claire_louise Posted December 23, 2007 Report Posted December 23, 2007 Ooh sorry, I'm a bit behind! Haven't seen you around here much lately. Glad you had a lovely time.
MarMar Posted December 23, 2007 Report Posted December 23, 2007 That's because I haven't been on in six weeks... So much have been going on in my real life...
MarMar Posted December 23, 2007 Report Posted December 23, 2007 My life has turned around a bit due to... well, I have something called Asperger's Syndrome. It doesn't change anything, realistically (as I am too old to have help in school, etc), but there's been a lot of thinking and considering and my life can now be seen in a new light. It's something that has changed me, but also made me stronger. At least now I know why I am the way I am.
claire_louise Posted December 23, 2007 Report Posted December 23, 2007 Wow, that must have been quite a revelation. It must explain a lot knowing that you have it? I think it's a really positive thing if you can actually pinpoint why you are the way you are - I wish I could!
MarMar Posted December 23, 2007 Report Posted December 23, 2007 Definitely. It's been a huge relief to have a name and something specific to work with. I've had depressive episodes in the past, anxiety, bipolar-like cycles, etc, etc. Of course all of that can be co-morbid with AS, but it hasn't been the only thing "working against me" as I've thought earlier. But, at the same time, it's kinda scary because although I'm still me, something has changed. I'm more aware of my quirks and oddness and I'm kinda analyzing everything I do - is this autistic? Is this? Am I acting odd again now? That will pass, though. I hope.
claire_louise Posted December 23, 2007 Report Posted December 23, 2007 Try not to worry, I'm sure that's a perfectly normal reaction. Just concentrate on the good that has come out of it. Have you got anything nice planned for Christmas?
MarMar Posted December 23, 2007 Report Posted December 23, 2007 I'm not a Christmass-y person, but we've got the traditional dinners You? Anything you're particularly looking forward to?
claire_louise Posted December 23, 2007 Report Posted December 23, 2007 Well it's my birthday tomorrow which is nice, although to be honest I'm not excited like I usually would be. The past 18 months have been quite tough for me health-wise and it's kind of hard to look forward to the festivities when you're not feeling so great. I'm also working on Christmas Day...but I am still looking forward to it, honest!
MarMar Posted December 23, 2007 Report Posted December 23, 2007 Oh! I didn't know! If I'm not online tomorrow, happy birthday! I hope the new year will be better for you, especially with your health
