NEW CHAPTER!!!

*sinnnggggggssss*

No you're not deluded, it's here.

Athough I can't take the credit at all - it's Krystal's (Jamey Maria) guest chapter. I want to say a huge thank you to her for writing this, because firstly, it's brill, and secondly, it's inspired me again. Your writing Krys, actually suceeded in getting me out of my writer's block. Expect updates people, I'm not promising loads every day, but I'm saying regular ones should happen - like every few days. :) So, again, thanks to Krys for being my inspiration and of course writing the chapter, and thanks to Nicole for making me see sense (you know what I'm talking about... think 'ending' :P)

Oh, but one thing - you might wanna read the previous chapter to remind yourselves of what happened (I know that I had to :P).

Oh, and anaother thing, it's my one year anniversary of being a member of bttb today! :)

'celebrate good times, come on'

Enjoy the chapter.

Chapter 23(?)

Martha's eyes slowly flickered open, re-adjusting to the light that was streaming in through the windows. For a moment she felt fine as she stretched her toes out and they rubbed against the end of the couch. She could relax and enjoy the feeling of waking up casually without having to fear for her safety or tip toe around anyone- without having an overpowering and dominating male next to her. But the feeling of normality didn't last. It came back like a bowling ball rolling down an alleyway until it hit the pins with full force, making the pit of her stomach sink with sickening feeling. Fear would creep back into her thoughts with a resounding thud as long as Chris was around. She would never be safe and neither would anyone close to her, which was why she had to leave; today.

Martha slowly closed her eyes again hoping to sleep in a little. Maybe she could go back to her dream and drift into another world for a little bit longer before having to face the wrath of reality and the events of the day to come- especially dealing with Chris, or more importantly how not to have to deal with him. Her eyes rolled back into her head and she stifled a yawn, beginning to doze back off. But just as she did, the smell of bacon aroused her sense of smell and shot her eyes open involuntarily, pulling her out of the dream world she was about to re-enter. She was pregnant, and food and Martha, just seemed to go together all the time these days, no questions asked. Sitting up from the couch she disentangled her legs from the blanket, peeling it from her skin before using the arm of the couch to push herself up. She wandered over into the kitchen where the pleasant smell had wafted in from to find Jack setting two plates with breakfast.

The orange juice had been freshly squeezed and it looked like Jack had gone to a lot of effort. She smiled to herself at the sight. No one had gone to so much trouble for her in such a long time. It was funny how something as small as breakfast could make you feel so special, or wanted. The feeling was really nice; she paused to take it all in and remember it before concluding that the truth was Jack was just really nice. He saw her from the corner of his eye, immediately aware of her presence and spun around quickly almost dropping the plates in his hand.

"Hey," He smiled as that feeling came back. The one he had every time she was in the room with him. He couldn't help it either, it was automatic.

"Hi," She softly, and quietly replied with a shy smile. Jack's eyes roamed her apparel. She was wearing his grey sweat shirt, and he couldn't help but think it looked a lot better on her than it did on him. It fell to about mid thigh and hung off her shoulders. It was obviously too big for her and Jack couldn't help but think she looked adorable in it. Her hair was ruffled, and pieces of the dark chocolate-like locks lay randomly around her face; lacing her features. Her smile glowed and set off her beautifully clear skin. She had radiance about and she'd only just woken up. It must have been the pregnancy.

"I was just about to come and get you." He gently spoke, trying not to blush after staring and studying her so intently. All Martha could do was smile. She was actually feeling a little overwhelmed. It was very rare that she ever felt like that, especially over a man.

“Well you know,” She finally managed to get out in a joking manner, “Doesn’t take me long to find food,” She finished with a light giggle, placing her hand to her stomach. Jack laughed.

“No, no it doesn’t.” An awkward silence followed once the smiles died down, very similar to the one that had followed last night when Jack had told Martha that he and Alex were engaged.

****************

Who did she think she was? Running to next door’s night in shinning armor when he was about to assert his authority, showing her that he was in control. He was the one calling the shots. Not her, and certainly not her moron of an admirer, the one that seemed to be around the corner at every moment to protect her. He snarled to himself. She wasn’t going to get away with everything she owed him, no way in hell was he going to let her get away with it all.

**************

“Sit down,” Jack quickly shot out, sounding a little too eager. He stood behind her and placed his hands on her back, slowly pushing her forward to a chair. “We don’t want all this marvelous cooking to go to waste.”

“Marvelous cooking?” She raised her eyebrows, questioning him.

“Well yes,” Jack started to get smug once Martha was sat. “I’m quite good in the kitchen I’ll have you know.”

“We’ll see won’t we. I hope a trip to the emergency ward won’t be necessary,” She teased him, poking her tongue out slightly.

“Oh haha. You’re so funny,” Jack mocked a laugh.

Chapter 24

“It’s ok you don’t need to tell me” Martha replied, tongue in cheek. When no immediate comeback came to Jack’s head he just laughed and gave a resigned shrug.

“I can’t think of a comeback” he said dejectedly, sticking out his bottom lip.

“Ha! I beat you, I beat you” Martha chanted as she stood up to take the plates to the sink. She couldn’t help but just think about how great it was that she could tease and taunt Jack, with no fear. No fear or violence, no fear of being forced, of being stared down at. A smile played on her lips at the thought.

“What you smiling at?” asked Jack curiously, as he broke through her trance.

“Oh nothing, just the fact that I won!” she replied, laughing as she saw Jack stick his tongue out.

“Yea, yea, no need to rub it in.” he sulked.

“Oh, but there really is.”

A comfortable silence came over the place and all that Martha and Jack could think of, was how nice this was; the situation, that feeling.

And then it suddenly hit him. Alex. The wedding.

‘Damn it’ he thought to himself as he turned away from Martha with a frown on his face. What was he doing? Martha was a friend. One he really cared about, but nevertheless, a friend. Maybe he’d been getting confused; taking feelings of deep friendship and making them seem like something more. He was confused; probably as confused as she was. This was not supposed to happen. It just wasn’t.

Smash.

Jack was brought violently out of his thoughts by the sound. Turning around he found Martha wincing in pain as she stood, surrounded by the broken shards of plates on the ground.

She stood paralysed as memories came flooding back of Chris. He’d often thrown plates at her. The sound, the shatter, the shards, the pain. It made it all feel too real. She felt a hand on hers and opened her eyes to find herself looking into Jack’s brown ones. And she could see concern mirrored in them.

“Are you ok?” Jack looked worried.

“I’m ok…” Martha said unsurely.

“Don’t lie.” He said in return. Martha glanced up quickly in surprise.

“It reminded you of Chris didn’t it – I could see it in your face, It was betraying more than physical pain.” Martha fought hard not to let the few tears on the edge of her eyes from spilling over.

“It’s ok”. Jack said, opening his arms to receive her in them.

“No it’s not ok, Jack.” She replied angrily, as she pushed past him to try and leave the room. But she slipped on her way past. Already sensing what was going to happen, Jack caught her.

“Martha, just talk to me, I’m here for you.”

And Martha didn’t know what came over her. Her feelings maybe? She was facing him, looking into his eyes, thinking about how great he had been to her, and she leaned up. Her lips approached his.

But Jack grabbed her around the shoulders and gently stood back.

“Martha just don’t”

Tears spilled onto her cheeks.

“I’m so sorry Jack” she said, shaking her head in disbelief. How could she have been so stupid? Too embarrassed to look up from the floor she turned and ran into the bathroom, locking the door behind her swiftly. Slowly she slid down the back of the door to sitting position, and let the tears fall freely.

OMG I am so happy two updates in one day!!! They were both fantastic.

I am glad that Jack stopped himself from kissing Martha because even though i want them to get together, i don't want their first kiss to be when he is seeing someone else! I don't like a cheating Jack

You will be impressed, 'cause you know how you said that we might have to go back and read the last chapter? Well when i looked i couldn't remember which chapter i had got up to so i thought, What the heck, its not as though i've got anything else to do! So i started from the beginning and am now totally clued up again, and I'm thinking that this has got to be one of my best fics! lol (Well i wouldn't have read it again fromthe start otherwise!)
