Slade Posted September 13, 2009 Report Posted September 13, 2009 I have probably got about half of Christmas presents already from things I've picked up during the year. I hate shopping in crowds so this is a very good thing. Serena Williams' outburst at the US Open made me lol. I know. Wasn’t it great? So funny and so unlike her. She’s usually so professional. Thing is I don’t even dislike Serena. Still great to see Kim in the final in her first Grand Slam since coming back from retirement.
Lise Posted September 13, 2009 Report Posted September 13, 2009 ^ I'm the same. I don't dislike Serena at all. It's just it would be a fairytale comeback for Kim.
Slade Posted September 13, 2009 Report Posted September 13, 2009 ^ Did you see Clisjsters’s face immediately after she found out she’d won? She didn’t look very happy. She wanted to beat Serena properly. Also Venus looked quite shocked and the crowd appeared to boo Serena when she was walking off but they cheered Clisjsters.
Lise Posted September 13, 2009 Report Posted September 13, 2009 I got that impression, too. She seemed quite shocked in the post match interview, too.
Barbara Posted September 13, 2009 Report Posted September 13, 2009 ^ Kim Clijsters would rather have won properly. And I can understand that. I'm still glad she won though. I'm not a fan of the Williams sisters and it's not the first time one of them showed they were bad losers. At least this time, they can't say it was because the audience wasn't on their side. It's the US Open so there were a lot more Americans than Belgians in the audience! Too bad, Yanina Wickmayer lost. It would have been great to have a Belgian finale again but it's still great she got to go this far!

It's the US Open so there were a lot more Americans than Belgians in the audience! I’m assuming you are referring to the Serena vs Henin match several years ago when Serena lost in the French open. I admit that wasn’t her finest hour but I still feel that their record speaks for themselves. You’d be hard pressed to find the number of Grandslam finals over the last few years that hasn’t featured one of the two sisters. And I still think for the most part Venus’s behaviour has been impeccable (unless I’m wrong). I’ve just watched a video where Serena was talking about being number two in the world behind Saffina and she made some sarcastic remarks about having three grandslams still not being enough to hold number one spot and Saffina won in Rome and Madrid. I have to admit I did find it funny (It was just the way everyone burst out laughing at the press conference). She does have a point although if she played more matches on the actual WTA tour it might be different. For the level of consistency with Clijsters over the years I was always disappointed she didn’t win more grandslams before she retired initially. Always seemed to be the bridesmaid behind Henin (another person who I was disappointed with when she retired and would have liked to see her win Wimbledon eventually). Now she’s back I really hope she wins this for her own sake and if so let this be the first of many…
Barbara Posted September 13, 2009 Report Posted September 13, 2009 ^ Yes, that is what I was referring to. I just thought that was low. Then again, I don't like bad losers in general. Sure, I don't like to lose and I prefer winning a game, whether it be a board game or a sport but I'm not angry or sad about it. It's just a game! I forget about it and maybe even play a new game! I wouldn't threaten anyone. And I know there is a lot of money involved but still, that doesn't mean you have to react like that. I'm definitely not saying the Williams sisters are bad players and as you said, their records are pretty impressive. If I remember correctly, when Justine and Kim played against each other in grandslams, Justine was the one who won most of the time. Usually, when Kim won a final, it wasn't one of the grandslams. There are rumours that Justine Henin is thinking about coming back but they have been going around for some time now. So who knows? Maybe you'll get to see her in Wimbledon again someday.
Eli Posted September 13, 2009 Report Posted September 13, 2009 It's wrong that I'm this excited. I shouldn't be. But I can't help it
flyingwithoutwings Posted September 16, 2009 Report Posted September 16, 2009 I'm just relieved. I just got back from the specialist with good news.
