Thanks guys for your comments. This chapter is a bit crappy because I had no idea how to write it... writer's block sucks... so sorry in advance.

ChapterSeventyEight:

McGrath rushed over to the door and slammed it shut.

“Jack, this is not what it looks like,” he tried to explain.

Jack shook his head. “You’ve been covering for them all long haven’t you?”

McGrath sighed and looked over at his niece. She smiled sadly at him before closing her eyes and standing up in front of Jack.

“Whatever you think of me and my brother, that’s not how Darren is,” she said softly.

“Well I think its pretty obvious how you’ve managed to get away with everything!” Jack snapped.

“Holden!” McGrath said stepping between them. “Look we’re not actually related. You can check it out. I’ve just had an interest with Jake and Nina since they were kids because I’ve wanted to help them. That’s all.”

“She said Uncle Darren…” Jack argued.

“We’ve become very close over the years Jack,” said McGrath. “Those two kids are practically family.”

“That’s bull,” Jack shouted. “I’m going to the superintendent on this. And after that, they won’t be able to get away with anything…”

Nina rolled her eyes and made her way for the door.

“You had your mind made up about me before you even knew me Constable,” she said turning to him, “and you know what? That was a big mistake. Connections or no connections. You’ll never be able to get me.”

She smiled callously at him before she walked out the door, but her face turned sour when Nathan appeared and blocked her in.

“Beth Hunter and Irene Roberts are here for Belle and Matilda,” he told McGrath. “They want some answers…”

“Right, well there’s been a bit of development Nato,” McGrath said nervously. “Take Miss Rogers there into the interview room, and I’ll come and debrief you in a minute.”

Nathan looked between them worried and confused. “Sure Senior,” he said grabbing Nina’s arm. “What have you done this time?” he asked her as they walked out.

Beth saw Nina being escorted out by Nathan and stormed over to them. “How did I know that you would have something to do with this!” Beth yelled at her.

Nina said nothing. She simply grinned, knowing that her mere presence was infuriating Beth. Nathan quickly took her away and pushed her into one of the interview rooms.

“Darren what’s going on?” Irene asked as he came out of the office.

“Will they be charged? What’s going to happen to them?”

“Calm down please Mrs Roberts,” he hushed. “There’s been some new information that’s come to light and we need to confirm that with Belle and Matilda. But once we do, they will be free to go. No charges.”

Irene put her hand on her chest and heaved a huge sigh of relief. “Thank God,’ she exclaimed.

“Well what were they doing with drugs in the first place?” Beth said sulkily.

“That’s why I brought them in here,” Jack interrupted. “to seei f we could sort that out. You guys do understand why I had to do this…”

“Of course Jack,” Tony said supportively.

“We appreciate it too Jack,” McGrath told him.

“So what new information do you have?” Jack asked as they walked to the desk.

“I’m sorry, but I can’t disclose that kind of information at this point… But there is one thing. You can’t let anyone here know that Nina and I are connected. Not until we’ve spoken to the super anyway. Nathan will be handling the case instead of me from now on.”

Jack nodded as McGrath walked into the interview room. “Sure…”

“Honestly, all you have to do is tell them that the drugs were mine and I’ll handle it from there,” she whispered.

“Nina, you weren’t even there!” said Matilda. “We were the ones that had them. You shouldn’t get into trouble because of us. We need to take responsibility for our actions.”

“Look, even a minor drug charge will hinder all your chances and opportunities in the future. It will make things very difficult. I have a charge sheet as long as my arm. It’s nothing so just let me take the blame. Seriously, I know what I’m doing.”

Matilda shook her head. She was in awe of the girl that sat in front of her. She looked over at Belle who was just as scared as she was.

“Alright then,” she relented. “What exactly do we say?”

Martha pushed the play button down on the stereo next to the bar.

I cried to my daddy on the telephone,

how long now?

Until the clouds unroll and you come home,

the line went.

But the shadows still remain since your descent,

your descent.

“Will you be alright to finish up?” Alf asked her. “Morag wants me to pick her up and take her down to the station. See if we can sort out what’s happened.”

Martha smiled cheerfully at him as she counted the cash. “Oh I’ll be fine Grandad. Don’t you worry.”

“It was a good night tonight wasn’t it?” Alf smiled back. “I’m very proud of you Martha.”

“Thanks Grandad. Now you go. We can come in early tomorrow and clean up the rest of the mess. In fact, with the takings that we got from tonight, we can probably hire someone else to do it…”

“Alright love, but don’t stay too long…”

“Go Grandad! Jack will be back soon to pick me up… so don’t you worry about a thing!”

A drowning sorrow floods the deepest grief,

how long now?

Until the weather change condemns belief,

how long now?

When the night watchman lets in the thief,

what's wrong now?

Johnny and the boys sat in the shadows and watched as Alf left the surf club and drove away.

“You guys all ready?” he whispered.

They all nodded and grinned at him.

“Good. You guys know the drill…”

As soon as everything was quiet and the night was completely still, they all charged towards the surf club.

Boom! Cha! Hey!

The saints are coming, the saints are coming

I say no matter how I try, I realise there's no reply.
