Chapter 23

"Martha what is it?" Natasha asked

"They haven't found a donor" Martha sobbed uncontrolably.

"Martha, we're so sorry, but they will find a donor. You just wait and see" Sian said.

"How do you know that, my little girl is dying and I can't do anything about it!" Martha yelled. "I can't deal with this anymore. I can't cope. What am I going to tell Amie or Abby?" Martha cried.

"You tell them that Abby is going to get better, because thats the truth" Natasha replied.

"What have I done to deserve this? I've got to get out of here" Martha stood up, and started to run up the beach. Sian ran after her.

"Martha, your kids need you. You can't run away from this. I'm only going to let you carry on, if you're going to the hospital" Sian said.

"Yes, for your information I'm going to the hospital to see my children. Now let go of my wrist" Martha pulled her arm away.

"Me and Natasha will be at the hospital in about half an hour, so I expect to see you there" Sian watched her run off. "Great, she better not run off" Sian said to herself.

"Look Drew, it was really nice meeting you, and I really want to meet up again trust me. But Martha's just found out that Abby doesn't have a donor, so I really have to get to the hospital." Natasha explained.

"Thats fine, can I call you? Maybe I can take you out tonight" Drew replied.

"Sure, do you want to put your number in" Tasha handed Drew her phone, Drew did the same.

"There" they handed each others phones back. "So I'll call you" Drew said,

"Yeah, sure, I'll look forward to it" Natasha started making her way up the beach. Sian had explained to her that Martha had said she was going to the hospital, but Sian doubted she actually was. Sian had decided that she was going to have lunch with Lucas, so it was left to Tasha to decided wether or not to go after Martha, or spend some time with Drew. Being the loyal sister she was, she choose Martha.

She soon got to the hospital and headed into Abby's room. She looked around for Martha, but she couldn't see her. Jack was there with Ellis and Amie, so was Tony, he was playing with Abby.

"Hey Jack, has Martha been here since you know, you got told" Tasha tried to be subtle, aware that Amie and Abby didn't know.

"No, but she did call me, to tell me that she was with you. Is she missing?" Jack asked.

"Well, we don't know where she is. If you call that missing then she's missing. We were down on the beach when we found her crying. So we went over to her and she told us. Then she ran off, she told Sian she was coming here, so I thought I would check that she was here, but she isn't" Tasha explained.

"I'm going to go and look for her, she needs to be with someone. Could you look after Ellis and Amie with Dad?" Jack asked

"Of course, shall I call you at any time?"

"Call me, if I'm not back by seven" Jack quickly rushed out of the hospital, not waiting to see what Tasha had to say. Martha could be anywhere, she knew Summer Bay so well, she knew places that Jack didn't so how he was meant to find her. First he started on the beach, even though he knew she wouldn't be there. Like he thought, she wasn't there.

Next he went to their house, he was pretty sure she wouldn't be there but it was worth a try. "Martha" he called out as he walked inside. "Martha, are you here?" Jack yelled running around the house checking the rooms. There was no reply and he couldn't see her. He decided to go down to Noah's and then the diner. Maybe Alf had seen her. Alf was serving at the counter, he obviously hadn't been told what they had found out.

"Hey Alf, have you seen Martha anywhere?" Jack asked.

"No, sorry mate, is she missing?" Alf said.

"No, I just haven't seen her since this morning, and her phone is switched off, I just wondered if you'd seen her" Jack replied.

"Sorry mate, I haven't, but if I do I'll tell her that you're looking for her"

"Thanks Alf" Jack added before heading over to the diner. When he got there, only Sian and Luc where eating. Martha obviously wasn't here. He headed back down to the beach. No-one had seen her, Jack was worried. "Martha where are you?" He called out. He didn't realise that Martha could hear him. He decided that he would go to the last place where Martha could be.

He soon reached the top of the cliffs, Martha was there. Martha suddenly turned around at the sound of someone walking towards her. "Jack! What are you doing here?" Martha asked, she had been crying.

"I've been looking for you everywhere. I've been so worried."

"Why?" Martha asked.

"Because Tasha came to the hospital, and she told me everything" Jack said. Martha could sense the worry in his voice.

"I'm sorry, but I just can't handle it anymore. My little girl is dying, I can't do anything about it" Martha ran into his arms.

"I know Martha, I know" Jack held her as she sobbed into his top. Jack was finding it hard to be there for Martha and the kids. After 10 minutes of staying in the same place Jack broke the silence. "We really should get back to the hospital. The kids will be wondering where you are."

"Yeah I guess. I want to see all of them" Martha let go of Jack.

"Come on then, lets get back to the hospital" Jack held her hand. "You can do this"

Chapter 24

“Mummy where have you been” Abby asked Martha

“I just went for a walk babe why” she asked Abby

“Well aunty Natasha is going on a date tonight, I heard her telling aunty Laul” Abby giggled

“And who with may I ask” Martha asked her

“Erm Drew Curtis” she answered

“Oh no your not sunshine hes bad news” Jack told her

“And why not” she asked him

“Martha do you want to tell her or shall I” jack asked

“Well he slept with his girlfriends mum” Martha sighs

“What and” Natasha argues

“And your not going end of” Laura tells her

“Shut up you don’t even no the guy Lau, I do he’s lovely and im going and you can’t stop me” Natasha argues

She storms out and Jack goes after her

“Tash wait” he tells her

“You no Martha doesn’t need this right hun, she needs your support” he informed her

“Ano im sorry but I really like him” she tells jack “For once someone likes me and there not using me to get to Sian” she added

“Well ok then we can give him a shot” jack smiles

“Thank you” she smiles and gives Jack a hug.

Back at the hospital

“Mummy you so did” Amie was arguing

“I did not young lady” Martha replied

“Daddy do you remember when me and you and mummy were watching high school musical the other night” she told him

“Which time” he groaned

“The second time daddy the second time daddy” she told him

“Yes what about it” he replied

“Didt mummy say that I could have the CD and the karaoke version” she told him

“No she didt” Jack told her firmly

“Mummy can aunty Laul stay with me tonight please” Abby asked Martha

“Erm I don’t know Laura” Martha said

“Of course I can” she told them all

“Martha, Jack can I have a word please” Rachael said as she came in

“Of course” they both said

“Maybe we can go to my office” Rachael said forcing a smile

Once they were in Rachel’s office they could sense something was wrong

“Rach what’s going on” Martha asks her

“Well im not sure how to tell you this but…” Martha cut her off

“Oh my god have you found a donor” she asked hopefully

Rachael hated giving this news to anyone but when it’s your friends and two very distraught young parents it seemed to make it ten times worse

“No Martha what I need to tell you is that there is no way Abby can survive a transplant she really does only have a year left maybe two” she told the young parents

Jack stood up and rushed out of the room this time it was his turn to show his emotions Martha ran after him

“Jack wait” Martha pleaded as she ran outside after him

He kept on running Martha stopped but she seen him fall to the ground and she ran up to him and just flung herself into his arms and the two of them just cried

“Im sorry babe I just couldt here Rach telling us al that” Jack finally spoke

“It’s ok” Martha told him

“It’s just that this time next year she may not even be here” he cried

“Shhh its ok” Martha soothed him as he cried

Back at hospital

“Laura could you please take Ellis and Amie home and stay with them please me and Jack would like to stay here with Abby tonight” Martha told her sister

“Of course yer, Amie no’s were everything is for Ellis?” she asked

“Yeah she does” Martha said forcing a smile at her

5 hours later

Martha had fallen asleep on the sofa bed in the room and Jack was sitting by Abbys bed just looking at her sleep when he remembered a conversation him and Abby had a while ago

“When I grow up daddy I want to be a nurse like all the nurses here who are helping me get better”

“And then I want to get married to a doctor, so we can play doctors and nurses and then I want to have a little baby so I can push her round the beach in a pram”.

Jack then started to cry again and this time abbys woke up and looked at him

“Daddy why are you upset daddy” Abby asked Jack

“Im fine princess can daddy have a hug please” he asked her through tears

“Of course daddy you can have a special one” she told him

The next day

“Hey guys I have some news Abby can go home today” Rach told Martha and Jack

“Yayyyyyyy” Abby started to say over and over again

“We are going to keep trying to find a donor you never any Abby could get stronger” Rach told them both

“Were going to lose are daughter Rach so don’t give us false hope please” Jack said

Back at the house

Jack had called everyone that needed to know this to make sure they were there when they got home that included Tony, Beth, Luc, Maddie, Ric, Alf, Sian, Laura and Natasha.

“Welcome home Abigail” everyone shouted as they walked through the door

“Amie can you take Abigail and go and play in your room please” Jack tells Amie

“Okay sure we can play high school musical Abs”

“What’s going on guys” Natasha asked picking up Martha’s unease around everyone

“Yeah is everything ok” Tony asked also no worried

“Well not exactly you may all need to sit down” Martha said holding on to Jacks hand

“Rachael told us last night that Abbys not getting any better and she’s not strong enough to have a bone marrow transplant so she said Abby has one to two years left” Jack said tears rolling down his cheek the same was happening to Martha.

Natasha walked over to them and pulled Martha into a hug Luc did the same to Jack

Amie and Abby walked out and seen their parents, aunties and uncles and grandparents all upset and Amie demanded to no what was going on

Martha and Jack decided that they would talk about this later on when everyone was gone and the girls were in bed and Ellis but Beth had just offered to mind Ellis overnight and they had accepted.

10pm – Jack and Martha’s room

Martha and Jack were laying in their bed in each others arms when Martha broke the silence

“Jack what are we going to do? Are we going to tell the girls?” she asked him

“I don’t know Martha I really dont no” he answered her

“Yano what Jack I think we should” she told him

“I was watching Abby sleep last night and everything was running through my head” he told Martha

“Like what” she asked him

“Like the other week when we having a talk and she said she wanted to be a nurse and marry a doctor and have a little baby” he told her tears chocking him “and last night it made realise that none of that will happen I wont be able to walk my baby girl down the aisle, look at her unsuitable date for the prom, her coming to me when a boys broke her heart” he added and he started to cry he could stop the tears tat were flowing and neither could Martha they both cried and cried

Meanwhile in Abby and Amies room

“Amie can I get in your bed please” Abby asked Amie

“Yea come on then” Amie said moving over so Abby could get in

“Amie im I going to die” Abby asked Amie

“Abs of course not im your big sister and daddy and mummy said its my job to protect you and that means to look after you now if you died I wouldt be doing a very good job would I so Abs with me looking after you your not going to die” she told her and gave her a kiss and a hug

All Abby did was hug Amie back like it was the last hug they were getting from each other

Martha got up and went into their room to check on them and she was just looking at them both laying there asleep in each other arms.

Jack came behind Martha and put his arms around her waist

They had decided not to tell the girls not yet anyways.

Oh my god do you have any ideas how upsetting that was to write

I know you all hate me!!!!!!!!!!!!!

Hehe I got a hug off Jack because I'm a rebel and love Drew, the other rebel.

Anyway, reading on... Aww I hope Abby gets a doner and lives and becomes a nurse, who marries a doctor, and has their baby and lives hapily ever after after having her heart broken by her boyfriends and running to Daddy for comfort.

Anyway I am starting a campaign- Save Abbbbbbby!
