I feel very bad that I can't update so often anymore, but I simply don't seem to have enough time to do anything anymore, now that I've gone back to my busiest year at school.

I am very sorry that I make you wait so long but it's the weekend now so perhaps I'll get a chance to update soon.

Please don't hate me.

Awww I'm so glad you don't hate me.

Home and Away always - lol, there's nothing to forgive. I'm pleased you're so eager for my story.

Chapter ten

Martha was walking along the beach, hoping for some fresh air. She had been cooped up in the house for days, not bothering to do much as she was nine months pregnant and every little thing took too much energy. Her due date had come and gone a couple of days ago, and Martha was starting to get impatient.

“Why don’t you want to come out?” she addressed her bump, as she walked along lazily.

“Don’t you want to meet Mummy and Daddy? Or make Mummy more comfortable?”

Martha sighed. Her and Jack couldn’t wait to meet their new baby, and Martha especially was getting more and more desperate because she was so uncomfortable.

After about an hour watching the waves, which always had a soothing effect on Martha, she decided to walk home.

“Come on then, Daddy’s waiting for us.”

Both Martha and Jack had taken to talking to their unborn child quite often.

Suddenly she was crippled with pain, and then as quickly as it had come, it disappeared. Martha grabbed her stomach.

She had only managed to go a few more paces before she realised her waters had broken.

“Oh my god! Oh my god! Oh my god!” Martha tried not to panic. She knew that she would have hours to go yet, but suddenly she realised that she was really going to have a baby, and for a moment the thought terrified her. Then just as quickly the terror turned into joy. Martha and Jack were finally going to meet their baby.

Martha was walking slowly back towards her house, when she spotted Lucas.

“Luc!” she called out.

Lucas looked round and immediately came running over.

“Martha, are you alright.”

“Luc, the baby’s coming.”

“What!” Lucas stood frozen in panic. “Are you sure?”

“I’m pretty sur…” Martha doubled over in pain, clutching her stomach.

Lucas took Martha’s hand. “What should I do?”

“Just help me get home,” Martha replied, exhaling loudly as the pain disappeared.

Lucas never let go of Martha’s hand all the way home.

“Jack!” he shouted out, as soon as he opened the front door.

“Jack! Jack!” he kept shouting as he helped Martha into the living room.

She gently lowered herself onto the sofa.

“What?” Jack asked as he came out of the bedroom.

“Hey, you’re back,” he said to Martha as he spotted her. “What’s wrong?” he asked.

“Jack, the baby’s coming.”

“What?” For a second Jack’s face mirrored his brother’s earlier look of panic, but then immediately Jack grinned and kissed Martha passionately on the lips.

“Oh come on man, can you at least wait till I’ve gone to do that?” Luc protested.

Martha and Jack looked up at him and grinned.

Jack immediately took control. “Right, I’ll get your bag and then we’ll go straight to the hospital.”

Martha nodded, but then another contraction hit her, this one more painful than the others.

“Aaaaah!” Martha cried out as she held her stomach.

Jack was immediately by her side holding her hand.

“Luc, can you grab the blue bag just inside our bedroom door?” Jack asked, as he knelt in front of Martha rubbing her leg.

“Sure,” Luc was glad to do something to help instead of just standing there.

“Okay, do you think you can walk to the car?” Jack asked Martha gently.

Martha nodded, breathing heavily, and Jack helped her to stand as Lucas handed him the bag.

“I’ll go tell Dad what’s happening and we’ll see you at the hospital. Just don’t have my niece or nephew till we get there,” Luc said.

“Trust me, I think this is going to take a very long time,” Martha replied.

Martha’s head hit the pillow forcefully as another painful contraction finished.

Martha had been in labour for many hours now, and she was exhausted.

“I can’t do it anymore,” she cried.

“Yes you can, you’re my brave girl. I know how strong you are Martha, you can do this.” Jack reassured her.

“I know I kept saying I wished our baby would hurry up and come, but I take it back.”

Jack smiled at her, “No you don’t.”

Martha glared at him, “Well, would you like to be doing th…”

Martha cried out as another contraction hit her, and this time the midwife told her to start pushing.

“Come on Martha,” Jack encouraged, as he gripped her hand tightly, and placed his free arm around her shoulders for support.

Martha collapsed back against Jack at the end of the contraction, sweat glistening on her forehead, but the reprieve was brief as another contraction hit her.

“I can’t,” Martha shook her head crying.

“Look at me, Martha. You have to push. It will be over soon, I promise. You are going to bring our baby into this world, and I know you can do it.”

Martha gazed at Jack, and the love she could see reflected in his eyes at that moment gave her the extra strength she needed.

“That’s it Martha, good girl,” the midwife praised her. “One last push.”

The head was out, and then all of a sudden as it seemed to Martha and Jack their baby was out.

“You have a baby boy,” the midwife congratulated them.

The midwife took the baby away, and instantly Martha and Jack heard their baby cry for the first time.

Tears were flowing down Martha’s cheeks, but this time of relief and happiness, and as she looked at Jack she saw that he was overcome with emotion too.

“I love you,” Martha told him.

“I love you too. I told you, you could do it.”

Martha and Jack shared a kiss before the midwife came and placed their son in the arms of his mother.

“He’s beautiful,” Martha whispered.

“Of course he is. He’s a Holden – he’ll grow up to be incredibly good looking.”

Jack stroked his son’s cheek.

“Hi son,” he greeted him.

After a while Martha handed him over to Jack, and she leant against him.

“You two are adorable,” she told him.

Jack looked down at his exhausted wife and kissed her on the forehead. “You should sleep.”

I might just take a quick nap,” Martha said as she closed her eyes.

Jack gently put his son down in his cot.

“I suppose I ought to go and tell your family that you’ve arrived, Christopher Holden.” Jack said.

Sorry for making you wait so long. I was going to make this the last chapter, but I want to keep going with this story, especially as you seem so eager for me too. Hope you have enjoyed the arrival of a new Holden.
