claire_louise Posted September 15, 2006 Report Posted September 15, 2006 That's true, but then Jade would have had a grand total of zero major storylines.
griseknoen Posted September 16, 2006 Report Posted September 16, 2006 As much as I don't want to get involved in the same debate yet again, I think it's worth noting that people are still talking about this storyline with such interest even after all the characters involved have long gone. Whether you loved KK or hated them, they're on their way to becoming classic H&A characters. And rightly so, IMO. Well, to be fair, it`s much more what happened or did not happen between Kane and Dani that are being discussed rather than the relationship between Kane and Kirsty. Everytime someone tries to have a discussion about Kane and Kirsty it ends up being a discussion about Kane and Dani. So it would be Dani and Kane who`s on their way to become classic H&A characters then. And I really do not hope Kane and Kirsty will return. Even though I thought their early days (before Kane suddenly were forgiven, and they were all a big happy family) were quite interesting, I don`t really see them that interesting anymore (in the 2004 season with Kirsty`s illness and so on). So if they don`t get any better again soon, I wouldn`t want them to return.
alexx Posted September 16, 2006 Report Posted September 16, 2006 I wouldn’t be interested in seeing them return either. Before Kane was made permanent their relationship was ok, but I was never drawn to them. But 2004-onwards, they were extremely boring OTT and the acting was weak in parts, predominantly emotion scenes.
I love music Posted September 16, 2006 Report Posted September 16, 2006 I don't find H&A compulsive viewing nowadays. It always has been OTT but it's even more so now - seems every time I tune in someone's in hospital! - and its stories, from what I can judge when I do watch, are a series of disasters with little emotional depth. Worst of all, it seems to me that people are killed off simply for dramatic effect and, no matter how good the actual acting/storyline at the time (I didn't watch during Flynn's death, but I understand it was very well done) in the long run that's a very bad idea. How can you hope to have even a glimmer of continuity if people just die off all the time? Flynn and Josh, two of the main characters in the Kane/Kirsty story, are now dead. The only links they would have in the Bay are Irene, Tasha, Colleen and Alf. Going by H&A's record, who knows how long any of those will stay alive? The way things are at the moment I wouldn't like to see Kane and Kirsty return. The show just isn't good enough for well thought out stories like theirs any more.
alexx Posted September 16, 2006 Report Posted September 16, 2006 I should think they would easily slip back into it. It hasn’t changed much since they were in it during 2004 or 2005 as far as depth and pace goes, in fact its probably got a lot more slow paced in the last few months which is good - gives us time to get to know where we are up to with the characters. I think they would drag the show down again, I can just see the promos now, 'Kane's secret is bursting at the seems. Kirsty will find out, but how? (Insert shot of Kirsty winging – “Babe you gotta tell me. PLEASE Kane, together forever remember…’ H&A tomorrow.'...blaah boring blah. It would just be like watching Jack and Martha, although I must admit I would believe in them as a couple who love each other – I just found there storyline so boring and tedious.
katya Posted September 17, 2006 Report Posted September 17, 2006 I think if Kane and Kirsty came back I wouldn't be able to watch anymore. I don't watch Home and Away as often as I used to anyway, purely because of work/personal reasons, but to bring them back would taint the show for me. Actually, I could maybe watch if Kirsty came back on her own, but Kane I found somewhat disturbing to watch.
Tamxxx Posted September 18, 2006 Report Posted September 18, 2006 Of course I would want K/K back I loved them so much. they inspired me and were the best couple ever, much as I would like Dani back, If K/K came back together I would start watching H&A again but if Kane came back on his own I probally wouldnt tune in much, as long as he has a connection with Kirsty, I thought Dani, and Kirsty were my fav actors, I loved their storylines, I also like christie, tammin in real life and i am a big fan of them, I actually stopped watching H&A after the last sutherland left (kirsty), IMO the show has gone totally boring with the characters theres nothing special, my sister watches it when she feels like it, I havent watched it since and when H&A comes on I only glance at the TV but thats partly because of the reason I hardly watch TV nowadays anyway, I would of been a regular viewer of H&A 2-3 years back.
Loz Posted September 18, 2006 Report Posted September 18, 2006 I wasn't a fan of Kane and Kirsty, primarily because I just hated the way their situation was portrayed. I felt like for a time they were interesting, when it was accepted that Kirsty was betraying her sister and being selfish but just felt compelled to give into her feelings. That to me was complex storytelling. But then, when Kane returned, I felt the storytelling changed to make them seem like a viable couple; Dani's selfishness was focused upon, as though by making her a less likeable person it made Kirsty's relationship with Kane alright. I felt the audience were being manipulated, and that it was an easy way to get sympathy for Kane and Kirsty amongst those fans who hadn't immediately taken to them. The other thing is, I thought that towards the end of Kane and Kirsty's stint, the characters were pretty pointless. The story was drawn out and obstacles thrown into their paths, ostensibly to make us 'care' and root for them, but all it managed to do was dilute their overall impact for me. If they returned, what would be the point? I could already predict that we'd get story after story about terrible non-character-driven things befalling them and mutual misunderstandings threatening their perfect relationship, but never really destroying it. I think the only point of Kane and Kirsty was that they loved each other above all else. That kind of nips any long term soap future in the bud. If they fall out of love they become pointless, if they stay in love there's no jeopardy and therefore no reason to watch them.
ste Posted September 18, 2006 Report Posted September 18, 2006 My personal opinion that I've said a few times before and been heavily slated for, is that Kane and Kirsty would no longer be together anyway.

Can I ask why you think they wouldn't be together anymore? I don't wish to slate you, I'm just curious.
