Tasha walked along the out of town road, tears of hurt blurring her vision. Did she really come across as being shallow enough for Mac to think something like a few miserly dollars might ruin their friendship? How could she help Mac? Did she really want to anymore if that was what her SO-CALLED best friend thought of her?! Angry with herself this time, she shook her head to try and clear it. She and Robbie had talked this over late into the night. Of COURSE she wanted to help (they both did), but Mac wouldn’t be getting away home free, Tasha would let her know the hurt she’d caused; make Mac see that freezing her out had been wrong whatever the intention behind it. It was just how she was going to do it that was the problem. Still, it was a problem she wouldn’t have time to dwell on as Tony Holden had just seen her round the last corner to the Simpson Place, waved a cheery good morning and gone inside, clearly intent on telling Mac they had visitors. Like or not there was no going back now. Sighing, Tasha took a deep breath and turned through the gate.

“Well Jack, I happen to know the answer to this; my wife and I faced the same thing. You can set up a joint account and have your pay lodged in it, BUT the other person MUST be your next of kin. It protects them if…”

He didn’t need to finish the sentence and experience had taught him when to ask questions and when not to; now was not the time.

“Hi Tasha.”

“Mac.”

Martha turned, surprised at the slight edge in her friend’s voice. Before she could question however Tasha let rip:

“When were you going to tell me Mac? When you went bankrupt? Walking up the aisle?! Oh, of course you told Jack, I understand that, but he’s not your ONLY friend or at least I THOUGHT he wasn’t! Why didn’t you couldn’t you even just TELL me, never mind asking for my help?!”

Martha stood there in total shock. Tasha was normally so placid! What was she saying; were was all this sudden venom coming from?!

“Tasha, this all just happened on Sunday; I’m still getting my head around it.” Mac explained stunned

“So? You couldn’t pick up the phone and have a girlie chat?”

“I’m sorry Tasha, really; I didn’t think!” Martha implored.

“Obviously.” Tasha said coldly, rooting around in her purse, pointedly avoiding Martha’s eye.

Martha gasped as she watched Tasha open a cheque-book:

“Tasha, no! I’m not asking…”

“I know. I’m buying SHARES as a silent partner and I expect a return… No, don’t insult me any more, please. Just promise me you’ll see sense. Is $5000 enough? Good, that’s it then.”

With that Tasha thrust the cheque at Martha, turned on her heel and ran.
