MarMar Posted June 4, 2006 Report Posted June 4, 2006 That's exactly my point! We have a system in Norway called "Fastlegeordning" - a program where you suppose to have to deal with only one GP (as in general physicial until you need to get referred to whatever else you need) so that the doctor "get to know you". That system really does not work. I had a great doctor when I was a kid, and although he was a children's doctor, I went to him until he retired. The I was sent to this weirdo close to where I live. Then came "Fastlegeordningen", and I was assigned to a doctor with 3000 patients. I have had to go to the doctor to get sick notes so that I don't fail school a couple of times, and I have only seen her once. Also, the time I went to her, it was to get a new prescription for BC-pills, and she was a total cow. She probably thinks it's unethical or something, but it is her job and she should do it without moaning.
Gypsy & Will Fan Posted June 4, 2006 Report Posted June 4, 2006 My doctor is a cow too, she is just so unmoving or caring, when I went there to tell her I was felling sucidal all she said was I'm sure you will feel better soon! WTF??? Surely she was meant to ask me why?
Jess Posted June 4, 2006 Report Posted June 4, 2006 My GP is a cow. I have seen her once. Every time I book an appointment I get another doctor instead. I hate going to the doctor. Me to Merc.I don't have a GP,Becourse except for my feet i don't get sick.Whenever i go to the hospital though to see the doctors i always get someone different. If i don't go people get p!ssed but i'm like, what's the point,i get someone different everytime. They don't know me and don't know my problem properly either therefore are no help what so ever. I havent seen my orthopaedic 'specialist' for 2 years. In that time I've grown another 2 feet and got rid of my AFOs (splint-y plastic things that were meant to help me walk but just gave me blisters and made me unbearably hot in the summer), I'm beginning to think I may never see him. (You're generally 'signed off' at 18 - I'm now 16). People rave about 'how marvellous the doctors are, 'cos you're walking so well', and I'm sure there are some good doctors out there, but in my case, it's literally been down to mine and my physio's hard work. S*d what the 'specialist' says. Grr.....it annoys me so much! Sorry, rant over now! XxX
~Lynd~ Posted June 4, 2006 Report Posted June 4, 2006 Doctors clearly don't like me.I've had a million specialists since i was 16 for my feet issues.Even though i've been in a chair my whole life my feet issues have only been huge since then.I can't remember the last time i saw a doctor for anything else.I had the same one until e moved and then anothere one for a few years after that till i moved but she was nice but stupid. The first one was good,i'd hasd him since childhood, till about 19. Since then the problem has been to much for them and they pass it on to th next one.I never see the same doctor mre then a few times. It's at the point where i'm seriously considering amputation, but only if i can get prostesis[sp].I don't even know how much it'd cost or if i'd get help from somewhere, but i'm sick of community people coming in and judging me,telling me i don't care becourse i don't sit in bed all day and trying to tellmme i don't look after myself and my house isn't spotles blah blah blah.I also want to travel and do things which i can't at the moment becourse i haave to wait for the commiunity nurses every second day to do the dressings on my feet, who also do all the judging. As if they're any better becourse they arn't in wheelchairs and have my problems! Anyway a bit of the topic but yeah, rant over!!
Jess Posted June 4, 2006 Report Posted June 4, 2006 Do you have to pay for healthcare in Australia just out of interest?
~Lynd~ Posted June 4, 2006 Report Posted June 4, 2006 No,if you're on medicare a lot of things are covered or if not all then part of things, you may have to pay a bit yourself and they pay a bit..If you have private health insurance things happen a lot faster and you get a chioce of doctor and a private room, blah blah. If the surgery you have is considered elective and not essential you have to pay for it yourself. I probably havn't explained it to well,i don't know a lot about it really, but that's how it works pretty much i think.
Jess Posted June 4, 2006 Report Posted June 4, 2006 Oh, OK. We have the National Health Service and IMO, they are about as much use as a chocolate teapot. You can get private healthcare and you get a room and stuff, but even then the waiting lists can be huge because people are cottoning on to the fact that the NHS isn't worth the paper it's written on. Grrr....it annoys me SO much!!! Sorry, rant over!
Liz Posted June 4, 2006 Report Posted June 4, 2006 At least people who don't have much money can receive medical care that they otherwise wouln't be able to afford, though.
~Lynd~ Posted June 4, 2006 Report Posted June 4, 2006 I agree.I don't know if tv potrays it realistically but it amazes me that in America you could be dying but unless you have insurance they won't do anything.WTF??
Jess Posted June 4, 2006 Report Posted June 4, 2006 I guess, but there's no guarantee that they'd actually receive it when they need it....I was told that I'd have to wait 2 years for a wheelchair on the NHS....LOL I agree.I don't know if tv potrays it realistically but it amazes me that in America you could be dying but unless you have insurance they won't do anything.WTF?? I know, do you reckon they'd actually let someone die 'cos of a lack of insurance?
