Thanks for your really nice comments guys. :)

This chapter is dedicated to Becky and Emma, because they were sick and I promised it to them last week... sorry it's late guys! I hope you enjoy it anyway... just don't read the ending...

ChapterNinetyFour:

“You know what would be a good idea…” Jack said leaning over and turning off the television. “Maybe, you and I could have dinner sometime. Just the two of us?”

“We have dinner together every night,” Martha smiled.

“Yeah, but I mean a special dinner. I feel bad about ruining our trip to the city and I just want to make it up to you.”

“Anything where you shower me with glowing affection is fine Mr Holden,” she teased.

Jack grinned and held her hands in his. “Martha, with all that’s been going on lately… I couldn’t bear it if anything ever happened to you. When I found you in the bar… Well I know how you must’ve felt when I was in the hospital… If you want to talk…”

Martha frowned. Hearing Jack talk like this brought the angry and sad memories flooding back. She shivered as she tried to block it out.

“Jack…” she said sadly. “I just, I don’t know if the reality of everything has hit me yet. Everything has just happened so fast, one after the other. Just please forgive me if I get too emotional and stuff…”

Jack smiled and kissed her forehead. “And stuff…’ he said laughing. “As long as you forgive me for being the jealous over protective husband.”

Martha giggled and stood up. ‘You want a drink?” she said heading to the kitchen.

Jack reluctantly let her go. “Nah, I’m good. I think I might head off to bed. I think I might get an early start tomorrow.”

“What?” she said surprised. ‘Did Murphy reinstate you?”

“Ah, no,” he sighed. “I thought I might do a bit of private investigating. All the crime that’s going on… it’s gotta be linked to the gang. Not to mention Nina and Jake. Those two are pretty dodgy.”

“You know when I first met Nina she was really nice,” Martha told him. ‘Are you sure that your info about them is right?”

“Well it’s off the police computer… besides Martha… the guys who robbed you are still out there and I know that that one guy is freaking you out. Keeping you safe is my job… remember?”

She grinned and sat back down in his lap. “And who exactly is going to protect you?”

“I have Mother Tony next door,” he laughed. “Brother Lucas…”

“God, speaking of which, Beth’s been in a horrible mood hasn’t she?’ Martha exclaimed.

“Yeah, I guess all the stuff going on with Maddie,” Jack sighed. “I can kinda see where Beth is coming from with the whole Rocco thing, but I really think she’s taken it a bit far.”

“I just hope Matilda’s going to be okay,” she said worried. “She’s a good kid, and Rocco is doing really well since he’s been at Sally’s. I really wish that Beth would just give them a chance.”

“Maybe we should get Beth to stand guard outside our door. She’d scare all the intruders off…”

“Jack!”

“What?” he laughed innocently. “She sure put Nina and Rocco in their place, and they’re pretty bad…”

Martha kissed him gently on his lips. “I can be bad too Constable Holden…”

Jack’s smile widened ecstatically. “Is that a confession Miss McKenzie?” She laughed and hugged him tightly. “Seriously though Jack, you have to promise me that you won’t get yourself into trouble. I want our kids to have their Dad around…”

“As if I’d ever leave you… or our kids… when they come along.”

“Which, if I get my way, will be very very soon, so I hope you mean that Jacky boy.”

She kissed him excitedly, as if a baby would appear right then and there, and she wanted that more than anything else. One part of her was glad to be with Jack. Glad that he was able to make her feel better. Glad that she was able to block out the fear that was building up inside her. She felt safe, but there was a small part of her that worried about him. She knew that if he ever left her… for whatever reason… she would be lost.

A dark figure sat crouched in the shrubbery that surrounded Jack and Martha’s house. Breathing quietly, still as a stone. He was darker than the shadows that draped around him. ‘Soon’, he thought to himself… ‘very soon…”

“I have Mother Tony next door,” he laughed. “Brother Lucas…”

“Maybe we should get Beth to stand guard outside our door. She’d scare all the intruders off”

Loved the humour in those lines.

He was darker than the shadows that draped around him.

And that was a particularly good line, very poetic. Good cliffhanger ending! :D

Yes, that guy is getting pervy isn't he? Sorry about the ending, but yeah, I needed a cliffhanger lol. Thankies for your lovely comments. Martha's not pregnant yet, but I do have something planned...

I thought I better get back to the Rocco storyline... I've been neglecting him a bit lately...

ChapterNinetyFive:

There was something about the way that she looked in the mornings. Rocco couldn’t quite put his finger on it, but there was a brightness and breeziness about her that just sparkled in the early morning air.

“Thanks so much for having me here Sal,” she said as she washed her dishes. “I don’t think I’ll stay for much longer though…”

“Matilda you can stay here for as long as you like okay,” Sally said comfortingly. She closed the pantry and put some lunch into her bag. “Are you thinking of talking to your Mum?”

She looked sadly down at the ground. “No.”

Rocco saw the pain in her eyes, even from where he was sitting at the table, and he felt guilty. He could tell how close knit the Hunters were, and for him to cause such a rift between Matilda and her mother burned him. She was sad and it was all his fault.

“You almost ready?” she said putting a comforting hand on his shoulder.

“I’m off now if you guys want a ride?” Ric said coming down the stairs. Rocco looked between them. “You go ahead with Ric,’ he said quietly. “I’ve got some homework to finish before I leave…”

She kissed his cheek and gave him a bright smile. “Okay. I’ll see you at school then. Bye Sal.”

“See ya guys,” Sally called out. She sat down next to Rocco and sighed. “Okay, what’s the story? Why so glum?”

He smiled shyly. He liked that Sally could tell when something was up. He’d never had that before. Nobody had ever cared.

“It’s nothing. Really. I’m just tired that’s all.”

“Johnny’s not causing trouble for you is he?’ she asked worried.

“Nah, it’s not about him.”

For once he could honestly say that Johnny wasn’t hassling him. “I’m just tired. Really…”

“Alright then,” Sally smiled knowingly. “I don’t want to nag, but you know I’m always here if you need something. Anything… Gosh, I better get going before I’m late. Don’t hang around here too long…”

Rocco sighed and nodded jadedly. “Thanks Sally.”

Nina scuffed her feet in the sand. If it was anything she liked about being in Summer Bay, it was that it was near the sea. Being here made her feel young again. Something she had missed out on, because she had grown up far too quickly. She spotted Johnny further up the beach, sitting casually on an upturned boat, looking out over the water. Before she could smile to herself, a young guy nervously approached him. She recognized him from school, one of the guys who had tried to beat up Rocco with Drew … Davey something… Johnny spoke seriously to him for a minute, but the look in his eyes was more threatening than any of the words he could say. He handed the boy a small package and he hastily stuffed it into his school backpack before running off.

Johnny grinned to himself when he turned and saw her slowly walking his way.

“Hey gorgeous,” he said as she walked passed him. “You left early this morning… What…? You not gonna stop and say hello?”

She thought carefully before walking up to him. “Who was that?” she asked him.

“Who was who?” he said jumping off the boat.

When he looked at her, he smiled, but there was a hint of suspicion in his gaze. “No one, don’t worry about it.”

“I’m not worried…”

“Yeah, well with Roc out of the game…”

“Listen, I’m late I better go,” she sighed.

He grabbed onto her arm. “What’s with your attitude? I thought we sorted everything last night. Or was I the only one who thought it was great?”

She knew that she couldn’t get away from him unless she put on a front. “I’m just tired,” she said grinning. “I’m surprised that you’re not.”

He looked around to make sure that there was no one else around; more specifically her brother, before he hugged her and kissed her on that sweet spot on her neck.

“Okay, now I’m really late,” she smiled pulling away from him. “I’ll catch you later.”

He licked his lips fervently before he let her go. “Yeah… Later…”

She carefully opened her locker, making sure that everything in there was concealed from anyone’s random view. She saw him on the other side of the hallway, trying hard not to look suspicious. But the fact he was sweating and shaking nervously as he palmed someone who approached him gave everything away. It was blatantly obvious that he’d never done it before and in a way she felt sorry for him for being so naïve. She casually walked up behind him and tapped his shoulder gently. He almost jumped out of his skin, that’s how wired he was.

“Dave, right?” she asked him.

He nodded, hoping he wouldn’t give anything away.

“Word gets around fast here,” she whispered. “And I hear that you’re the new pharmacist.”

“Maybe…” he said starting to grow some confidence. “Why?”

She searched her pockets and pulled out a wad of cash. “I usually get my stuff from my brother, but the cops have been keeping tabs on him. With what happened the other night, I need to lay low. Now… You need the income and I need the fix…”

Dave grinned. “Okay, what are you after?”
