“Drew where are you going?” asked Dan.

“You need to talk I will see you later” said Drew as he walked off

“Who was that?” asked Noelene.

“I think you better come inn!” SAID Dan as he opened the door and let his mum and dad inn.

“So what brings you here” asked Leah

“Well next week would have been Pete’s birthday and the week after is one year since he died we wanted to ask you if you wanted to do something special”

Pete and Sally are sitting in the waiting area of the air port when Pete remembers his wallet is still in the car. As Peter walked towards the car he turned around smiling and laughing towards Sally but as he was about to turn back he bumped into Claire, he can’t believe his eyes. “Claire!”

he said as she stood back in amazement as she said “Pete… but your… dead!”

Claire didn’t know how to react and just looked at Pete as she had to touch his arm to make sure she was not dreaming, “Claire Its real It’s me Pete” he said as he reassured her, “Omg” Said Claire as she leaped into his arms hugging him tightly saying “I thought that, I thought I had lost you forever” as tears fell down her face.

But she suddenly realised that Lilly was fast asleep in the pushchair and Pete had no idea about her but was shocked when Pete said

“Claire is that Lilly?” he asked

“How do you know her name?”

“John told me!” replied Pete

“He is dead Pete, he can’t have told you”

“Claire I was there when he died, he killed Jason you no”

“He wouldn’t do that he loved Jason”

“Yes he loved him until he found out he was not his real son”

“Why would he kill him though” Claire asked confused.

“Jason was going to tell me about Lilly and you, so John reacted badly and they got into a fight, Jason didn’t make it. I’m sorry”

Tears fell down Claire’s face as Pete moved in a hugged Claire tightly

Dan, Drew and Leah walking back to the house when they Drew asked, “Whose is that car in the drive?”

“I don’t know” replied Dan as he walked faster and towards the back door where they saw Noelene and Kevin waiting by the door.

Dan was in shock as well as Leah but Drew was confused he had never saw his grandma and granddad before.

“Mum, dad what are you doing here?” Dan said in shock.

Claire was really upset, she was crying in Pete’s arms as Pete said “Is Lilly my daughter?”

Claire looked up at him as she said, “Yes I’m sorry I didn’t tell you before the explosion.”

Pete, Sally, Pippa and Lilly were all in a café near the airport, Pete had explained everything to Claire about her dad and Jason but Pete knew he would eventually have to tell her the real reason he left but at the minute he was too excited about having a daughter, he was ecstatic.

At this point Dan’s heart sank he knew that Pete had not been to see his mum and dad yet, he was dreading telling them the truth. He had no idea how to tell them either way they will be mad that he knew and didn’t tell them. Then there was Drew, they do not know that have a grandson who is 18.

Sally, Pete, Claire, Lilly and Pippa arrived outside Leah and Dan’s house where Sally said “Pete I will call you later” as they kissed each other goodbye.

Pete, Lilly and Claire walked up to the front door and started to walk in just as

Dan said, “Mum, dad Pete is….”

Pete had no idea that his mum and dad were sitting in the living room. “Dan I’m back with Claire and Lilly!”

Pete said loudly as he started to enter the living room with no idea of who was going to be looking stright at him as soon as he entered the room

Dan and Leah looked up as they saw Kevin and Noelene look at Pete like he was a ghost.

Bit of a long chapter tooday

Noelene looked in shock as Pete said “Mum, dad”

Pete turned around as Claire and Lilly entered the room, Pete was in shock and didn’t know what to do except just look at everyone before running out of the house, Pete’s head was spinning as thoughts of his lies and past regrets came back into his mind.

“Mum I’m sorry” said Dan as he watched her begin to cry in Leah’s arms.

Drew walked into the house and gave Claire a warm smile as her and Lilly waited in the kitchen, “You must be Lilly” said Drew as he looked over at her while she was sleeping.

“So you are the famous Drew Curtis” Claire said as she greeted him with a kiss on the cheek.

Sally entered the house and was shocked as she saw Noelene and Kevin drive off in a hurry, “Hey Claire”

Said sally as she entered the kitchen.

Pete raced towards the beach as he just dropped to the ground crying as he placed his head in his arms.

Dan and Leah entered the kitchen and said “I’m sorry about that Claire how are you” he said as he greeted her with a kiss on the cheek.

“Where’s Pete?” Drew asked.

“He raced out of the house” replied Dan.

“I will go and find him!” said Dan

“Dan do you mind if I go?” Claire asked.

“Sure” replied Dan.

“Leave Lilly here we will look after her,” said Leah as Claire handed her Lilly’s baby bag.

Claire left the house and headed towards the Surf Club where she bumped into Irene,

“wow it’s the one and only Claire” said Irene n shock.

“Hi Irene, Have you seen Pete”

“No I’m sorry love but if I see him I’ll tell him you are looking for him,” said Irene as she watched Claire walked off looking in the direction of the beach.

Claire slowly walked up to Pete who was sitting on the beach she touched his shoulder as she said, “Pete are you ok”. Pete remained silent as he cried even more into his arms.

“Pete I am so sorry please just talk to me”

He slowly lifted up his head as he said “ I am useless I can’t do nothing right”

“Pete look at me” Claire insisted as Pete tried to look away.

“Everything will work out!”

“What, how do you know Claire we thought that we would be able to stay together the second time but I blew it with you. I lost over 10 years with my son. My death was staged and caused my whole family heartache.

Once I came out of hiding I forgot to tell my mum and dad I was alive, then I find out that my best mate died to tell me the truth. Plus then I find out I have a 6 month baby girl”

“I’m sorry” replied Claire as she squeezed Pete’s hand.

“Pete It’s my fault we split up”

Pete looked confused as he looked her in the eyes,

“You no how I went mad at you the day before you left well it was the day I found out I was pregnant, you know me Pete and you know how much I love my job well I just freaked out. We never talked about having kids. I knew that Drew was your only one, Well we never talked about it so I just went mad and shut you out of my life, I thought it would be best but now I no it wasn’t”

Pete didn’t know how to react by what Claire had just said, he was still really upset that she never told him before he went into witness protection.

“Claire I was willing to go to the UK and look for you, I wanted answers. I wanted to know if Lilly was mine. Then I find out she might not be mine. I just don’t know what to think any more,” he said.

“Who said Lilly might not be yours?” asked a confused Claire.

Pete didn’t hesitate in telling her as he said, “Murphy and he told me he knew where you was but had no intention of telling me” he replied.

Claire was shocked as she just looked at Pete but she said nothing.

“What is it Claire” asked Pete as he knew she was hiding something.

“Tell me!” Pete demanded, Claire was shocked she had never seen Pete raise his voice like that at her before.

“I’m sorry” she said as she saw Pete’s face drop.

“What is it?”

“Me and Rice”

Pete looked at Claire in disgust as he said, “So it could be his?”

“I don’t know”

Pete just looked at Claire before shouting “I want you to get the baby and leave Summer Bay today!”

As Pete walked away she shouted “I can’t”

Pete stopped and turned to look at her but he couldn’t bear to look at her so he walked back to the house where Lilly was.

Claire raced after him wanting him to stop but Pete just carried on walking, “Pete please wait”

Pete arrived at the house and quickly headed into the living room where Dan, Sally, Drew, Leah and Lilly were. “Dad where’s Claire?” Drew asked his dad.

Pete didn’t even look at them as he headed to his room and slammed the door shut, Claire walked in the room as she said “we have got to go” she took Lilly from Dan as she put her in her push chair and raced out of the room.

“But Claire where are you going?” Drew asked as he ran after her.

Claire carried on walking outside as she heard Drew calling her back; she eventually stopped as she said, “I’m sorry”

“Claire can I at least come and see my little sister?” he asked.

“I will bring her to visit soon I promise” she said as she got in her car and drove off.

Drew walked back in house as he said “Is dad still in his room?”

“Yes”-replied Leah who watched Drew walk towards his dad’s room.

Drew headed to Peter's room and knocked. He wondered why his father was acting weird. Peter came to the door and opened it, saw his son and moved aside for him to enter.

“Dad, is everything alright?”

“Yes. Why wouldn’t it be?”

“Because you’ve been acting weird since you got back from the airport.”

“No I haven’t.”

“Come on, dad, we all saw you walking into the house and straight into your room without a word.”

“Where’s Clare?”

“She left. What happened between you and Clare, dad?”

“It’s a long story that I’d rather not like to talk about it.”

“We have time. Or to be precise, I have time. Dad, I have a right to know.”

“It’s complicated, Drew. I panicked when I saw my parents. I haven’t seen them for a long time. If memory serves me right, the last time I ever saw them was when I brought Clare round back home to meet them. It was the best time I ever had with them after 5 years….” Peter trailed off as his mind replayed the scene in his mind.

“So, you and my grandparents weren’t on the best of terms until recently?”

“No, it wasn’t until Leah and Dan’s wedding that we finally made our peace. Let’s just say, son, I did a lot of things in my life that I haven’t been proud of.”

Drew’s only response was to nod. He couldn’t think of what else to say to. Peter continued,

“Seeing them just now, I felt like a total idiot. I didn’t even think once to ring them or to go and visit them and tell them about what happened. I couldn’t bring myself to face them at that time so I just ran off. It was too painful. I know I have to face them eventually but I couldn’t do it just now. And then, she had to ruin it….”

“Clare?”

“Yeah.” Peter spat the words out bitterly.

“What did she do?” drew was worried. He really liked Clare. Not in the way that he did with Amanda but because it most probably had to do with Lilly.

“She told me that there’s a possibility that Lilly isn’t mine.” And at this, peter finally broke down. He hated being weak in front of his son but he couldn’t take it anymore. Everything was starting to get to him.

Drew was stunned. ‘Lilly might not be my sister. No wonder dad’s upset. Who can blame him?’ he thought to himself. A part of Drew was crushed. He had fallen in love with her the moment he set eyes on her and to think that she might not be his sister hurt him deeply.

“Drew, I don’t want you to think badly of Clare. Or of Lilly. Especially not Lilly.”

“Oh come on, dad, how can I think ill of an adorable baby.” Drew teased.

“Yeah, you’re right.” Peter replied and a small laugh escaped him.

Drew was glad to finally see a smile and a laugh coming from his dad. The only times that he had seen Peter smile was when he was around kids. Drew saw that it brought out a different side of his father.

“Dad, I know how hard it must be for you. I know that whatever I saw might not be able to help you through this but I just want you to know that I’m here for you no matter what.”

“Thanks, mate.” peter said and rose from the bed and wrapped his son in a big hug. ‘At least I know of one child that is mine’ he mused to himself. a part of him felt relieved.

Peter finally released his hold on Drew and shooed him out of the room, saying that he was tired and that he wanted to rest.

Meanwhile, on the outskirts of Summer Bay, a car is slowly speeding off towards the city. The occupants of the car were in too much shock to say anything. The son whom they thought they had lost was in fact very much alive. In fact, they saw him walking into the living room with their own eyes. And it was not a ghost. Suddenly, the car stopped.

“Why did you stop? Just keep driving.”

“Who are we kidding, Noelene?”

“What are you saying?”

“There must be some kind of explanation to this, right?”

“What kind of explanation do you want? He was right there. We both saw him.”

“Exactly.”

Kevin Baker reignited the engine and turned the car round back towards Summer Bay. He ignored his wife telling him to turn back round. Kevin Baker wanted to know the truth about his son’s death. And he was going to get it out of him before he walked away. He knew that he owed it to Peter to listen to hear him out.

When Noelene first laid eyes on her son, she was too shocked to say anything. Finding out that her son was still alive made her feel overwhelmed. And she could do nothing but cry. A part of her was overjoyed that he was indeed alive yet another part of her felt betrayed. She knew that she should’ve given him a chance but she couldn’t bear to face him. Thus, Kevin and her both just decided to get out of Summer Bay as soon as possible. Now, he was driving back towards the Bay to face their son. The son whom they all thought was dead.

They arrived back at Leah and Dan’s house, got out and walked back into to living room. Just as they were doing so, they saw the young boy, called Drew walking out of a room and heard Dan saying,

“Mom! Dad! What are you doing back here?”

“Is Peter here?” Kevin asked.

“Yeah, he is. He’s in his room. I’ll just go get him for you.” Drew answered.

“There’s no need to, Drew.”

At that, everyone turned towards the owner of that voice. When Drew walked out of the room, Peter felt that a good walk might help him clear his head. Just as he was walking out, he saw his parents. A part of him knew that he couldn’t ignore it any longer. He decided that he would just have to face his parents and tell them the truth. He owed them that at the very least.

“Mom, dad.” Peter said.

“Pete.” They both replied.

“Uhm, we’ll get out of your way.” Dan said as he beckoned Leah and Drew to follow him.

“There’s no need for that. I’d love it if you guys could stay. Especially you, Drew.”

At that, everyone sat down and Peter Baker began his story.

“I know it must be hard for you both to have been told that I was dead, when I really wasn’t. I was put into witness protection against my wishes. I know you guys have already heard this twice or more already [glances at Leah, Dan, and Drew], but I was there because of a man called Dennis Gillans. Clare and I put him and his family in jail. His wife died in jail and he pinned it on me. This wasn’t the first time that he had made that threat to me. He was released on parole a few days before the wedding and the explosion that supposedly claimed my life. My superior, Superintendent Murphy wanted me to be put into witness protection and I refused to do so. But, I had no say in the matter. Witness protection had everything all planned out and I was their pawn. When I found out what had happened, I was angry. I didn’t want to be in witness protection but I had no choice. I was badly injured from the blast in the explosion and I had to recover. I had to stay at the safe house and couldn’t contact anyone of you. I was restless and was nearly at the point of losing it completely.” Peter explained. He paused for a while to let it sink in to his parent’s minds.

“So, how did you manage to come back out? People in witness protection don’t just come out of witness protection like that.” Kevin asked.

“I came out of there to save my son, Drew.”
