Was it a case of dragging the layer to the bottom on the layers pallette and/or reducing opacity?

When I want textures on my icons, I just open the textures and used the move tool to drag the texture over the 100x100 icon in the making, then set the tezture layer to soft light, etc. Today when I tried to drag the texture over, it just slipped back to it's window - it's the best way I have to explain it...

Any ideas why? Or on what to do?

sorry this was probably posted ages ago but i thought id answer it. Any image that has been saved as a gif will automatically go to indexed colour so when you open it.you can't drag or create new layers .So tot change that oncce youv'e opened your images you just go to image then mode and change it to rgb or cymk if you want. I hope you understood that . but as fars as i know it just happens with gifs. Doesnt happen with jpegs or pngs

Edit: you may not save you stuff as gif but the textures might have been saved and uploaded as gifs of whoever had made the texture.

I don't use .gif, so it wouldn't help, and although I never understood why this happened, it suddenly fixed itself. Probably me being stupid.

Put the brush in a new layer.

Go to Edit >>> Transform >>> Rotate. :)

Although, i didn't ask it was useful to know. Thanks Merc & Liz. :)
