I'm happy because despite an Enter of 57.7 and a D in my English VCE Exam, I got into Bachelor of Arts/Professional and Creative Writing at UB! They must have loved my folio.

Add to that that two of my best friends will be at the same campus, presuming that they also take the first round offer.

And because of this I'm now feeling significantly less depressed about my future. That's taken a couple of days to sink in.

Yesterday, the annual New Year's-party for the paper was held at a local restaurants. Pretty decent place. It was set up as a tapas dinner, free for all except that you had to buy your own alcohol (and those of you familiar with Norwegian alcohol-prices know that they're pretty steep). I don't drink, so I didn't mind - had water with the food and then bought a coke afterwards. Very nice. Got to wear my "alternative wedding dress" (which I in the end didn't end up wearing for the wedding, and that fit better now than it did when I first got it - increase in bra size is always good (up to a certain point, of course)). Got loads of compliments for the dress and everything.

After dinner there was an "awards show". Three from the jury (editor-in-chief, former news-editor and former culture-editor) got up and handed out awards to people who have been prominent during 2006. There were many "silly" awards, which there should be, but also more serious awards - Picture of the Year and that kind of thing. Former news-editor and culture-editor read the silly awards while editor-in-chief read the serious ones. An experienced photographer got Picture of the Year, no surprise there. Title of the Year was given to one of the more experiences journalists (and the less serious version "Huh? Title?" was given to a very good journalist who have a habit of forgetting to submit a title to her articles.

I guess the biggest surprise was that I got the Newcomer of the Year - photography. Jury's argument as follows:

"Hugineseren" [Hugin is the name of the paper - so "Hugineseren" is a derived word for someone who works for Hugin] began her career with a drive to Bryne for which she still haven't been paid. She has proved that [photographer], [photographer] [the one who were also as the Turboneger-concert*, whose pictures were not printed and who works as a photographer], [photographer] and [photographer] [who got Photograph of the Year] have a reason to feel threatened as one of Hugins best photographers.

Those who know me knows how much I hate that kind of attention (getting up, getting hugged and shaking hands while people watch, but at the same time it felt very good to get that kind of recognition. The Newcomer of the Year was given to the new culture-editor who really knows how to do her job, so being places next to her was... wow. She was sitting besides me during dinner and such and congratulated me and told me how much I deserved it, as I did likewise.

Later, before I left, I talked to one of the first-year journalists and she insisted that people gave me the most applause and said it was because I'm always so positive at the editorial meetings, taking the cases other people don't want or don't have time to do :P

The question now is what to do with the diploma?

Nice or what?! :D

^^ That looks so cool! :D

My hair is so... ugh. I used to love my hair, but since I had it highlighted blond and then unhighlighted it, it isn't quite the same... I do love my natural colour though... unlike my three sisters who have bright orange hair I got more of the darker colour auburn... but now in places it's turning that bright orange that Leisha, Kat and Anna (Kerianna) have... oh dear. Jade the Carrot Top. My brothers'll give me sh*t for that. Anyway, that's another matter that belongs in the moan thread...

I hope it turns out the way I want it to. The other colours were Green and Silver, which could suit me better. But I'll just have to try them all

I'm happy because I've finally made the decision to become a vegetarian! It's something I've been pondering over for ages, but after seeing Kill it, Cook it, Eat it yesterday,...I made up my mind. I'm not going to go vegan - I'll still be drinking milk, eating fish and margerine, etc. However, no meat will pass my lips again,...that's the plan anyway! :D Meat is nice, but from a very early age I've felt quite guilty about eating it. I really am pleased with my decision, and I'm looking foward to trying out loads of new foods :D.
