Marieh Posted May 26, 2006 Report Posted May 26, 2006 Very deep inside That's what I find so annoying about English people....when I go abroad I'm happy to try and speak the language (OK, maybe Norwegian could be hard, but you get the point ), but most countries still have everything translated into English. And English people still expect people to speak English. Yet everyone here expects everyone to speak English perfectly, and considering how many foreign people there are here, I don't think we make many provisions for foreign speakers. Does that make sense? I couldn't explain myself very clearly...sorry.... *off topic* Gary (english man) don't speak norwegian because people laughed about him, he speaks english to us, and we speak norwegian to him And then this weird crazy teatcher spoke to him once, and she talked to him on englsih because she didn't know he knew norwegian , it was so funny being at work that day! I get what you're saying, but seeing as English is the world language (at the moment) it's no wonder you will find signs is Norway written in English. Norway has less than 5 million people (less than 5 million people know how to read and speak Norwegian), while English has abot 380 million native speakers + 150 million - 1 billion second language speakers (foreign language speakers not included, which Norwegians are - English is taught as a foreign language in Norway, it is not our secind language). In Kirkenes all the signs are on norwegian, Sami (?), and Russian!
