Ash slapped Jack hard on the back and laughed loudly, much to Martha's annoyance. "You want another beer mate?" Jack asked grabbed the empty bottles off the coffee table. "Yeah, that would be great," he smiled. Martha flashed her annoyed look at Ash before following Jack into the kitchen. "Jack, how long is he going to be hanging around?" she asked quietly. "Like… today or just in general?" he asked confused. "You mean he's hanging around" she sighed. Jack grabbed some new bottles out of the fridge and gave Martha a miserly grin. "He's been transferred to Yabbie Creek,' he told her. "Chooka's my best mate, you don't have a problem with him do you?" "I hardly know the guy,’ she whispered heatedly. "He did interrupt our getaway remember? But I really wanted to talk to you today, not to mention the fact that he’s telling stories about you sleeping with other women right in front of me…" "Okay, look we’ll tone down the macho stuff,"he replied. "But please, can you just try to get along with Ash, for me Martha?" He rubbed her arms before kissing her gently on the cheek. "Once he starts work at the station, I’ll probably hardly see him. You know how things get around here…" He gave her one last longing look to make sure he’d swayed her, before he rushed back to Ash and their intelligent conversation. Martha crossed her arms and rolled her eyes as Jack left her standing alone in the kitchen. She watched as Ash and Jack laughed and joked about their bachelor days. The more she looked at Ash, the more she just wanted to strangle him. The phone rang and interrupted her vexing and cursing. "Hello Martha speaking," she answered. ‘Oh Hi Tony… yeah I’ll just pass you to Jack…" She sighed loudly as Jack and Ash continued their conversation on the couch, totally ignoring her. "Jack Anthony Holden!" she yelled holding out the phone. "What is it Martha?" Jack said rolling his eyes. "Phone for you, it’s Tony,’ she snapped. "I’m going out, and I don’t know when I’ll be back. I’ll let you two have some quality time alone…" She tossed the cordless phone over to him, which caught him off guard. Before he could say anything Martha had already grabbed her handbag and stormed out the back door. "Your missus has a bit of attitude mate," Ash smiled. "I hope I didn’t make her jealous…" Jack shook his head and grinned before finally bringing the phone up to his ear. "Hi Dad, what’s up?" Tony and Beth sat patiently in the corner of the police station. It had been almost an hour since Jack and Ash had gone to follow up on a lead they had gotten about the car. "Is there any news yet?" Tony said approaching Lara at the desk. "Jack and Ash are on their way back in," she said optimistically. "But we still have all the patrol cars keeping a lookout." Tony nodded glumly and glanced over at Beth. She’d been through enough the last few weeks, he just wished that he could do something that would make her feel better. "Oh Jack mate," he said heaving a sigh of relief when his son walked through the door. "Did you find anything?" "Sorry… Not a lot,’ Jack told him. "But let’s be realistic here, the car could be anywhere…" Ash went behind the desk and started typing away on the computer. "You’ve settled in well there Nadar…" Lara commented. "Next thing you’ll be running the place…" "Well, depends if McGrath comes back doesn’t it…" Ash laughed. Tony took Jack aside and handed him the wad of parking tickets that Beth had gotten. "Listen, Jack, do you think you’d be able to do something about the parking tickets?" he whispered. "I know it’s cheeky of me to ask, but Beth’s really stressing out and I just want to take something off her plate. Anything…" Jack sighed and looked over at Ash who nodded hesitantly. "We can take a look at them… I guess," Ash told him. "If they’re only minor infringements we might be able to get them quashed." Tony smiled and gave Ash the tickets. "Look anything that you can do…" "We’ll try Tony," Ash said politely. He typed eagerly away on the computer again while Jack stood on the other side of desk watching Tony comforting Beth. "These are pretty hefty fines…" Ash commented. "Like... the officer hasn’t even given a reason for the infringement…" "Who was the officer that gave it out? Jack asked curious. "I mean I pretty much know all the guys here…" "It’s only got their ID number. But I can get HQ to send a fax and verify the ID for us…" "Good news guys," Lara said putting down the phone. "A patrol car has spotted the car not far from the highway. You guys can meet them there if you like." Jack nodded and motioned to Tony and Beth. "Ash can you drive us in one of the squad cars?" he asked. Ash grunted and nodded, busy reading the fax that was noisily coming though. As Beth and Tony raced out the door, Ash quickly took Jack aside and handed him the piece of paper he’d ripped off the fax machine. "Does Beth have any enemies?’ He asked Jack. "I don’t think so… why?" Jack answered. "You know the parking tickets… issued by officer PN9543. It’s Detective Nathan James Owens..." EDIT: Sorry!
