QUIET ACHIEVER Posted September 16, 2008 Report Share Posted September 16, 2008 There has been so much hatred towards Rachel due to the recent Australian paced storylines, more toxicity seeping through than on the proposed development site near the caravan park. So I was thinking that we need to get back to basics, after all this is an Appreciation thread. I'd like people to share their thougths on Rachel, for instance: What do you like about her? Do you have a favourite episode(s) or storyline(s) that she appears in? What type of scenes do you like Rachel in (action, hospital, friendship, hostage, etc)? Who do you like Rachel to be acting alongside with? Which character(s) would you like to see Rachel have more scenes with? Please feel free to add anything positive and pleasant about Rachel or you may even want to say something about Amy... feel free to express your positive opinions. charmed60 Posted September 17, 2008 Report Share Posted September 17, 2008 To be honest, I don't think Rachel's anywhere near as bad as people are making her out to be,I think she was just originally set up as a 'perfect' character and now if she has any human reaction that could be deemed as "imperfect" ie her reaction to Aden, people hate her for it. I'm all up for admitting that she can be selfish and self absorbed but all people are like that and act like that in certain situations. Her fiancee slept with someone and she was upset that the woman he cheated with got a job with the business he owns and suspects she knew that....well wouldn't everybody? I know I probably would! Also I think her being a doctor and having to act professional gets her into trouble sometimes because she's trained to deal with situations emotionally unattached and therefore can come across as being short and uncaring. Plus people think that because she's a doctor she should act professional all the time and isn't allowed to be seen as being weak. There are quite a few scenes that are my favourite, many of the ones when she thought Kim was dead really showed how amazing an actress Amy is. Also when her Mum died, I remember being really choked up. I'm not sure what episode it was but there was one when Rachel finally broke down after Kim went missing in the bush, she was holding the rosary beads and asking Leah how God could let somebody go through as much pain as she was, I was so close to crying during that scene, it really stood out to me. Others such as the Reverand Hall incident and her confusion over her feelings for Hugh showed how vunerable a character she really is yet at the same time how strong. I also like scenes showing her with friends like Hugh (before it got messy...he really brought out the best in Rachel, the fun side) as well as Leah and supporting the Summer Bay residents as a doctor like Aden (before that got messy haha) I love scenes with Rachel and Tony in, particularly when they're supporting each other like with the Sam/Jack drama, it shows how much they care about each other, they're so cute I love scenes with all the girls together like when Rachel, Martha and Sam had that girls night, I think Rachel and Martha make good friends and Rachel and Leah of course but I think they're really lacking these sort of scenes at the minute. Everybody in the cast seems to be having scenes with their respective love interests and nobody is really interacting like they used to, they need a big town party I think! It brings out the best in all of the characters. So I guess I'd like to see more scenes with Rachel and her girl friends, show off that fun side we know she has (like when she got drunk at the doctor's convention....such a funny episode!!) Those episodes involving Rachel during the uncertainty of what happened to the patients of the chopper crash, the death of Rachel's Mum and also when Rachel's Dad showed up in the Bay were her most powerful episodes during 2006. The love quadrange between her, kim, hugh and kit was my favourite storyline on home and away ever and she was also fantastic in the reverend hall storyline and when kim was lost in the bush What type of scenes do you like Rachel in (action, hospital, friendship, hostage, etc)? I love any scene where rachel is a main character instead of a supporting role...and there hasnt been many of them this year but i'd say probably action scenes where she shows alot of emotion because i think Amy does the emotional scenes the best. Who do you like Rachel to be acting alongside with? Tony, Leah and Miles Which character(s) would you like to see Rachel have more scenes with? champagne_char Posted September 22, 2008 Report Share Posted September 22, 2008 Amy Mathews is a fantastic actor, especially with the emotional scenes...If Rachel gets emotional, im emotional! I would love to see some more friendship scenes, where shes being friends with someone and having fun with people rather than just helping them with another problem...I know shes the agony aunt of the bay but it would be nice to see her let her hair down a bit more. I do feel for Dane, but the child is sick and needs help, sure Rachel might not be going about it the right way, but her heart is in the right place.
