:P

Alright - Attempt numero due and I'm not sure how to say it's absolutly sh!t in Italian, but I'll ask Kat when I'm speaking to her :P

I had to add a little contrast to it, because the Photo made it look a little off, but otherwise...

Meh. i'll try again tomorrow. Birds are not my strong point.

I'm not going to pretend I'm an expert or anything, but I was sooo tempted to give this a try when I saw your assignment, Jayde, and it gave me some ideas.

Firstly, I think I'd make more branches, because now it's mostly bird if you know what I mean? Unless the assignment says otherwise you can probably have more branches than just the one the bird is sitting on. That might make the drawing more interesting and create more "life".

I just used these two pictures

simply to see how a raven and branches might look, and then I started drawing the raven before I kind of built all the branches around it.

(sorry, it's just a quick sketch to illustrate what I mean, I didn't even finish it as you can see :P )

I recomment making your lines a little softer as well, kind of like what Cal said about loosening your wrist. Make a lot of small, soft lines instead of longer, harder lines to make it look more natural.

Lastly I have an idea that I think might work. I don't know what your assignment says about colours and stuff, but I think this might work if you just use black and possibly one background colour.

The raven is pretty dark, and so are the branches, so maybe make the branches AND the raven all black (possibly bring out the eye of the raven if you want to make it more creepy) and then color all the background in one colour like dark (not too dark though) blue. Or if you're comfortable with blending colours maybe a sunset just by using the actual colours if that makes sense.

I hope that helpe, or at least makes sense :)

Aw, I missed all the bird drawing :(. I should check this thread more often...

Not that you need it now, but my advice would be to draw the branch first, get that right, then worry about the bird. A branch is basically two parallel lines with a few nobbly bits to give it character. Then you outline where you want the bird to be, I usually put them behind the branch cause I like to draw talons... (something birds and dragons share, you'll note) and then fill it in with the lines of the chest, and where the wings are resting against it's sides, and make it's eyes nice and beady - little black circles with a shine of white on the edges... then draw in a few feathers to give it depth, and add some lines to the feet and to the branch for texture...

Birds are hard though. If you like drawing unicorns, I'd start with a hippogriff and go from there

Ohh, I'm Irish! :D

Well, we're little green people who live on a little island with biiig pots of gold...

Sorry. I couldn't resist the leprechaun. :D

No seriously, if you want to PM me you can say what details you want to know and I'd be happy enough to help... I wouldn't believe all that associating us with little green men... It's an insult... :P
