Here you have another tutorial from me.

Program: Photoshop CS3, but will work with older versions.

I just found the PSD for my favorite icon of all time and I just had to do a tutorial. This is what we are going to do.

middle_sister.jpg

1. Create a new image with the size 100x100. Take THIS texture. I don't know where I got it. Paste it over the background layer.

2. Find your picture and then paste it on your base. It should be located over the layer with the texture. Put it on the blending mode Hard Light. Now mine looks like this CLICK.

3. Duplicate your image layer (ctrl+j). Desaturate it and put it on the blending mode Screen with an opacity of 77%. This is how mine looks like now CLICK.

4. Create a new layer and fill it with the color #072562 and put this layer on the blending mode Exclusion with an opacity of 50%. Now your icon should look something like this CLICK.

5. Take THIS gradient and put it one the blending mode Soft Light with an opacity of 100%. Now your icon should look something like this CLICK.

6. Go down to your first image layer and duplicate it. Move the duplicated layer to the top and put it on the blending mode Hard Light.

7. Take THIS gradient and put it on the blending mode Lighten with an opacity of 66%. Now mine looks like this CLICK.

8. Take THIS texture and put it on the blending mode Hard Light with and opacity of 75%.

9. Now we are going to mask it a little. Create a new layer, fill it with the color white #ffffff and make a mask layer. To do that click on the rectangle with a white circle inside in the layer window. Take THIS brush and select the color black #000000. Brush once on the mask. You icon should look something like this now CLICK. This is how my masked layer look like CLICK.

10. Now you just have to add some text and maybe a brush and it's finished.

I'm gonna try that now. Will post results :D.

EDIT: "but will work with older versions". Sorry but the brush wont work on mine and mines like CS.

Sorry but I will try it another time.

Yes it will. I originally made that icon with Photoshop 6. Take the brush and open it in photoshop. Mark all (ctrl+a). Click on edit in the menu and then on define brush preset and there you have it :D

Does anyone have links to useful brushes/textures.

Or any other tutorials?

:D
