe in Noah's Ark or the Creation story in Genesis, then why believe that God sent His "only begotten Son, that we may not perish, but have eternal life" (John 3:16). And if we don't believe that, then there really is no point to the Christian faith. On the other hand, it is very hard to believe that an omniscient and omnipotent being created the Universe, when there is so much scientific "evidence" to "prove" otherwise. I wish my R.S. AS was like that...we just do ethic after ethic after ethic and their respective strengths and weaknesses. And how religion and morality fit together. This is what I have at present: The cello and the double bass have a smooth mellow tone. The double bass sounds very low and sounds slightly forced and somber.
