Thanks guys for your awesome comments! :) I am so sorry I took ages to update though!

ChapterNinetyThree:

Jack opened the door quietly, hoping that Martha was still asleep. He heaved a huge sigh of dejection as he shut it. He felt as though things were getting on top of him now, and maybe, just maybe, he was on the verge of losing his grip on reality. He sat down on the couch and looked at his hands almost fearfully. He would do anything to protect Martha… but he’d never felt that rush of violence before now.

“Hey, where did you go?” Martha said managing a slight smile as she came out of the bathroom. “I woke up and you were gone?”

“I just went out,” he said sullenly. “You know to get some fresh air.”

Martha nodded and casually pulled on her Noah’s uniform.

“What are you doing?” Jack asked her shocked out of his skin.

“I have a shift tonight…” she frowned.

“You’re not actually thinking of going though?”

She walked over and sat down next to him. She gently placed her hand on his chest. “I need to face this Jack. I need to prove to those losers that they can’t get away with hurting me. I’m not going play the victim like they want me to…”

“Martha, maybe you should have the night off, I’m sure that Beth and Alf won’t mind covering…”

“Jack, I can’t ask them to do that. I need to do this…”

He looked at her and saw the scared but sincere look in her eyes. He looked down and held both of her hands in his.

“Alright, but you’re going to have to put up with me as your bodyguard the whole night,” he smiled.

Martha grinned. “I was hoping that you’d say that…”

The bar was unusually busy, but the cheerful, jovial ambiance had quite an effect on their mood. The surf club was looking in a much better state, and that probably the reason most people were there – to survey the damage and have a big old gossip.

“God, I have never felt so rushed of my feet!’ Martha said wiping down the bar.

‘Well, at least you’re smiling,” Jack told her.

Martha hadn’t even noticed. But having Jack there meant everything in the world to her. “Well in that case, I’d say it would be the effects of that chocolate cheese cake!”

As he entered, he casually looked around the room for a seat before finally deciding on the empty stool next to Jack.

Martha gave him a polite smile as he approached the bar. “Hi, what can I get you?” she asked him.

“Oh, just a beer thanks…” he said smiling back at her. ‘The usual…”

“I’ve never seen you in here before?” she said searching for a glass. “Are you new in town?”

“Yeah, you could say that,’ he grinned. “But this is nice little town. I’m starting to like it here…”

“Yeah it is,” Jack said turning to him. “But I’m biased. I met my beautiful wife here, so I’ll always love Summer Bay.”

“Yeah,” he said looking over at Martha as she prepared his drink.

“Umm I’m Jack Holden,” Jack said offering his hand.

“Karl… Karl Wallace,” he smiled.

“Jack Holden? You’re the cop right?”

Jack laughed and took a sip of his drink. “Most of the time… But at the moment I’m being employed by Miss Martha here as her personal bodyguard.” He paused waiting for a light hearted reaction from the man, but he didn’t get one. “There was a break in here, and I didn’t want Martha to be alone while she did her shift. I mean there are a few whack jobs out there…”

“Well aren’t you just the protective husband…’ Karl joked. “Yeah, you just gotta wonder what some people are thinking…”

Martha was glad when she finally got home. Even though she hadn’t thought about the robbery, it was nice to sit on the couch after her shift and cuddle up with Jack in front of the telly. Jack sat there immersed in the footy that was on, but Martha could not stop thinking about the guy that had befriended Jack.

“That guy you were talking to at the bar…” she said as if she were trying to calculate something, “he seemed… nice didn’t he?”

Jack nodded and put his arm around her. “Yeah… I guess. Why are you thinking of asking him out?”

“Jack!” she laughed hitting him jokingly. “No, it’s just… there was something about him… like… did you get the feeling that you’d met him before?”

“Kinda?” Jack mumbled. “I think he was just being friendly though.”

“Hmm, he said he was new in town…” Martha said thinking.

“Hmmm,” Jack mumbled again.

Martha snuggled deeper into Jack’s arms and closed her eyes. “If we see him again Jack…we should invite him over for dinner or something…”

That’s a really good line, sets the atmosphere. :)

:o Thought I'd commented but obviously not!

Jack and Martha are so cute, Jack was her bodyguard  I want to read more fluff! They are just sooo adorable! That guy was weird though, I would not go near him with a stick.

Update soon Adia, great chapter!
