If not right with the pic just adjust it until you like it

Coloring Tutorial; includes B/C, Curves, Selective Coloring, Levels and Fill Layers, PS 7.

We are going to make

vlcsnap-76418copy.png

from

vlcsnap-76418.png

NOTE: this tutorial should not be followed directly. I encourage you to change the steps to suit your image. Unless you use my image, that is ok too :)

Step One

Crop, resize, maybe even sharpen your image. Whatever you like to start off with. Even if you are using a dark image, don't make a screen layer.

Step Two

Make a new adjustment layer of Brightness/Contrast. B: 11 and C: 7. If you think your image needs more contrast, up it a bit. But we're upping the contrast more later anyway.

Step Three

New adjustment layer of Curves. You range around Input: 91 Output: 167. Depends on your image.

Step Four

Now, duplicate your base layer, set it to soft light Opacity 35% and bring to top. Play around with opacity.

Step Five

Now, I'm focusing on her face. I'm trying to get her skin tone right. So make a new adjustment layer/selective coloring. Cyan - Reds - 29.

Step Six

Another Selective Color layer. Again we're trying to improve her skin tone.

Reds

C -25

M -13

Y +50

B +14

Step Seven

This is partly Your Step. it should create some tone in a color. If your image has a lot of green in it, maybe up something in the Greens to try bring the Green out more. I wanted more Blue in my image, so I did

Blues

C +100

M +100

Y -100

B +100

Now that you've brought out one of your colors, go to Neutrals -

C +16

M +17

Y -7

B -5

Step Eight

Make a new Adjustment Layer/Levels and do auto levels.

Step Nine

Make a new fill layer. Color depends on your image, I used turquoise. Set it to Soft Light.

Done!
