MarMar Posted September 13, 2006 Report Posted September 13, 2006 Frankie! You got a Moon Cup!? Yay! Another convert!
MarMar Posted September 13, 2006 Report Posted September 13, 2006 Ok, I have a question: Is there any natural anti-depressant I could try that wouldn't mess up my hormonal birth control?
deadea Posted September 13, 2006 Report Posted September 13, 2006 yep- St. John's wort. if you google it you'll get some really good info about it. I've been on it for about 6 months and that (and therapy I must add) have really made a difference.
Frankie Posted September 13, 2006 Report Posted September 13, 2006 5HTP is supposed to be good....but its always a good idea to check out whether it is hormones or some other chemical imbalnce whih is causing or contributing to someone felling depressed. http://www.biopsychiatry.com/5-htp.htm
claire_louise Posted September 13, 2006 Report Posted September 13, 2006 If a doctor prescribes you with anti-depressants without talking to you properly about your symptoms and referring you to some sort of counsellor then I'd take his advice with a pinch of salt. Depression isn't a physical problem, you can't just take pills for a set amount of time and be 'cured'. Liz, I don't know what it is that's making you feel this way but there's likely to be an underlying cause, and the best way to find out what that is (assuming you don't feel better anytime soon) is to speak to someone professionally. Depression CAN be a physical problem...see my earlier post...depression can a whole host of physcial causes....there may be emotional reasons why people ebcome depressed but it is worng to say that theese are the only causes...depression can be CURED if it has a physical cause. Frankie, I appreciate that I didn't word my post particularly well and you're right in what you say, but was it really necessary to criticise so harshly (and more than once)?
MarMar Posted September 13, 2006 Report Posted September 13, 2006 The problem is that we don't have that "drug" here, and I couldn't import it, so I'm equally stuck Also - yes, this is whining, it'd be cool to win the last icon maker standing/avatar contest just once. Guess I never will.
katya Posted September 13, 2006 Report Posted September 13, 2006 I'm so depressed about how dark it is outside...winter is a-coming.
deadea Posted September 13, 2006 Report Posted September 13, 2006 could you not get it on ebay? just a thought. I get my brother to post it to me (st. John's wort i mean) from the states as I live in Ireland. It was legal here until about 3 years ago, till the government realized the loss of profit and went with the big chemicals Mercury girl- it is available on ebay, i just checked- its also called Hypericum
Jess Posted September 13, 2006 Report Posted September 13, 2006 I don't want it to be winter either, katya! Hmm...I've had the scariest few days at Sixth Form...the teachers are going on about Uni. and it's so scary! I've sent off for a few prospectii (?) but I'm feeling totally overwhelmed...if I hear the word "UCAS" once more, I'm gonna scream! And I'm only in Lower Sixth!
MarMar Posted September 13, 2006 Report Posted September 13, 2006 It would get stopped by the custom - no matter where I got it from. I don't think it's legal to import it. I've found several online stores which carries it, and other, similar, drugs, but it wouldn't help when they declare it for customs by writing 'medicine' or similar on it. It's not even legal to import one can of Red Bull here.
