swfc Posted January 11, 2007 Report Posted January 11, 2007 Next chapter: Peter had been in prison for three days when he received a visitor that he had not expected. Since the day that he had been denied bail, he had been on that bed pondering about life. He thought hard about Tracey’s murder. He couldn’t remember if he had done it. He wanted so badly to believe that he was innocent. He did, at first. But, the more he sat in that cell, the more his mind started playing tricks on him. As each day passed, he started to lose hope. He had slowly come to terms with the fact that he was in fact a murderer. That he actually, truly killed Tracey. Even if he had not, he had driven her to it. Thus, regardless of whatever people said, he was responsible for her death. He did not want his family to see him like this so whenever they came to visit, particularly his mother and his son, he made sure that he was as cheerful as possible to show them that he was coping. Yet, there was a small part of him that knew that they could see through his façade. He didn’t care. As long as they saw that he was fine, they would not worry about him. He did not want them to worry. He wanted to show them that he believed they could get him out. That they would be able to find the person or persons who had framed him. However, as the days turned into nights and the nights turned into days and the sands of time passed, Peter Baker started to give up. There was no way they could free him. He was stuck in jail. For the rest of his life. He was pondering about those things when Sally Fletcher had come to visit him. A part of him wanted to refuse to see her yet he was curious. He wanted to know why, after all that he had done; after all the hurt that he had caused her, she wanted to see him. So, he put on his façade and went to see her. If she wanted to see him, he wasn’t going to let her see him losing it. When he entered the interview room, he saw her sitting there, with a stoic expression that gave nothing away. He saw her look up as he entered and she smiled when he sat down. He returned her smile with a dashing one of his own. As soon as he sat down, he immediately got straight to the point. He did not want her wasting their time if they were going to sit there arguing about what had happened between them. He was, however, a little bit suspicious as to whether or not she was sent by his family and by Clare to try and get some information out of him. “What can I do for you, Sal?” “Hello, to you, too, Peter.” “Sorry. Hey, Sal. What’s up?” “How’re you holding up?” “Not too bad. Free food, free lodging. It’s all very good service. Who am I to complain?” “You know what I mean, Peter.” “Did Dan or mom send you?” “No.” “Did Drew ask you to come?” “No.” “Did Clare?” “No. why are you assuming that they sent me?” “Because the last time we spoke to each other, you threw a videotape at me and told me that you never wanted to see or speak me again. As I recollect, your son and Rocco threw me and my luggage out of the house.” “Oh,” was all that she could say. “Look, Sal, I’m saving us both from wasting our time, here. What can I do for you?” “Nothing. I just came here to see you.” “I don’t need sympathy, Sal.” “And I’m not giving you any, Peter. Look, as angry as I am with you, I know that you didn’t do it. And, at this moment, it’s best that we all stick together.” “You sound just like Alf when you said that” he laughed. This gained a chuckle from her too. “Has the town disowned me yet?” “No, not really.” “How’s Drew and my family taking it?” “They seem to be coping fine. No one’s giving Drew any problems at all. Although, he did yell at everyone at the Diner the other day.” “He did?” “Well, I think they were asking for it. I admit, I was there when it happened. And, he came in with Lilly just when people were giving their opinions about the latest scandal to hit town. Needless to say, he didn’t take it very well.” With the mention of Lilly’s name, Peter’s expression fell. Yet he quickly changed it back so that Sally would not see him breaking. He didn’t know that she his sudden change in expression had gone unnoticed. “Thanks for telling me, Sal. Then again, I’m not surprised about the reactions.” “Well, you don’t have to worry much. You forget that this is Summer Bay. There’ll be another scandal next week and yours will be forgotten in an instant.” “Thanks, Sal. It’s very comforting to know that” he replied sarcastically. “Peter-“ “Look, Sal, I know what you’re trying to do here. To be honest, just stop it. There’s nothing you can do. Nothing that anyone can say or do is going to change things. I’m in here because I killed Tracey. If I hadn’t done so, I wouldn’t have been denied bail. Even the judge thinks I’m a threat to society. And, to be honest, I’m starting to think of myself as one too. So, really, there’s nothing much you can do. I am going to be found guilty for Tracey’s murder and I am going to pay the price for it. So, why don’t you just go home? You’re only wasting your time here talking to me. The only thing keeping me sane is the fact that there is a possibility that Lilly is mine. I can deal with people hating me. I can deal with anything that people have thrown at me so far. I can deal with going to jail for the rest of my life. I can deal with being branded as a murderer. What I can’t deal with is not knowing if Lilly is mine or not.” And with that, he rose from his chair and was escorted back to his cell, leaving her to mull over what he had just said. “Sal?” “Yes?” “Can you do me a favour?” “Sure, if I can.” “Can you please tell my family not to come and visit me anymore? Can you tell them that I don’t trust myself anymore and I don’t want to do something that I will regret?” She hesitated but knew that he wouldn’t leave if he didn’t get his answer. “Yes, I will.” “Thank you.” And with that, he gave her a final parting smile and returned to his cell. She sat there for a while until Clare came in and asked if she was alright. She nodded and left. Unbeknownst to her, Clare had heard the entire conversation. She left the room and headed back into her office. She couldn’t bear to tell Peter the truth about the paternity test. He had said it himself. He was giving up hope. And, at the rate things were going, she couldn’t find any evidence that showed that he was framed. She knew what she had to do and she had to do it now. It was her fault. The least she could do was to tell him the truth. And so, she exited the office and headed towards the prison cells where Peter was. She saw him lying on the bed, staring at the ceiling. She cleared her throat and he sat up and looked at her. The guard unlocked the door and she braced herself for the task at hand. She entered the prison cell and shut the door behind her. Before she spoke to him, however, she asked the guard if she could have a few minutes in private with Peter and he exited. She took a deep breath and said, “There’s something I need to tell you.” Preview: Clare tells Peter the truth. How will he react? Will she tell Drew? How would be react? Something happens that changes the lives of a few people in the Bay.
Traceve Posted January 11, 2007 Report Posted January 11, 2007 Oh no.. Clare dont tell him!! He has enough on his plate at the moment which is quite a big plate! and Sal I just wanna hug her!
swfc Posted January 12, 2007 Report Posted January 12, 2007 Next chapter: “What’s wrong?” Pete asked as he saw Claire’s worried expression. As Claire took a deep breath she remembered the last time when Pete flew off the handle at the thought of Lilly not being his. She knew that with Pete definitely not being the father, he would for sure lose it with her. She looked at Pete as she braced herself to see his reaction. With only the both of them in that cell, she was able to place her hands on top of Pete’s. “Peter, before Tracey was killed, I went to the doctors to have Lilly’s Paternity results done.” At that moment, Pete suddenly pulled his hands away from Claire’s as he stood up and moved away from the table. “I’m sorry…” Claire said. The moment she said those words, she saw him drop to the floor and placed his head on his arms. Tears were falling down his face. Claire tried to walk over to him and comfort him but he just yelled, “Get out now!” She had to do what he said; she didn’t want to put him in any more pain. Claire left his prison cell looking back at a very distraught man who looked as though his life had just ended. Claire walked back to the main part of the station as Peter’s voice saying, “Get out now!” played over and over in her head. She didn’t know what to do. She was confused as she had hurt Pete so much. She couldn’t bear to see Pete like that but she didn’t want to lie to him either. It would’ve hurt him more if he ever found out that she had held it back from him. The only thing she didn’t want to do at that moment was to bump into Drew, Dan or Leah. As she was walking back, however, she saw Drew waiting outside talking to Jack. Just as Claire tried to turn back she heard, “Claire?!” Claire walked over to Drew and Jack. “Have you seen dad?” “Yeah, I think you better come in my office.” Drew and Claire both entered the office and Drew sat down waiting for her to speak. “I went to see Pete today and I told him something that he didn’t take too well.” “What was it?” Drew asked Just as Claire was about to tell Drew, however, Jack burst into the room. “Claire, can I speak to you now? It’s urgent.” Claire walked outside and she closed the door of her office only to hear Jack say, "Noelene Baker is dead.” Claire looked at Jack in shock as she said, “What the hell?!” “I think you better go over to Dan’s place.” Claire just looked at Jack before slowly moving her eyes towards Drew who was sitting in her office, oblivious to the fact his grandma was dead. She didn’t know what to do. She could either go in and break the news to Drew herself or let Dan and Leah tell him themselves. Before she could make a decision, however, Drew had already received a phone call from Dan. “Claire, we have to go!” Drew yelled as he dragged her out of the station. “Dan said it’s grandma!” Claire followed Drew and they both arrived at the house where they found Dan and Leah standing there and hugging each other as two officers were interviewing them. “Dan, where is she?” Dan looked up at Drew as tears flooded down his face, “She’s gone. She’s dead.” Drew fell to the ground in shock; Claire leaned down, putting her arms around him, comforting him while he cried in her arms. The four of them were just sitting in silence in the living room when Jack entered the house. He called Claire over for a quick word and she walked over to him and they headed outside. “Murder. She was poisoned.” Jack said quietly. “Are you sure?” “Positive. The autopsy report came back. There was poison was found in her blood stream.” “But that could have come from anything.” Claire said trying not to believe the fact that Noelene was murdered. “Claire, there was a glass next to her body. There were traces of highly dangerous poison in there as well. With Pete in jail and now his mother being murdered, I think he is being set up.” “I think you should tell them.” “Yeah, ok.” Just as Claire was about to walk in Jack said, “What about Pete?” Claire just didn’t know what to say. She just looked at Jack before walking back into the house to be with Dan, Leah and Drew. Preview: Who blames Pete for Noelene’s Death?
Lilone Posted January 12, 2007 Report Posted January 12, 2007 Teaser: He didn’t even feel the pain. In fact, he felt nothing at all. All his emotions were jumbled up to the point that he couldn’t feel anything. And that only made him hit the wall harder. He continued hitting until sweat dripped down his brow, across his forehead and down his torso wetting his shirt which had already become see through. He didn’t even notice the blood trickling down his arms and mixing with the sweat already on his arms. He kept hitting and hitting until he could hit no more and screamed in frustration. Before he even knew it, he had fallen on his bed in agony. The pain finally sinking in.
