Thanks for all yor comments, you guys are absolutely wonderful! Sorry no J&M yet, but... the plot is starting to thicken.

ChapterFiftySix:

Rocco held Matilda’s hand as they walked down the school hall. People were whispering but that didn’t bother either of them.

Nina slammed her locker shut. She started walking to go to class, but her books fell out of her bag and scattered all over the floor. She sighed angrily and bent down to pick them up.

“Hey are you okay?” Rocco asked bending down to help her.

“Yup,” she said sharply.

Rocco frowned. “You don’t look very happy that’s all.”

“Are you the sad police or something?” she snapped.

“Hey, Rocco was just helping,” Matilda said worried. “Has something happened?”

Nina rubbed her head. “I said it’s nothing. Look I’m sorry, I shouldn’t of snapped like that. Things are fine, I’ve just got a headache. That’s all it is.”

”It’s cool…” said Rocco. “Are you coming to class?”

“Yeah I’ll be there in a minute,” she said trying to act happier. “I might just take a pill first. I’ll catch up later.”

“Alright” Rocco said grabbing Matilda’s hand. They walked down the hall both suspicious of her behaviour.

“She was okay this morning outside the diner,” said Matilda. “I wonder what could’ve happened between now and then?”

“I dunno?” said Rocco. “We should just let her cool down, she might fill us in later?”

The hallway had cleared and Nina opened her locker again. She lifted up a pile of her books and checked to see if her gun was still there. She quickly pulled it out and put it in her bag.

“You didn’t have to walk me right to my class Macca!” Cassie smiled.

“Yeah, well I wanted to,” he said hugging her. “Like I would want to let you out of my sight for a second?”

“Macca! This is a school remember?” she giggled. “If Sal or Mr Armstrong catch you here…”

“Well you are totally worth it!” He nuzzled her neck and they laughed hysterically.

Nina was startled by their entrance. She nervously tidied her hair and straightened her uniform, before shutting her locker.

“Hey,” Macca said putting on serious face.

“Hey” she said trying to avoid them.

“Hi, Nina” Cassie said cheerfully.

Macca let go of Cassie and approached her. “Listen, Nina, I was just wondering. What are you doing tonight?”

Nina and Cassie looked at him suspiciously. “I’m busy. Why?” said Nina.

“Well, umm me and Cassie volunteered to help set up the decorations and stuff for the party at the surf club in the weekend. Maybe you could give us a hand. Nobody’s too keen to help us and it’s a huge job.”

“Right, and… why are you asking me?”

“Because we’re friends right?” asked Macca. “And I know that you have a much better interior decorating sense than I do.”

He had finally managed a smile out of her. “Alright, when exactly?” she said.

“How about this afternoon. Say around 5ish?” Macca said happily.

“Sounds good, but I’m meeting Matilda and Rocco at eight so I can only help till then.”

“Cool. See you then.” Macca said as she walked off.

Cassie looked at him. “I thought you said you didn’t know her?” she said in an accusing tone.

“Look, Cas, it’s complicated” he tried to explain. “We know each other from way back. I thought maybe you guys could be friends you know? She really is a nice girl?”

“Okay, I mean I could use the friends at the moment,” Cassie said. “But I want to know exactly how you know her. And you’re not leaving until you tell me.”

Nina was about to walk into class when her phone rang. She quickly answered it before she drew any attention to herself.

“Yeah, did you take of care of him?” she whispered. She rolled her eyes as she listened to the other person talk. “Well… Good, as long as Holden is out of action for a few more days… I have a pick up to do on Saturday night and he can’t get in the way of that. Him and his wife will be back from the city soon and he could muck up everything. I can’t risk that, not now… it’s all on.”

Next up: Jack and Martha return from their trip and Macca comes close to revealing Nina's secret to Cassie.

Thanks guys!

I am soooo so so so sorry about what's going to happen to Jack... but I promise it's shortlived. It's for dramatic effect only. I actually wish I'd done it to Ash now... lol. :P

ChapterFiftySeven:

“Well Macca?” Cassie asked him. “Are you going to tell me or what?”

“There’s nothing to tell” he insisted. “She’s an old friend that’s all.”

“How did you meet?”

Macca thought about it for a minute. He didn’t want to lie to Cassie, but he knew the consequences if anyone found out about Nina.

“Alright, look…” he said comforting her. “Back when I was starting out on my driving job, she helped me out a bit. I got into trouble with a few guys and she sorted it out for me. She helped me back then and she was a really good friend. You can’t judge her until you know her.”

“Macca, she didn’t give you the drugs did she?” Cassie asked.

Macca looked around and tried to think of something to say. “She’s not a drug dealer Cas.”

“She did didn’t she?” Cassie yelled at him. “How do you call that ‘helping’?”

“You don’t understand…” Macca said pleading with her. “She saved my life, and I owe her that. You just don’t know who she is.”

“Tell me Macca!”

“I can’t Cas.”

“Macca?” She stood there with her arms crossed.

“Alright. Alright, but you can’t say anything to anybody…”

Jack was still asleep well into the afternoon. Kelly had only stayed for about an hour. Martha liked her, she had seemed really nice and she had some great stories about Jack. At first Martha had been angry, but after the talk with Kelly, whatever happened the night before seemed like a distant memory. Jack had been asleep for the longest time.

Martha sat down next to him and watched him sleeping. He looked so innocent and cute. She nudged him to try and wake him up, but he only moaned and stirred slightly. She sighed and looked at her watch. She wished that he’d wake up so they could do something. She nudged him again, but there was still no reaction from him, just a soft moan. She shook him a little bit harder and pushed him over on his side. When he rolled over Martha gasped at the blood stained sheets…

Jack held the towel on his nose. “It’s not stopping Jack!” Martha said worried. “Maybe we should go to a hospital?”

“Martha, it’s just a nose bleed. It’ll be fine” Jack assured her.

“Jack! There’s blood everywhere!” she screamed.

“Martha, please. Just calm down.” He took the towel off his nose and looked at the amount of blood on there. Even he knew that was abnormal.

“I’d feel more comfortable if we headed home today” Martha said running her hands through his hair. “Being here is great and everything, but at least if we’re at home, I can get Tony to hassle you about seeing a doctor.”

“I’m fine…” Jack said rolling his eyes. “But I agree. I’m actually starting to miss the bay. Let’s head home eh?”

Martha drove as carefully as she could. She didn’t want to do anything that might hurt Jack. They were both quiet. Jack sat in the passenger seat with his eyes closed, trying to remember what had happened the night before. The last thing he remembered was talking to Ash, then talking to Nathan. For some reason, Jake kept flashing through his mind, but Jack couldn’t put his finger on what had happened and how he was involved.

As they passed the ‘Welcome to Summer Bay” sign, he felt suddenly sick. “Mac, can you pull over?” he gasped.

She was extremely worried. She had never seen him sick like this and she desperately wanted to get him some help. Jack got out of the car and started vomiting on the side of the road. Martha ran out to see if he was okay. Just as she got to him, he clutched his stomach and fell to the ground.

Next: Rachel makes a discovery about Jack's condition, Johnny confronts Rocco, and Ric confides in Nina.
