^Oooohh, so observant! I will reveal in the next chapter... Thankies for all your comments! :)

For now though here is the summary... Sorry but I'm not very good at summarising, so please forgive me!

Summary especially for you SfanS, but also for anyone else who might find it interesting...

Matilda befriends a new student called Nina. She is reluctant to talk about her past, but is grateful that Matilda is giving her a chance considering her bad reputation.

Jack finds out that Nina and her brother Jake are dangerous criminals and he warns everyone about them at the diner. Apparently, Nina held a gun on another student at her old school. We later find out that Nina keeps a gun in her bag and in her locker at school.

Jake agrees to help Johnny with some "jobs". It's also noted that Jake is on parole and has to check in at the police station. When Nina visits McGrath, Jack is a little suspcious about McGrath's niceness towards her.

At first Jack and Martha are fighting over Jack's long hours at the station. They eventually make up and things are okay. Jack is offered the chance to up Detective's training, but he has to prove himself first.

Nina stands up for Rocco when some guys have a go at him. They have very similar backgrounds and bond instantly. They are also connected by the fact that their brothers know each other. Johnny lays into Rocco after Rocco tells him he wants out of the gang. Nina takes him to hospital and Sally convinces Rocco to stay with her at the van park house. After being questioned by Jack about Rocco's injuries, Nina calls someone and tells them that she wants Jack "out of the way."

Cassie has another go at Matilda at the diner and she runs off in tears. She and Nina bond more. Matilda tells how bad she feels about herself and Nina confides that she once felt like that as well. At the surf club, Macca recognises Nina, but they both pretend that they don't know each other. He confronts her outside, but she warns him not to tell anyone about her or he "will regret it".

Beth questions Brad about Nina being at the school and the safety of the other students. He tells her that there is a good explantion and for her to take her concerns to the education department.

Nina and Jake rob the hospital of some drugs (they also take something else, but that will be revealed later on) Nina fakes a seizure of sorts to cause a diversion after Johnny tips off the police in order to test them. To avoid suspicion, Jake gets Rocco to steal the drugs for him. Jake is frustrated when Johnny won't reveal the plans for the "big" job. Ric and Matilda have a heart to heart about moving on from the past... however deep down he wants to tell her how he feels about her.

Rocco and Matilda reveal their feelings for each other at the wharf  And decide to take the plunge together. At the same time, Johnny confronts Nina and tells her he wants to be with her. They kiss, but she pulls away as she can't let anything happen between them.

Jack questions Johnny at the station and Johnny makes a smart comment about Martha. Jack gets angry and attacks him and McGrath suspends Jack from police duties until further notice. Jack drowns his sorrows at Noah's but returns home to Martha and they decide to go away for a few days so they can finally have some time alone together.

Jake makes up with Johnny, but later becomes suspicious of what is going on between Johnny and his sister. He warns her to stay away from him. Jack hears the three of them talking about the "next job" and is determined to find out what they are up to.

Beth finds out about Matilda and Rocco and is absolutely livid. She bans Tilly from seeing him, but Tilly thinks that Beth is being VERY unreasonable. Johnny confronts Nina about their feelings for each other again. She has a moment of weakness, but then tells him to leave her alone.

Ric finds out about Matilda and Rocco and is devestated. He tries to be angry at Rocco, but he eventually confides his feelings to Sally. He and Rocco agree to start again as mates.

Beth is still angry about Matilda being with Rocco. Everyone is telling her to give him a chance but she is not listening to reason. Two guys from school try to attack Nina, but she manages to defend herself.

Jack and Martha arrive in the city. Jack goes to see a Detective (Nathan Owens) about Nina and Jake, but he doesn't get many answers. Later he and Martha have a romantic dinner and a hot air balloon ride over the city. Back at the hotel room, Ash arrives with some info for Jack. He believes that Nathan is a corrupt cop. When Martha leaves to go for a swim, Ash persuades Jack to go to a bar with him. Jack is reluctant, but goes anyway. He sees an old friend of his (Kelly) and also sees Nathan at the bar. Later Jack is VERY sick and Kelly takes him back to his room. Martha opens the door as Jack is kissing Kelly on the cheek. Martha is angry, but Kelly explains the situation and Martha invites her to stay for breakfast.

Johnny asks Nina and Rocco to help rob the surf club after the party in the weekend. Rocco says he wants out, but Johnny is not taking no for an answer and threatens to hurt Matilda. Nina says she will help, but only if Johnny leaves Rocco and Matilda alone.

Rocco and Matilda decide to set Nina and Ric up on a date. Johnny is not pleased when he sees Nina being friendly with Ric outside the diner. He talks to her about the robbery and tells her there is a change of plan. The conversation then turns to thier kiss and Nina gets angry and storms off.

Macca sees Nina at the school and asks if she will help set up the decorations for the party with him and Cassie. Nina agrees and Cassie demands to know how Macca knows her. Nina gets a phone call about Jack, and insists he will need to be out of the way for a few days.

Martha is having trouble waking up Jack. His nose is bleeding profusely but he brushes it off as nothing. They both agree to return home and as they are driving Jack gets out to vomit and ends up collapsing!

Next: Rachel makes a discovery about Jack's condition, Johnny confronts Rocco, and Ric confides in Nina.

Phew! Sorry if that was too long, I think that covered everything... hope this helps! :D

I'm sorry! I will try not to hurt Jack too much... please forgive me though!

Okay well in this chapter there is a lot of medical mumbo jumbo... some of it is real, but some of it has been added for some 'dramatic effect' and plus I am no expert on these sorts of things so I've tried to write it as best that i can. There is references to drugs and stuff like that, so if there are younger readers, I'm just warning ya!

Chapter FiftyEight:

Tony ran down the ever familiar hospital corridor. He saw Martha sitting at the end of the hallway, her face buried in her hands.

“Martha!” he gasped rushing up to her. “What’s happened? Where is he?”

Martha looked up and wiped the tears from her eyes. “He’s in there with the doctors,” she sobbed. “I can’t believe this is happening.”

“It’s alright love,” Tony said putting his arm around her. “Jack’s tough, he’ll be okay.” They sat there for a while watching the clock. Tony paced up and down the hallway, while Martha explained what had happened. Finally Dr Young and Rachel came out of the room. “I can take it from here,” Rachel said to him as he left. She looked forlornly at Tony and Martha.

“This is getting to be a regular occurrence isn’t it Rachel?” Tony said trying to ease the tension in the air. “Please tell us that he is okay.”

Rachel smiled. “Jack is stabilised for now,” she said in her serious doctor tone. “Martha, we need to know if Jack has taken any pills or medication lately. Something that may have caused him to be sick?”

“Not that I know of?” Martha said worried.

Rachel nodded sympathetically. “We sent his blood away for some tests. We had to do quite a few tox screens to find out what it was, but we finally have. Jack’s blood work came back positive for a drug called epinephrine.”

“What’s that?” Tony asked.

“Basically it’s a form of adrenaline. It’s a prescription drug that’s used in hospitals as an anesthetic,” Rachel explained. ‘From what we can gather Jack’s taken some kind of methamphetamine that has this drug as one of the ingredients. It’s become a very harmful drug cocktail.”

Martha gasped. “No, no, no. Jack does not do drugs!” she shouted.

“Was there any time at all where someone may have slipped it in his drink? His food? Anything like that Martha?” Rachel asked.

“Oh my god.” Martha broke down. “Jack went out last night with some old police buddies. He was at some bar. It was after that that he got really sick.”

“Okay, at least we are on the right track” said Rachel.

“Hang on,” Tony interrupted. “Aren’t pills like that meant to give you a high though? Are you saying that Jack has overdosed on something?”

“From what we got from the blood screen, Jack had a very small trace amount of the drug. Probably just enough to make him sick and stay in bed for a few days. The drug suppresses the immune system, and stimulates certain nerves and muscle groups, like the ones that induce vomiting and seizures.” Rachel took a deep breath before she delivered the rest of the medical talk. “The problem is that epinephrine binds itself to cells in the liver, which has caused the side affects to be much more severe in Jack because of his liver transplant.”

“Oh my god” sobbed Martha. “What does that mean Rachel? What’s going to happen to him?”

The look on Rachel’s face made Tony worry. She didn’t want to tell them, but they had to prepare themselves for the worst.

“Because the dosage has affected his liver, it’s raised his blood pressure.”

“That explains his nose bleeds right?” Martha said scared.

“On the one hand yes,” said Rachel. “However, it is more complicated than that. I am sorry to say that this drug makes it’s way from the liver to the lungs and heart, and because of the elevated blood pressure, Jack may go into cardiac arrest or respiratory failure at any time. Once we get the drug fully out of his system he should be out of the clear.”

“But you’ve pumped his stomach haven’t you?” asked Tony.

“Yes,” said Rachel. “But the drug has stimulated a natural production of adrenalin in Jack’s body. We need to wait until that returns to normal levels.”

Martha felt sick. Her legs almost gave way, but Tony quickly grabbed her and held her tightly.

“That’s the worst case scenario,” Rachel said trying to comfort them. “Jack is strong. He will get through this.”

Tony was shaking his head in disbelief, holding Martha close to him.

“Rachel’s right” he whispered to her. “That boy can fight off anything. He won’t leave us Martha. I won’t let him”

Martha cried into Tony’s shoulder as Rachel told them it was okay to go into his room.

She left them and walked over to the main desk where Julie was organising some files. “How’s Jack doing?” Julie asked her.

“He’s stabilised, but we’ll need to keep an eye on him.” Rachel said sadly.

“Poor guy…” Julie said sympathetically. “As if he hasn’t had enough bad things happen to him this year. Oh Rachel, Nina Rogers final bloodwork came back. I’ve organised for her to come in tomorrow for a check up.”

“You are wonderful Julie,” Rachel smiled as she opened the envelope. She read it carefully, but she was not prepared for what the results were.

“What’s wrong?” Julie asked seeing the look on her face.

“No, this doesn’t make any sense,” said Rachel. She flipped open Jack’s chart and compared the two notes carefully.

‘What’s wrong Rachel?” Julie said again, more worried than before.

“The second blood test that we ordered for Nina…” Rachel stammered. “Nina Rogers blood work shows a trace of epinephrine. She’s taken the exact same drugs as Jack Holden. Their tox screen is identical.”
