What is correct SPAG?

This is a busy little thread at the moment.

Firstly, Cal only got a short PM from me because I knew he was aware of the rule, and in a few posts his SPAG had gone downhill a bit - so it was just a polite nudge, "Hey, you normally post in OK SPAG, so start doing it again!" or something like that. I personally thought the longer PM 'spelling out' the rule (pardon the pun) was more acceptable for newer members - if people are used to using text speak, etc on forums then they probably do need a bit of clarification as to what is acceptable and not acceptable on BTTB.

Sarah, the reason we keep a log (visible only to the moderators) of any members who have informed us they have learning difficulties, etc is so that you don't get more PMs or warnings for the same issue. I can't really think of a better way of doing that.

I do take on board your other point - if a member does have some difficulties with writing, I can see how a lengthy PM like mine can come across as quite upsetting. It genuinely wasn't meant that way - neither to you or anyone else who has received such a PM from me. I apologise to anyone who may have been distressed or disheartened by what I believed to be a friendly and helpful message. I/we need to give the PMs/warnings system some more thought.

I know Frankie has said this isn't the place to discuss or debate the rule, but I did feel it was necessary to respond to your earlier posts.

I've just discovered this - which is a genuine post on this board, however I won't reveal the member's identity:

I have trouble with my SPAG but ever since I have joined this board my SPAG is getting better.

Even though i have not been here long I am inproving in english aswell.

Thanks to everyone who put SPAG rules in, its helping me loads. :D

Just thought it worthy to note at this point.

^Mine too :D:P

LOL ROFL, etc is allowed, but what about: Drelle, Panda, JM etc, short little "nicknames", are we allowed to use them? :P

I mean if we weren't allowed abbreviations we could have sentences like this.

I was watching a television programme on the British Broadcasting Corporation which said that the Automobile Association will be taking people to Alcoholics Anonymous meetings in Bayerische Motoren Werke's and those who don't give up drinking will have to return in Sociedad Española de Automóviles de Turismo. This has been good for their public relations has had been proved above.

Common sense should surely prevail!

Mind you, I wondered who or what on earth 'Panda' was on browsing the forum just now. Only when reading the thread did the answer become obvious.
