Mez83 Posted May 18, 2006 Report Posted May 18, 2006 ^ Oooh me too! I hate those damn things! I would rather get the flu than have a flu shot!!! And forget about testing me for my blood sugar levels! I thought I was the only one!! People think I'm nuts because I'd rather get the flu than have the injection!
Elise Posted May 18, 2006 Report Posted May 18, 2006 Yeah, people think I'm crazy as well, it's more embarrasing with the nurses! I bawl my eyes out with the thought of getting one! So your not alone! Merc, What I mean by it is that people like my sister(who is a complete hypochondriac(sp?) and would believe she was sick when she wasn't to get attention) would swear it was working, when in reality it is the mind. I am not saying that I think that it is pure placebo effect on you, that's just my generalization on all of this natural medicine stuff. I just think of that and associate it with hippy. I'm sure my viewpoint would be different, however, if I tried it for myself, but I'm happy with the medication I take now.
Skykat Posted May 18, 2006 Report Posted May 18, 2006 I can't stand needles either. When I was really ill a few years ago I had to have loads of blood tests and I passed out on every single one! My Mum still has to go with me to hold my hand! My aunt is an alternative threapist so we always get free treatments from her and I can honestly say that the stuff she does really works. Also the Chinese people are the healthiest race in the world and they almost solely rely upon alternative medicine so I can't see how it can't work. I believe in it more than I do typical medicine. It scares me how often Doctors get it wrong. I did a module at Uni on Human error and we did case studies of hospital environments and it is the most likely working environment for errors to occur. The amount of people going intio hospital to be cured and coming out sicker is on the increase. I also look around at the amount of med students I know and I really would not want some of them treating me in a few years time! I do agree that the placeabo effect exists but I just think alternative medicine has its own benefits.
Elise Posted May 18, 2006 Report Posted May 18, 2006 most of those who come out of hospital sicker is not always due to human error. The hospital is one of the worst places to catch something! At the moment in Melb, some hospitals are having an outbreak of Golden Staph, and almost always when I come home from visiting my parents in hospital, I get the cold or something. But I cannot say anything about alternative medicine, as I really haven't tried it, I would if I am desperate, but not at the moment, so will give that a miss.
Mez83 Posted May 18, 2006 Report Posted May 18, 2006 My friend went to the doctor a few years ago and was told she had nothing to worry about as it "was only the flu". She was feeling worse a couple of hours later and got sent home and told she was wasting the doctors time. She was admitted to hosptial later in the evening with the deadly type of meningitis. Luckily they were able to cure her!! We refuse to go to the doctors at the university now....They were the same ones who told me I just had a sore throat four times. It was tonsillitis.

At the moment in Melb, some hospitals are having an outbreak of Golden Staph, and almost always when I come home from visiting my parents in hospital, I get the cold or something. You've just said exactly what we said to my lecturer and he argued the point that people catch illnesses such as MRSA from hospitals themselves but why are hospitals actually riddled with MRSA in the first place? Poor building structure (human error) poor cleaning (human error) over worked, over stressed doctors (human error on the part of the management) inadequate funds (human error on the part of the government). When all these sorts of factors go together is when illnesses like MRSA or Doctor errors occur. It's the environment that causes sickness and the environment is created by humans. Sorry I'm being pedantic now, not meaning to cause offence.
~Lynd~ Posted May 18, 2006 Report Posted May 18, 2006 The nurses think i'm crazy for prefering the mask then the needle when i have an operation,or need anesthetic for anything. But i really would..i love the stuff makes me happy!
Gypsy & Will Fan Posted May 18, 2006 Report Posted May 18, 2006 So I'm the only one that likes needles? All the other girls were crying when they had to have there BCG but I just walked in had it and walked out. They all fainted and were crying. That was the only thing I won against my bullys!
Skykat Posted May 18, 2006 Report Posted May 18, 2006 That's why they don't use gas in Dentists anymore, it affects people too easily! I wish they did though, my fear of needles is irrational and drives me crazy but I'll do anything to avoid them.

If I hated needles, I wouldn't have so many face piercings ;)
