Right Jade, your post in the challenge thread got me thinking and I'm being completely biased and unfair by refusing to read Jack/Martha fics just because I don't like the pairing SO I decided to give one a go and seen as I already know you're a good writer I thought I'd give yours a try.

I'll admit at first I thought it was going to be typical Jack and Martha fluff but you're a good writer so I kept reading and I'm really glad I did.

I am so intrigued as to what the deal is with Chris and why she has to stay with him. I also really like this Alex character and the complications she's causing and although I'm sure most of your other fans will hate me...I'm glad to hear you're thinking about going for something untraditional with this.

So I'm going to join the masses and ask you to update soon because I really enjoyed reading this and I can't wait to see where you go with it. I really like your style of writing and you pick up emotions really well, I also like how you manage to create intrigue and yes I'll admit you do write fluff pretty well!

Anyway I hope I don't sound condescending because this post is 100% complimentary, you might just have won me over... or at least you will have if you update soon! :P

Sorry everyone, busy few weeks, with lots and lots of work. I will try and update soonish.

SKYKAT- Thanks for reading it, I'm glad you're enjoying it and I trust you to give me 100% of your honest opinions. I am going to do something slightly different at the end, because I don't think I'd feel satisfied if I finished it and everything was perfect...

And I may have won you over??! :o

Now I'm going to follow your lead, be unbiased and read your fic when I get home, because I absolutely love your writing!

I'll really really try and update soon. :D

I decided to read another fanfic after reading Nicom's Returning emotions. I chose yours 'cause the introduction was intriuging and I became hooked :) I also liked the name. I just spent the last few days reading it and I love it. Its very well written and you handled the Domestic Abuse Issue very tactfully. Well done. there are two things I dislike about this Fanfic:

1. Chris

2. Alex

How about a car crash involving these two and Chris dies a slow painful death :P

Great Fic, looking forward to an update :D

Ok, this is quite amazing but I've got an update. :o I know, I've surprised myself. I think sorry's would be wasted because I can't apologise enough for having kept everyone waiting for a ridiculous amount of time. I won't be surprised if everyone's stopped reading this fic by now. But yes, here it is, the next chapter, you could possibly call it a mini climax. I hope you enjoy it! :)

Chapter 22

Martha stumbled clumsily through the door excitable and yet tired after her night out, trying to make as little noise as possible. As she brought her wrist up to her face to check her watch, she noticed that it was 2am and lightly frowned at her lateness. Chris had asked her to come back at 12, and she felt a bit guilty arriving back late despite the fact that she had texted him. As she slowly stepped blindly into the living room which was showered in darkness, a light suddenly flickered on to show Chris sitting down on the sofa, almost in a stance.

Martha took one look at his face and started to panic. She knew that look, he was angry. More than just angry, he was furious.

In her head she cursed herself, knowing what was going to happen, and trying to work out why she had been such an idiot.

‘Two stupid hours’ she thought to herself as she took a step back. But it was too late to try and reason with him. Within a second Chris was standing, grasping the glass table lamp in his hand. Without care he threw it at the wall just next to Martha. She immediately covered her face as she heard the glass smash, the broken pieces fly everywhere, showering her with sharp objects as she trembled.

“What kind of time do you call this??” Chris shouted. Martha cowered, tears pouring down her face as she tried to back away.

“Chris, please don’t… calm down” she begged quietly. He took a few steps towards her until he was towering over her heaped form. Grabbing her arm he pulled her up, then proceeded to push her into the wall. He moved in until his body was pushing up against hers. Making her uncomfortable, hot, unable to move, to do anything in her defence.

Leaning forward he whispered into her ear.

“You expect me to calm down.” He said, his tone of voice calm and yet menacing, cold.

Stepping back he looked at her.

“You disobeyed me!” he raised his voice. “And now you’re going to do exactly as I say. We’re going to bed.”

Martha looked at him terrified, dreading what she knew would be coming; slowly she started to follow him when she subconsciously placed her hand on her stomach, almost protectively. Suddenly, as she felt the bump protruding she realised that it wasn’t fair. As her motherly instincts took over she realised that she refused to expose her baby to him, to that kind of abuse.

As Chris walked ahead of her she turned on her heel and made her way towards the door as quietly as possible.

“What are you doing?” Chris asked into the silence. Martha froze and turned around cautiously. She looked at him, his facial expression suspicious, his voice menacing. He looked ready to hit her again.

“Erm…I’m just getting a glass of water…” Martha stuttered, praying he wouldn’t lose it. For a moment he just stared before walking up to her, pushing her roughly out of his way and walking out of the door. Martha groaned as she hit the floor, her hands protectively around her bump. Shooting pains were going up and down her back but Martha knew that she couldn’t stay. After a few minutes she slowly got up, still grasping desperately onto her bump, and ran out of the house to the only place she thought she could go to; hoping, praying that he was in and that Chris wouldn’t come back.

Jack groggily opened his eyes, to find it was still dark, and yet someone was knocking furiously on the front door, intent on disturbing his sleep. Only half awake he stumbled around his room, feeling his way across the floor to find some clothes and eventually he managed to pull on some old trousers before walking to the door and opening it. But as he stood there in shock, he found the one person he hasn’t expected it to be.

“Martha?” Jack asked in surprised, but one look at the tears streaming down her face and the cuts on her arms, the bruises, told him all he needed to know. Opening his arms, Martha fell into them sobbing into his chest as she finally accepted help, as she let go of all the pain and hurt she had gone through.

I will really try. Anyways, I have ideas for other fics so I really want to finish this one, it's getting on my nerves now because I feel tied down. :)
