I don't think that I've studied those ones. I stuck with the nature question because classwork had focussed alot on that subject. I think it went rather well!

It's really fun, and it's the subject (+ literature) I do really well in... :P

I hate my Linguistics module. I have been revising all day, I have done ONE lecture. Out of 22. This is not a good speed at which to be working, but I find it so difficult, not to mention dull. I am sticking with history and literature from now on.

Jeh-Jeh, I do French and German at Manchester, I'm in first year, and the only compulsary modules I have are the core language ones. I have 3 hours a week for each language - an hour of oral, and hour of grammar and then the last hour is called "written", but in it we read texts and respond to them, a lot like we did at school. The rest are free choice modules for me, there are about ten for each language and then I chose about four. But the people who just do one language have to do all the units, they don't get choice. Do you want to do just Italian? What other A-Levels are you taking? Or you could pick up a language at beginner's Level at Uni too.

I don't know if I want to do just Italian. I guess a language would be good with something else, like Law or something. But as I'm not doing any other foreign language 'A'-Levels (I'm doing Italian, English Lit, Biology and Philosophy&Ethics), I guess I would have to pick up a language at beginner's level at Uni. I don't mind doing that, as I love languages (I wish I'd done French and Italian at GCSE, but when I chose my options I didn't really know what I wanted to do, in fact, I swapped from French to Italian at the last minute), so I guess I could pick another one up without much problem. So that could be an option if I don't know what other subject to take it with. I just really don't know, all I know is that I want to do Italian at Uni! But the year abroad could be a problem for me because of my disability. It's not that severe, but the first thing that my Mum said when I mentioned to her that I wanted to study Italian at Uni was the year abraod! So I guess that could have quite a lot of bearing on my decision.

Hi jeh jeh

I'm on a year abroad at the moment in France (my degree is law with french), its really good because you come back speaking the language 10 times better. It is possible to study two languages at uni and start one from scratch. You can contact different unis to enquire about help they have for disabled students if this is worrying you. xx

That's so cool! I am very scared about my year abroad, but a little bit looking forward to it. What are you doing? My friend is doing law with French and will have to study French Law in her year abroad. I don't know what I want to do. Not an assistantship, I would hate that, but I quite want to get a job and do work experience rather than study.

Jeh-jeh, I imagine if you are on the course they will make the year abroad work for you. If you were studying at a Uni then it would be OK, wouldn't it? At my Uni you can pick up any language from scratch apart from French. I think you can do Spanish, German, Portuguese, or Russian.

I do love my degree sometimes, just not when I have loads of deadlines and exams! The literature and history modules are my favourites.

ETA: I am doing straight languages, but I think as a qualification that isn't very useful without a practical one as well! I am thinking about law conversion or even nursing after I finish this degree.

I'm in Strasbourg, it's near the German border which is good because I can speak German as well. I have to study french law here, i've been here since September, it's exams now then I go home in 3 weeks. Everyone is petrified before they go but it turns out alright, at first you find it difficult to understand different accents and French people speak really fast but you get used to it until you forget that people are speaking to you in a foreign language and you start saying French words in the middle of sentences when you're speaking English.

^ That sounds really good! I want to split the year I think, or work somewhere that allows me to speak both languages.

Any girls here now?
