1) Find a texture on LJ or deviant art or any other place you might get textures from.

2) Open it and drag it onto the image.

3) Play with the opactiy and settings e.g 60% on lighten or 40% on colour burn.

That's how I do it anyway. :) If you're talking about the textures that actually come with ps I don't really know, I think they're crap. :P

Tutorial

My first ever one!!

1. Crop/Resize till you have a base you are happy with

2. Duplicate base and to screen. Only do this if the pic to dark.

3. Selective Colouring

Yellows

-34

4. Add a new fill layer with d997e1 at softlight 100%

5. New brightness/contrast layer

Brightness +2

Contrast +75

Then you can add whatever you want to it.

Comment please. How you think I can maybe improve?

Well, I just made my first tutorial :D It probably sucks though :P

Tutorial for PhotoShop CS2:

Going from this ccafbea4.gif to this 3f227af3.gif

1. Crop/resize your image until you’re satisfied.

2. Duplicate your base and set it to hard light 100 %.

3. Create a new fill layer and fill it with #b1f0f4. Set it to soft light 100 %.

4. Create a new adjustment layer and select Photo Filter. Then select Warming Filter (85) and set the density to 29 %.

5. Then create another fill layer and fill it with #07135f. Set it to exclusion 70 %.

6. Then go back to your base and select the burn tool, and use it on face and body (or the main object of the avatar). Then duplicate your base and drag it to the top. Set it to soft light 100 %.

7. Then create yet another fill layer and fill it with #f1cd50. Set it to soft light 100 %.

8. Then create another adjustment layer and select Photo Filter. Then select Cooling Filter (80) and set the density to 37 %.

And you’re done! Add brushes, text or textures as you please. If there’s anything that’s not clear enough, then feel free to ask.
