Sorry i'm going to have to tell you that i don't think i'll be updating for a while. I've gotten stuck in how to fit together the ending. :S And i've kinda lost my feeling for writing. All i can think of is: Harry shot Jack, Jack dies boohoo. And i really don't want that as an ending (as i'm sure neither do you :P) so i hope you can wait so i can make it the best ending i can. Thanks :)

Chapter Twenty-Four

Chapter twenty-four

(Two days later)

"Laura I need you to help me out with the Holden Case. Harper's been called to a seize."

"I'm kinda busy with..."

"Now Laura!" McGrath said sternly. She shuffled the scattered piles of papers lying on her desk together to make one neat heap and stood up. She took her hat and they both exited the station.

"So when do you think I'll be able to go home?" Tony asked Flynn as Julie ticked off the requirements on her list. His voice still slightly croaky.

"Well if all goes well with this next test you should be able to go home this afternoon." He smiled.

"Great. No offence, but this hospital food is just awful."

"No need to apologize," Julie laughed. "Why do you think I bring my lunch every day?"

Beth smiled and squeezed Tony's hand reassuringly. "I can't wait to have you home. I think we should have a nice home cooked meal to celebrate."

"Sounds like a great idea," Lucas jumped in before Tony had a chance to reply, a little too eagerly. Tony turns his eyes to look at his youngest son whose eyes had lit up.

"Well don't we seem excited? This wouldn't have anything to do with a certain girl named Matilda would it?" He smirked. Lucas smiled smugly and leant back in his chair.

"Okay, well I'll be back soon to see if you can get the all clear," Flynn smiled and walked out, Nurse Julie following closely behind.

"I think I'm going to go and get another coffee. You two want anything?" She asked Lucas and Jack. Jack was slumped in the corner of the room staring at his hands, not listening to anything anyone is saying. There wasn't anything Jack had been able to think about other than Martha for the past two days. Constantly wanting to take those words back. They weren't even true. Beth stared and Lucas stared at Jack.

"I'll just have water, and so will Jack." Lucas answered for the both of them.

"Okay, I'll be back soon." As Beth left the room Lucas once again turned to Jack, proving that he was annoyed at his older sibling for ignoring Beth. Sensing that one son was about to rip into the other, Tony cut in.

"So how about you bring Martha along for the dinner?" Tony had heard from Beth that during his accident Jack and Martha had become very close again. What he didn't know was that was the catalyst for Lucas' outburst to rear its head.

"Of course Jack won't invite Martha." He shot out, standing up and looking down at Jack. "You want to know why dad?" He asked rhetorically. "Because he's an idiot! Not only does he have an incredibly big mouth and no brain but he's too stupid and proud to know when to say sorry or to run after someone when it needs to be said!" He was so angry with his brother that he stormed out of the door and slammed it shut before he too said something he would regret, leaving a baffled Tony.

*************************************************

"You really do have a problem there don't you?" Tony stated. Jack sat and buried his head back in his hands trying his hardest to sink into the chair, still not quite believing the incredibly harsh words that had escaped from his lips. "Don't feel sorry for yourself Jack," He then warned with the same tome. "Sitting here and going through all the 'what ifs?' in your head isn't going to help you at all. You need to talk to Martha and sort this out, and more importantly apologize." Jack was about to speak when Tony cut him off again. "And don't you give me that 'I can't' rubbish. You can and you will. No son of mine is going get away with giving implications like that to a very innocent girl." It was at that point that Jack just wanted the chair to swallow him and take him to a big black hole and be done with it. A knock on the door interrupted their chat and Jack rolled his eyes as McGrath and Laura walked in.

"We just need to ask you a few more questions about that night," McGrath said politely.

"Haven't we already been through this twice now?" Tony moaned, raising his head off the pillow.

"We're sorry but we just wanted to know if there was anymore information that you remembered or something we might have missed."

"I was lying on the road with blood dripping from my head because a car ran into me with no intention of swerving. Do you think I remember anymore?" Tony asked sarcastically.

"Dad calm down." Jack said as he jumped up to move to his father's side. As much as Jack loved his job he was starting to see why people didn't greet him so warmly when they saw him coming in uniform.

"What's going on?" Beth said as she burst in, placing the waters on the table and joining Jack with Lucas right behind.

"We're sorry but we needed to see if anyone remembers anything new about what happened."

"How many times do we have to tell you this?" Beth snapped. Neither Tony nor Lucas or even Jack for that matter remember anything more than what they have already told you. Here's an idea. Why don't you go and try and find the scum that did this to victim instead if harassing him and working him up?"

McGrath was beginning to get annoyed at their lack of co-operation but it was nothing that he hadn't had to deal with before. Jack couldn't be bothered defending them at this point in time. He wanted them to get out and leave just as much as the rest of his family. 'They obviously know no more' McGrath thought and decided that if was best that he left before upsetting the patient anymore. "Okay then, well I best-"

"Be off." Beth finished smartly, glaring at him the whole time he made his way back out the door.

Tony was still in a slightly worked up state, his face hot and flustered and he felt like he was getting a temperature when Beth felt his forehead. "Lucas can you get a doctor." She called.
