Pete’s heart was beating so fast it felt like it was going to stop at any minute. He frantically tried to dial Drew's mobile number but there was no reception on his phone. He kept running until he saw a pink children’s bike lying by the side of the road. He knew that by taking the bike he would get there in half the time. He looked around and saw no one so he jumped on the bike and started to pedal as fast as he could.

He kept pedalling until he eventually reached the house. It was quiet. No cars were around. He placed the bike on the floor as he approached the back of the house. He looked in all directions before noticing a door open at the side of the house. As he was about to enter, he heard noises coming from inside so he pulled back and walked back outside, around the side of the house.

As he stood still he wanted to go in badly but for once he decided to take a different approach and wait until he knew he was late from the time he had been given to arrive, which was about 3 minutes. As he waited, he heard a car pull up at the front of the house. He tried to look to see who it was but the windows were tinted so he was unable to see anything.

As he stood back, he dropped to the ground as a gun shot was fired. He dropped in shock and he heard a car driving off. He picked himself up and raced into the house.

As he looked in the kitchen he couldn’t see anything so he walked into another room were he was faced with a body lying a few metres away. Lifeless.

He raced over to the body. He turned the body over, only to see Tracey bleeding from her stomach. Pete tried to find a pulse but there was nothing there. He then started to press down on her gun shot wound to stop the bleeding but it was too late. She was gone. Pete fell back in shock as his hand landed on the gun. He slowly picked it up and held it besides Tracey.

“Hello?” Jack yelled as he and Lara walked into the house

Peter dropped the gun as he turned to face Jack and Lara.

Jack ran over to Tracey and he checked her pulse.

“She’s dead.” Jack stated as he saw Pete’s hands covered in blood.

Pete slowly stood up as Jack pulled him away from Tracey’s body.

“Jack, you better call it in.” Lara suggested as she pulled Pete towards her, putting her arms around him.

Jack, Pete and Lara arrived at the station were Pete just walked over to a chair, and fell into the chair staring into thin air without saying anything.

As Pete sat in the chair, Claire walked out of her office and looked over at Pete as she called Lara and Jack into the office for a quick word.

“Is he ok?” Claire asked Jack. She was sincerely worried about Pete.

“To be honest I have no idea. I mean the Peter we knew 6 months ago is not the same man we all knew and loved.”

“Pete hasn't been himself. He has lost it a few times with people for no reason. We found him holding the gun.”

“Surely he wouldn’t. Peter couldn’t have.” Jack said to Lara trying not to think about all the evidence pointing towards Pete for Tracey’s murder.

The room went silent until Claire said, “Has he said anything?”

“Nothing. Nothing at all. After we found him, he just kept looking at Tracey’s body until he fell into my arms and I hugged him.”

“I really don’t want to say this but, I think we should take him in for questioning.” said Lara.

Jack and Lara just looked at Claire as she said,

“Ok, but for all we know Peter may have just found her there.”

“Bit of a coincidence, don’t you think?” Lara stated.

“First things first. Jack go and test Pete for gun shot residue while we wait for forensics to get back to us from the old house.” said Claire as she stood still trying to think of who could have killed Tracey.

Jack and Lara left the office and they saw Peter sitting down in the same position as he was when he first entered the station.

“I’m sorry mate, but we have to do this,” said Jack as he stood waiting to take Pete in the interview room.

Lara entered the room where she walked up to Pete and tested him for gun shot residue. Lara looked up at Claire who just entered the room.

“Positive.”
