Help on Image Editing Software

Okay so im relli new to this avatar thing and i just got photoshop.. But i was wondering, can someone please tell me how to cut pics down to avatar size? I have looked, but can't seem to figure out how to do it..

Im really confused. I have GIMP 2, which is apparently the same as Photoshop. Does anybody have an Idea how to Blend Pics onto a for Example Pink Background. It sounds pretty easy but I dont know how to Remove the Background from the Pics I want to Blend on. Sorry if thats confusing.

When I have downloaded photoshop on winzip it says unzip to install and then it goes to the winzip stuff with 404 files and when i press install it goes back to the unzip thing

Its goin around in a loop

I am not to sure about the whole winzip thing but usually to unzip a file you right click on it and click extract all. I don't know if that maybe what you need to do.

I am very new to photoshop but I don't know how to get different fonts for text

http://www.webpagepublicity.com/free-fonts.html has a Wide Range of Fonts, over 6500, so Select the one you want >Save As>Local Disc C>Windows>Fonts

Edit: Sorry, that Site has Removed the Fonts...Bummer

I have got fonts but I dont know how to change the fonts once you have typed them in
