Oops, I forgot to mention an inspiration for a fanfic (poem) came from a brilliant thread title on BTTB! :P

And, like a lot of people, I get inspiration for original fics from songs too, particularly song titles. :)

I'm obsessed with oneshots right now.

If they turn into chapter by chapters, so what?

But anyway, my point. I WANT to wrote a oneshot, but I don't have a storyline. So, this is where I need help, please!

Name a couple that AREN'T together, or aren't even IN the show (eg. Noah and kit, but NO J&M!! (please))

I'm picky, sorry.

Name a place. Anywhere.

Name a random storyline, or what someone is doing, eg. Iren's baking, or Colleen is hit by a car, whatever.

I'd just LOVE to have a look at some of these answers, and i think it's really inpirationla...ideas?

P.S. Is this a good place to ask this?

Can I just put forward an idea?

I think the Fan Fiction forum shouldn't be post counted. It's not really H&A related... well, it is, but it's nothing to do with the storylines. (In most cases) So why should it add to the count? I'd prefer it much more if the posts weren't counted, and maybe it'll stop people from not commenting on fics. I know there's a couple people who read mine who don't post, and sometimes it makes me sad. :( lol. As all you authors will know, it's nice to get reviews and such... so it's a bit of a pig when you see someone reading your work and not replying, right?

I just think that if we got rid of the post counts for this forum, then that'd solve the problem! (Or at least get rid of the members excuses lol)

I was going to start a new thread for this, but there are LOADS! If you think I should then I will.

I don't know if anyone else feels that way. I personally don't like the idea of post counts, as it's very misleading in my case. I don't talk about the ongoing H&A storylines that much on the board, I rarely comment on the Australian/Spoiler discussion, so why does it look like I post 7.1 times about H&A? That's all Fan Fiction! lol.

Just wondering if anyone else feels this way...

I do appreciate comments. I LOVE them infact, because I think it gives the writers help, ideas, and it makes them feel their fic is bad if they have no posts. Sometimes, if the readers do READ it, but don't comment, the writer may think its not good, abandon it, and think it's no good because of no comments....does that make sense?

So, yes, I agree with that.

Nicole, your wish is my command.

"I agree totally, You... erm... rock my socks :P "

There you go, as you requested!

But I do have to say, I am with Nicole on this, loads of people will write total crap in their posts just to get their posts up, and although I have wrote crap in mosts (I actually do it quite alot) it because I usually talk crap too :P So it isn't just to get my count up.

If they stopped post counts in the fanfic forum it would be alot better in my opinion :)

I completely agree about wanting comments to know that your fic is actually being read if you are an author, and i dont see the point in post counts, so I agree with you 100%

I don't think I understand how not having post counts in here would encourage people to post more. Surely it would encourage people to post less? I mean the type of people that do that aren't going to come in here at all if they can't get their posts up.

I think post counts are there to generally show a contribution to the forum as a whole. If people feel the need to cheat on that... well, that's their own pathetic business. I just happen to think that a lot of people work really hard in this forum, either to provide other members with home and away related stories (how are H&A fics so different to spoiler speculation or character analysis in the other forums? This is just a more creative and in-depth form of it) and encouraging writers to do that. I don't see why people who spend most of their time in this forum should be penalised for that.

And on a personal note, I'm a librarian and my post count has been going crazy because of all the comments threads I've had to open. While those posts themselves are nothing, and get deleted, going to the trouble to open the threads to help to clean up the forum, I think, is a fair way of contributing to the forum. And to me, that's what post counts should be about.

Morally, I'd object to blocking the post counts in here because I think it implies that what we're doing is irrelevant, and it's not. Practically, however, it would stop senseless posts - things like hitting 10 fics in 10 minutes all with the standard message "please update." Although I'm starting to PM people that I see doing that now, so hopefully there are less drastic ways to deal with that problem.

I still don't see how getting rid of the post count would make people want to reply to a fic. I can't see any connection between the two. Sometimes I don't reply to fics because everyone's already said what I wanted to say, or because a particular chapter didn't move me. Sometimes I'm just too darn lazy to get around to it (and that's a lot of the time, actually). I wouldn't take it so personally, and I certainly wouldn't blame the post count. Unless someone can explain to me what the connection is because I really don't get it.

I agree with Emmasi, i don't see the connection either. I mean sometimes when i see someone reading one of my fics, and if they don't comment i think it's up to them whether they comment or not for whatever reason.

And i don't think removing the post counts will make it any better, if people don't want post a comment in the first place then removing post counts will result in less comments overall, in my opinion. Because, people will think "they have taken away post counts, so we post more but no one can force us".

But i will say Nicole, you say a few people don't give their comments but one of your fics has like 450 replies which you have only posted over fifty posts in. Which seems like alot of comments from other people to me, and surely with that amount of comments it wouldn't matter if a few people don't post their comments? :)
