I DON'T like Kelly! and Ash one little bit! *Go die*. Get eaten by Zombie freaks!

I'm using my psychic powers to guess that Kelly and Ash aren't very popular... Don't worry, Jack and Martha will be returning to the bay before K&A can do any more damage...

One last chapter for today... because THAT person will be returning home soon and so I might not be on again. Can you believe that they didn't even have a shower yesterday... anyway I'm rambling...

ChapterFiftyThree:

Matilda looked at herself in the mirror as she brushed her hair. For the first time in a while, she smiled at the person looking back at her. Things were finally starting to look up for her, but there was only one person standing in her way.

“Matilda… breakfast!” yelled Beth from the kitchen.

She rolled her eyes and quickly tied up her hair.

“Sorry, but I told Rocco I’d meet him at the diner for breakfast,” she told Beth as she grabbed her bag off the couch.

“I thought I told you that weren’t to see that boy!” Beth said angrily.

“You can’t stop me Mum,” Matilda snapped. “It’s my life and I just want to be happy. And right now. Rocco makes me happy. If you took the chance to get to know him you would see that.”

Tony walked up behind Beth and started to rub her shoulders. “Listen Beth, maybe Maddie has a point. And it’s not like you to judge people so quickly.”

“Tony! I can’t believe you are going against me on this!” Beth shouted.

“I just want you and Matilda to get along,” he said softly. “After everything that’s happened this year, it doesn’t seem right for you to start pushing her away.”

Beth shook her head in frustration. “I want you to go straight to school and then straight back here. You won’t be hanging out with anyone the rate that you’re going young lady.”

“God, I don’t believe you!” Matilda huffed. “See ya later Tony.” As Matilda slammed the door, Tony looked over at Beth and shook his head.

Matilda met up with Rocco, who had been waiting patiently outside the diner for her.

“Hey you,’ he said grabbing her hand and kissing her on the cheek.

“Hey yourself,” she smiled. “Sorry I didn’t get your message last night, I ended up falling asleep.”

“Oh, it’s okay,” he said softly. “I wasn’t expecting you to, but I thought I’d try anyway.”

“So did you end up going for a walk?”

“Yeah. It was good actually. Cleared my head a bit,” he looked down at the ground as he remembered the scene with Johnny. “I ran into Nina and we ended up having a really good talk.”

“Yeah, she’s such a good person to talk to isn’t she?” said Matilda. “I feel like I can tell her anything.”

“Yeah, she was pretty quiet though, I did most of the talking which is not like me…” Rocco said.

“I guess maybe she’s just really shy or something?” said Matilda. “She has kinda kept her distance.”

Rocco nodded. “Umm, yeah. She kinda feels like a third wheel when she’s around us. I mean I can understand that. I asked her if she wanted to bring her mystery man and she said that there wasn’t anyone in the picture.”

Matilda frowned. “Really?” she said puzzled. “It’s just the way she was talking the other day… I guess I just assumed that she liked someone.”

Rocco smiled at her. He loved how she seemed so innocent and sweet. His thoughts were interrupted when he saw Johnny walking towards them.

“Hey Roc” said Johnny cheerfully. “How’s it goin?”

Rocco frowned and subtly stood in front of Matilda in case Johnny tried anything. “Good. I’m good,” said Rocco.

Johnny looked over at Matilda and grinned. “Hi,” he said to her. Matilda was a little scared of him and tried hard to not to look at him in the eyes. She smiled civilly and said a quiet ‘hello’.

“Have you seen Nina today?” Johnny asked him.

“No.” Rocco said meekly.

“Don’t worry then, I’ll see if I can get hold of her on her phone.” Johnny pushed him playfully. “Good to see ya mate,” he sniggered as he walked into the diner.

“Why was Johnny looking for Nina?” asked Matilda.

“Oh I think it might be something to do with her brother” Rocco lied.

They chatted for awhile and Johnny came back out and was standing around with his mates kicking the soccer ball around.

As Matilda and Rocco were about to enter the diner, they turned around and saw Nina hurrying up the sand towards them. She waved at them frantically, but she wasn’t looking where she was going and she ended up crashing into Ric who was coming the other way.

They saw Nina fall to the ground, and looked on as Ric helped Nina stand up.

“I’m so sorry” said Ric.

“It’s okay, it was totally my fault,” Nina laughed. “Are you okay?”

“Yeah…” Ric smiled as Nina brushed herself off and looked up at him.

“Umm, thanks for helping me up I guess…” she said grinning at him.

Matilda watched on in interest as Ric and Nina continued their small talk.

“Maddie what are you thinking?” Rocco asked. “The same thing I’m thinking maybe?”

“Maybe?” she said cheekily. “I think that I might have a brilliant idea…”

Matilda wasn’t the only one watching Nina and Ric with interest. Johnny gritted his teeth as he saw Ric with his hands on Nina. He didn’t know why, but he was upset. He wanted her and he couldn’t stand the thought of her being with someone else. Not at all.

“You alright Johnny? ” Karl asked him. “We’re going to head down for surf now. You comin?

Johnny snapped back to reality. “I’m fine. You guys go on a head, I’m just going to chill up here for a bit. I’ve got some business to take care of…”
