Chapter Twenty-Seven

Tasha was still standing in the kitchen thinking about Martha when she heard a loud banging on the door that snapped her out of her thoughts, almost dropping the cup in her hand. "I'm coming!" She yelled trying to be louder than the vigorous banging. She opened the door in a huff and came face to face with Jack. "What's the pro-" Her expression of surprise soon turned to one of annoyance and she turned cold. "What the hell are you doing here?" She snapped.

"Tasha?! I could ask you the same question."

"I'm here because I thought that Martha would need a friend after what you said."

"I need to talk to her. I need to-"

"You need to go home and leave her alone," Tasha interrupted him.

"Listen Tasha...."

"No you listen to me," She said picking up her finger and pointing it at Jack. "I don't know what it is you want to tell her but I think you've done enough. I'm not even sure if your male brain realizes just what those words mean to a girl but I'm just going to tell you this- Get out." With that she slammed the brown, wooden door in his face.

"This guy is hard-core." Laura said as she continued to turn the pages "I've never seen some of this stuff before."

"As a sargant nothing surprises me anymore. But it is a rarity when I come across something like this in Summer Bay," McGrath replied.

"It looks like he wasn't getting any business for a while between this job and that Laura pointed with her finger.

"So he was probably running out of cash as well. It's not as if he had another job that we know about so that must have been his main income." Laura gasped as she turned the page to reveal a photo of Tony and details written next to his name. "Tony... Holden." She said. "Jack's dad! The accident the other day, it must have been Williamson."

McGrath was also surprised to see the page. "But who would want to take him out?" His eyes scrolled down the page until they landed on the name that had asked for the job to be done, and the name stood out like a sore thumb; Harry Chambers.

"Chambers?! But I remember Jack telling me that he'd forgiven him and that they'd been really civil."

"Looks like he was playing him for a fool. And now he's gone after Jack's family. Right, this Williamson and Chambers are dangerous. I want a warrant for their arrests now"

"No need," A voice came from behind him. It was Rice.

"Williamson is dead," Harper confirmed, standing next to Rice. "We just had the body identified through dental records and the streets being closed off. It was Williamson and he was murdered, three shots to the heart and and one to the head "

"What?!"

"One of the bystanders recognized him, though from the state he was in I was surprised and we got the a rush on the dental records. They were already on file along with his finger prints. Apparently he's been in trouble before for theft of a car."

McGrath's brain was going into overdrive. All these facts seemed to be thrown at him at once and and he knew they were somehow connected, he just didn't know how. He took a deep breath and looked around at the other law enforcers.

"So we know that Williamson is dead. And we know that Chambers was one of his clients. What we don't know is who took him out."

"Do you think he had any enemies?" Laura asked which caused all the the others in the room to look at her with disbelief.

"He was a hit man!' Rice stated the obvious. "I think that was a given." Laura looked away at the ground slightly embarrassed by the question she had asked.

"Ok we'll you and Rice are going to bring Harry in for questioning, so we can get some answers," McGrath ordered at Harper and Rice.

Martha; completely oblivious to the eyes that were upon her every step continued to walk down the road and into the back street. She didn't want to have to run into anybody she knew. She wasn't up for the friendly chat and she didn't need to put on a fake smile and lie through her teeth about how perfect everything was. Once half way down the round she stopped. A car pulled up and wound down the window.

"Do you know the way to the surf club love," The voice called. Unaware of how much danger she was in, Martha walked up the car ready to explain the way. As she approached the car the man inside shifted his eyes to the ground behind her.

"You just dropped something," He lied. As Martha turned around he jumped out of the car and latched onto her. The strong force of his hand covered her mouth stopping her from breathing and the other produced a small black gun. He pressed it into the side of her head harshly forcing her to release a whimpering noise. Pulling her towards the car she felt his hot breath on the curve of her neck. The sensation made her cringe, her eyes began to water and the pain against her head was beginning to throb.

"Try anything and I'll shoot," He whispered before roughly pushing her into the car.
