The last two chapters were great!

I really feel for Martha and the pregnancy won't help matters, I'm sure.

Still really intrigued about this secret between Chris and Martha that has meant she has to stay with him...hmmm...I have no clue! :D

Please update soon

Chapter 17

As the night went on, Martha spent her time at the bar looking dejectedly at Alex and Jack laughing, drinking and generally enjoying each other’s company. Martha wanted to hate Alex, but there was nothing to fault because she just seemed so nice. That just served to make Martha angrier. ‘At least Jack’s got someone with no complications, someone who he deserves’ she thought to herself sadly.

As the Surf Club gradually started to near closing time, people started to leave. Looking at Alex and Jack for about the millionth time that evening Martha noticed her getting up and giving Jack a kiss before leaving. Jack came up to the bar and smiled.

“Hi” he said to her. “How are you?” he asked, genuinely looking worried.

“Well my life’s a mess, but I’ll live.” Martha replied sulkily, “Thanks for asking though.” She added as she gave him a grateful smile. He returned it, but the concerned look was still there.

“You look tired and pale, are you sure you’re not ill?” he pushed.

“I’m fine.” She answered, looking down.

“You know Martha,” as Jack reached out and took her hand, “I will always be here for you as a friend if you need one.” At that moment sparks coursed through Martha’s body at his touch. Quickly she pulled away.

“Thanks.” She said. “Well I’m going now, so I’m afraid I’m going to have you chuck you out, even though I know you would just love to spend hours in my company.” She ended jokily. Jack laughed. She started to fiddle with the keys to lock the doors of the Surf Club, but she was having problems focusing properly.

“You OK?” asked Jack, who had noticed her struggling. Starting to feel faint, Martha’s vision went blurry then suddenly she fell and blacked out.

Jack watched her fall and ran towards her.

“Martha!” he called out. “Come on! Wake up!” He couldn’t believe how worried he was about her. As he got out his phone to call an ambulance, he felt her hand on his arm.

“Martha!” said Jack relieved. “Let me take you to hospital, you really don’t look good.”

Martha was too weak to protest, as Jack picked her up and carried her to his car, placing her gently in the front seat.

In his arms, he rushed Martha into hospital to be met with Rachel.

“Martha!” she exclaimed in surprise. “Right Jack could you put her in this room and tell me what happened.” She said as she walked into a room just off the waiting area.

“Erm, yea” said Jack “She was locking up the Surf Club and then she just collapsed and went unconscious. I was going to ring an ambulance but she woke up so I brought her in my car. Do you know what’s wrong with her?”

“Well, I’m not sure yet.” replied Rachel, even though she had a fair idea.
