AGH! I have a Maths questions, I need help! :(

It's on the subject of Arithmetics.

1. x:y:z = 2:4:5. If z=35, find x and y.

2. The scale on a map is 1:25000. The length of a wall on the map is 3.2mm. Find the actual length in metres.

Any help would be much appreciated! :)

Okay....

So, 1) is ratio. z = 35 and is in five parts. So, therefore, each part is 35/5 = 7.

So to find x and y, you just multiply each of their respective ratios (2 and 4) by 5.

Does that make sense to anyone but me? I'm rubbish at explaining things...

I'm no good with map scales, sorry!

Map question is just basically 3.2mm times 25000. But remember these measurements are in millimetres. Because the basis is that every 1mm on the map is equal to 25000mm in real life. So 3.2mm would equal to 25000 x 3.2mm in real life.

Hope that helps. I just had a Maths test today, which may I mention was very stressful and barely anyone in the class finished it in time!! -sigh- Ramble over...

^^ :o Lol I did my SSL on that book about a month ago!!

What's your line of argument on it? If it helps I can send on my essay via PM or email for inspiration :P Mine has been graded so it's no use to me anymore

That's very nice of you, but I don't need it. Thanks anyway! I handed the essay up today, hopefully she will like it.
