pam Posted July 8, 2006 Report Posted July 8, 2006 Thats really interesting...I think I'm going to go and do a little research. You have inspired me Mar :-).
MarMar Posted July 8, 2006 Report Posted July 8, 2006 There exists a few different brands. I think Diva Cup is the largest (http://www.divacup.com), there is the British Mooncup (http://www.mooncup.co.uk/), a Finnish brand called Lunetta (or something like that) and non-reusable Insteads. Also, LJ-community with a very good memories section can be a good place to start as well: http://community.livejournal.com/menstrual_cups/
MarMar Posted July 8, 2006 Report Posted July 8, 2006 So far I have not heard about any girls/women who are unable to figure out how to use them. Some need more practice that others, but we all figure it out in the end, and in contrast to pads/tampons you can have it inside you for a longer time.
pam Posted July 8, 2006 Report Posted July 8, 2006 That sounds really good. I hate it when I go out at night and I keep having to change my tampon. It gets really annoying and sometimes its really easy to forget.
MarMar Posted July 8, 2006 Report Posted July 8, 2006 Another good thing which I simply forgot to mention. It's cheap! I paid (I think it was) US$32 with the shipping (to Norway, would be the same to Aus. I would imagine), that equals AUS$42. Imagine how few tampons you can get for that amount. Diva Cup say you can use it your entire life, but I've read that women tend to get new ones every 2-5 years. Still, it pays off quite fast.
Jess Posted July 8, 2006 Report Posted July 8, 2006 That sounds really good. I hate it when I go out at night and I keep having to change my tampon. It gets really annoying and sometimes its really easy to forget. I hate having to change tampons when I'm out too. It's probably worse when I'm at school as short of carrying your school bag to the bathroom, it's harder to disguise.
pam Posted July 8, 2006 Report Posted July 8, 2006 I know. Most of my friends are against them though and tell me off for using them. I'm the only one that uses tampons while one other had tried but they think its too scary. I honestly don't know what I would do without them. Especially over exams with all the stress I was getting my period every 10 days...I even had it for my prom (which I was really angry about).
Jess Posted July 8, 2006 Report Posted July 8, 2006 Every 10 days? Wow, that would drive me mad...I'd probably end up with chronic anaemia as well (my periods are always unbearably heavy) But period on your Prom...that's harsh I'm so glad that didn't happen to me!
pam Posted July 8, 2006 Report Posted July 8, 2006 Mine arn't usually that bad. Usually stopping after 3 days and only a few drops for the next 2. But now they are back to normal (I hope). As its summer and that means extra swimming. Yay
