Slade, Ricky had asked Nate to look for the number of the estate agent who had handled the sale of the gym, he came cross Brax's text and Ricky's response while doing it.

Btw how did they know he was even thinking of going to the Fund Raiser

It wasn't entirely obvious but it looked like Tank was looking at a flyer for the fundraiser, Josh seemed to take it off him and screw it up.

Okay, let's get it out of the way first.I am furious at what they did to Oscar. It makes Kyle's exit look like a happy ending in comparison. It's been pretty obvious that no-one on the show has been that interested in him, as indicated by the fact he hasn't had a decent storyline in about two years and has spent the last year being shunted to the sidelines to make room for Matt, a character who is the definition of pointless in my opinion. But that means you send him off travelling or have him suddenly get a place at that uni he wanted.Instead, he gets killed off for shock value. His epitaph?"No pulse, sorry." I am left wondering what the hell the point of his character arc over the last two and a half years was if he was never going to get a chance to live his life.Leaves a very bad taste in the mouth that no amount of histrionics from Evelyn can make up for.

Elsewhere, the line-up of characters in between episodes was more or less consistent even if Matt does appear out of nowhere and there's no catch-up on Tank, last seen staggering around the other side of the caravan.Matt's reaction to Maddy being a bit uncomfortable was so over the top I wonder if it was done purely to put in promos; she doesn't even seem to be in much pain, let alone at death's door.I didn't twig that no-one had seen Ricky turn up...but then Phoebe realises she's there in about the first two minutes so that was pointless anyway.Ricky's looking the worst off of the injured (Roo and Maddy didn't seem particularly bad), and the promo seems to be pointing in that direction but then it doesn't look good for Hannah either.Wasn't the way she and Josh just wandered up after Oscar was found, as if they'd been having a nap and hadn't realised people were worried about them, just utterly silly? And when was this fundraiser meant to be taking place? It's the middle of the night yet John and Ash are still on their way and Irene's faffing about at home.

Oh my gosh, Kristian Schmid, who spent the 90s as Todd Landers in Neighbours and Adam Newman in The New Tomorrow People.Bearing that in mind, despite his youthful looks he must be in his 40s, so around the right age to be Irene's child, as his "You're not leaving me again" seems to imply.Unless it's another case of mistaken identity, as with Claire? It was nice to see a photo of Fin (first time since the 90s?), although I was puzzled that it seemed to show her with a boy and a girl (Tina Thomsen's own children?) when it's been established she had two sons.Um, maybe she had a third child?Or maybe the girl was someone else's(foster daughter?)?Mick's obviously done his research to know all about Fin and Chris.

Don't know why they bothered to send Carter, apparently all they needed to do to solve Charlotte's murder was leave Kat in a room with the evidence for an evening. It kind of feels like we're past the point of caring, even if I did genuinely have no idea until a magazine decided to announce it, twice (okay I'm letting it go now...), and while it was a nice touch to show Charlotte's meetings with everyone, they might have fitted better when we first found out all that stuff, rather than Kat having flashbacks to things she never saw...

I suppose this week's events prove the old soapie adage true: it's not a hospital fundraiser unless several people land up in hospital. Why is it that when I stop watching for a few days, pretty much everything kicks off? I've caught up right up to today's episode now anyway, so apologies in advance for the essay.

So after Skye and Tank more or less agreed to be platonic last Monday, I was really confused as to why Skye spent most of the following episode acting as if that had never happened, as she continued to let Evie, Oscar and Olivia believe that they were some sort of item. Which in itself wouldn't bother me given how self-righteous they were all being about it, except that it then prompted Josh to start throwing his weight around and attack Tank. And Andy to pretty much threaten to do the same. Which didn't help anyone. By this stage I'd more than had enough of Barrett brother testosterone, but thankfully they were reduced to bit-player status for the rest of the week.

I was scared Kat would end up becoming a serial victim at Carter's hands, so it was a relief to see her standing up to him like she did. However, Ash and Kat feels like yet another roulette-wheel romance among the twenty/thirtysomethings that I didn't need or want. I'd rather they'd just kept them as friends, and in fact I think the Carter story would have been more powerful if they had.

Meanwhile, marriage doesn't seem to have done anything whatsoever to improve Ricky and Nate's relationship, as they continue to squabble like children over every trivial little thing. You get the feeling Ricky's never going to be satisfied until she drives off into the sunset with Brax, probably off a cliff and with something exploding in their wake. On the other hand I can't really blame her for responding coolly to Nate because he's such a plank. But I can blame her for marrying him. Maybe the dynamic will change post-explosion with the news that they've had to remove Ricky's womb to save her life, but I'm not banking on it.

The attack on Billie was a real surprise. It feels like the show is inflicting some kind of gruesome karma on her for when she cried wolf on Nate (particularly given the location of the attack), which I'm not sure is in the best taste. As for who was responsible, I'll be watching everyone's arms closely in the days to come for that telltale tattoo. But I suppose Carter, Tank, Phoebe's photographer beau (whose arms remained markedly folded throughout two of his scenes on Thursday), and Todd Landers/'Uncle' Mick, are top of the guest cast suspect list. On the subject of the latter, I really hope they're not going to waste both Irene's child and Kristian Schmid on another psycho-by-numbers type character, assuming he is indeed her long-lost kid as his behaviour seems to imply.

And onto the fundraiser. First thing to say: I rolled my eyes at everyone chortling at the prospect of a guy taking another guy to the ball as his date. Once again, fine to joke about it if the show didn't consider it so entirely beyond the pale that they'd never actually make it happen. They really went all-out on the explosion, and it all looked very impressive, but I wasn't buying that the blast happened in bright daylight, and yet so many people were still missing/trapped by the time it was dark - what were the emergency services doing for all that time? It was one caravan that blew up - would it really have rendered so many people mysteriously absent for so long? And everyone else just seemed to be crowding around Maddy, rather than some of them going off and looking for other survivors. It just seemed really ill-paced.

As with nearly any fatal soap disaster worth its weight, it looks like we might have both The Instant Goner in Oscar, and The One Who Seems Fine But Keels Over Later On in Hannah. On the former, I can only agree that this was a very unceremonious end; Oscar deserved far, far better to become instant grief fodder, while (in my view) far inferior characters such as Josh and Andy come out entirely unscathed, when this would have been a perfect opportunity to wave some of them off. On the up-side, at least this almost certainly rules out Oscar from having killed Charlotte. I've always had a horrible feeling they might have made him the gunman - but now that would be a massive waste of a reveal. On the latter, next time will tell whether Hannah survives, but that kiss with Chris did feel suspiciously like a final one. I can't say I'll be too devastated if she's on her way to the Great Surf Club in the Sky; she's a well acted character but has been written in such a silly, fickle way that it's been impossible to empathise with her for much of the time.

Interesting to see new doctor Tori catapulted straight into the regular cast. Does this mean Nate's on his way out too?

And finally... With all the above going on, it seemed like a really odd time for the Charlotte investigation to suddenly reignite. Guess they're really hoping for some decent viewing figures this week. Kat using the old chestnut 'You!' to keep the identity of the murderer from the viewers was a bit of an eye-roller, but perhaps with her phone call at the end of Tuesday's episode, we're finally about to discover the culprit.

OK Red, ta for that.

Does seem a sloppy way to get rid of a character who admittedly hasn't had much to do being overshadowed the way he has by Evie.  Talking of whom, her twin radar seems to have gone off line again. Wonder if it was his, the actor's, choice to leave or TPTB. Didn't Tank drive off in his car after being pummelled by Andy, notice there was no sign of Skye, not even a figure in the background. Maddy seeming not to be in any pain could be down her arm having gone numb and Nate was right that they shouldn't lift the pylon until the emergency services got there and they took forever.  Just where did this new doctor come from, parachuted in just in time to take charge, look after Roo, finding Oscar, then later tell Nate he couldn't tend to Ricky as she was his wife, like that has ever stopped any doctor treating  relatives, friends before. There was the usual milling about. The Fund raiser started off in broad daylight, I guess it was meant to be an all day thing, the explosion happened then the next thing we know we're at the Diner and suddenly it's night which was very jarring.  Surely TPTB didn't think it would be more dramatic having all the main action happen at night, then to cap it all it starts raining. (Ignore me there I was being sarky ) of course they wouldn't. Not only that  no-one there including Kat, Ash and John who had wandered in on his way to it knew anything had happened until McCarthy came and told them,  is the caravan park that far away from the Diner that nobody heard the explosion or at least felt it? Good decision on McCarthy's part to keep Kat away from the park for the very reason her friends were involved.  Ricky just seemed to have slipped in, then took the call from Cheryl. How handy Phoebe found her handbag!  Hannah didn't appear to have any head injury so not sure what causes her collapse, unless it had something to do with her op.

Isn't that guy too young (if he was in his 40's) to be Irene's son, she had her child 50 years ago which matched Claire's age As he knew about Chris and Irene being Fin's surrogate which she told Claire about could he be Claire's son. He said Chris had told him about Fin, very unlikely, even though he had earlier said he hadn't spoken to the family for years. I was puzzled about his "You're not leaving me again" remark though. Mick's claim to be Chris' uncle would have rung true if not for the fact he didn't say anything about  Spencer also being his nephew, I don't recall Irene telling Claire Chris had a younger brother unless it happened off screen.

As the police were closing down the investigation into Charlotte's murder I guess Kat decided to pack up the evidence and ruminate over the various items recovered at the time, Irene's button, Charlotte's phone which Kyle had, CCTV  footage of Nate following Charlotte. Then discovering, what looked to me like a metal washer, which prompted her to look it up on the computer and lo and behold she knows who dun it. Going solo cop as others have before her she then decides to ring the suspect and asks to meet them, usual wise (or not) move.  When viewed first time the flashbacks were more for 'our' benefit I think than the cops, especially the last, fatal, meeting with Charlotte. Apart from seeing Nate on CCTV all the other ones were what Kyle, Irene and Nate told the cops the scenes were TPTB's imagining.

Irene's kid would be 45, and despite appearances, Kristian Schmid who plays Mick is 41.

Didn't Tank drive off in his car after being pummelled by Andy,

As I noted on Friday, despite going there to stop Andy going in, Andy drove off in his car, leaving Tank behind, still just outside the venue.

Not sure where to start so let's go for Oscar. This is feeling increasingly like a beat by beat reprise of Neighbours' explosion episode this year, but unlike with their twins, we have witnessed the close bond between Oscar and Evelyn, so while I'm not appreciating him being killed off just so we can see Philippa Northeast (another one who seems to be a favourite of those behind the scenes, as noted back when her character wasn't very popular) show that she can do convincing wails of grief, it is at least a believable reaction. (She'll probably forget about him as quickly as she did Denny though.)Her struggling to refer to him in the past tense was a nice moment.Cheesy soap cliché that it is, I was kind of grateful for her dream of Oscar, since it looked like Jake Speer wasn't going to do anything except play dead for his last week.As for Hannah...well, she committed the fatal soap error of Not Getting The Head Injury Checked Out.I'll leave fuller discussion until we find out if it was fatal or not, but I'd love it if Andy's last memory of her is her walking away ignoring his attempt to console her.(The promo, again, gives away far too much, although at least they're still hiding the killer's identity.)

Feels like too much is happening off screen.Despite the throwaway reference to him coming back the previous night, Alf's sudden appearance and the lack of acknowledgement to him coming home to carnage felt like we were missing all the important stuff.(They really should know not to throw fundraisers while Alf is away: Last time, the town was wrecked and Bianca was raped, an eerie echo to all this.)I really hope we see some sort of reaction to Oscar's death from Maddy, written out for an episode by being sent to a different hospital for the night: I know I'm a frustrated shipper but he was important to her for a long time, we should see it.And Andy just turning up also felt odd, although at least we got to see the moment when he realises it's all his fault: The flashbacks made it look like Barrett did all the damage, whereas on Friday it looked more equal, even if he did effectively instigate the confrontation. He seems to be taking a long hard look in the mirror and realising just what his violence has led to...and ironically he comes across better than Josh, who seems in full scumbag mode by declaring "Whoever did this to Oscar needs to pay" without even knowing whether anyone did anything wrong. It's a big blow to Tank as well, he's been trying to be a better person and now this has happened partly because of him.(And partly because of Josh frankly, given that he got Andy fired up in the first place.)I wasn't too keen on Kat badgering him, is she going to do the same to Ricky or Maddy or Zac? I know his car was found near the explosion but it really felt like the police trying to make the convicted criminal a scapegoat.

But really, there's too many important events happening simultaneously and important stuff being left out, to the point that Ricky having a hysterectomy, which should be a major development, has no impact whatsoever.Firstly, Kat's solo investigation gets one scene. As atrus said, assuming she did speak to the killer on the phone, that rules out Oscar (which I'm glad about, although since he's dead it's not much of a consolation). But why isn't she telling anyone?Okay, they've got other things on their minds, but she deliberately obfuscated with Stevenson.Even more jarringly, if Irene's disappeared as that shot of the empty beach house last episode suggested...why is no-one worried?Fake texts aside, she was meant to be at the fundraiser and presumably no-one's seen her since the explosion, wouldn't her going missing ring a few alarm bells?Have Chris and Olivia not noticed a whole person missing from the house?(And what's happened to the teens?I'm guessing they're not still at the movies but you'd think VJ and Hunter would notice the burning wreckage at the bottom of their garden.Again, we're not getting the reactions when we should.)You'd expect Alf and Leah to want to check in with her as well.

I noticed Tori was a regular but she kind of got lost in the mix so I wasn't sure what to say about her.On first impressions, she seems likable but she hasn't really been given any role other than The Doctor so far.Unless they build on her quickly, she's in danger of being another Natalie Davison, brought in to fill a professional role but not having any real background or personality.Although come to think of it, that's pretty much what's happened with Nate.

Oh, so there isn't much between Irene's new eldest and Nathan then who'd be 44 this year.

The Oscar at the fridge dream scene was very well done and it was very Home and Away.

I also liked the scene with Evie looking at the photos on the mantelpiece, again it felt very Home and Away.

I've mentioned this elsewhere, but just for the benefit of the UK viewers in case they're thinking the same - H&A's explosion was scripted and filmed over a month before Neighbours did theirs.

Neighbours have a quicker turnaround between filming and broadcast than H&A have, so even though they wrote their version after H&A, they managed to get it on-screen first. Therefore H&A has copped a load of flack for apparently 'copying Neighbours'

Well Irene's lost child was born in August 1970, making them nearly 46 - and we know Irene met Mud when she was in her late teens and they were married within a week, so there probably wouldn't be a huge gap between them...(though perhaps a little more than the 2 years it appears to be)

I suppose if you look as Nathan as a substitute for the baby she was made to give away then it actually helps her backstory and why she put up with Mud for so long - she lost one baby because being a single mum wasn't the done thing (and the circumstances) so she wouldn't have wanted to risk that (although she then did lose Fin & Damien which made her turn her life around) - and then she favoured Nathan over the others, forgiving him anything up until the point she gave him up to the Police and even then she was the one working to make it up to him after he was released in 2002.
