SUMMARY: When he is seven years old, living with an alcoholic father and mentally unstable mother, Kane Phillips and his eleven-year-old brother Scott bury a jacket, leather rucksack and bloodied carving knife on the edge of the graveyard of the old Summer Bay church. Scott makes his brother promise, in exchange for him keeping Kane’s dark secret, that Kane will help him dig up the bag again one day.

Kane is now married to Kirsty Sutherland. After tragically losing their first baby they now have a five-year-old son Jamie and have settled in Summer Bay, Kane captaining the tourist ferries and Kirsty training to be a PE teacher.

Flynn and Sally Saunders have gone on a round-the-world trip, leaving Rhys and Shelley Sutherland to run the caravan park in their absence. Both now married and living away from the Bay, Dani and Jade have come to visit the family. Learning that Kane’s father, Richie ‘Gus’ Phillips, was a murderer, they unite in their efforts to gain custody of Jamie.

Jamie knows that there are secrets in his father’s past because he’s often heard him waking from the nightmares. But not even Kirsty knows what happened that terrible night...

But someone else does. And Scott Phillips, with his drug addict girlfriend Melanie, has finished his long jail sentence and returned to Summer Bay to blackmail Kane into keeping his promise...

But the past has kept its own secrets. And as the story unfolds, some people are about to learn things they never knew about themselves and some startling revelations are about to be made...

Yeh, I think you can tell I’m getting pretty close to the final few chapters now... :)

Adored the 'twiglets' thing - great stuff!!! :D

Have to admit that I've totally forgotten how this story started out, what with it having come so far and with so many twists! Loving the way that you keep churning out original material!

Can't wait for more... dying to see the conclusion of the drama (didn't you say you were approaching the end about 10 chaps ago? Or was it my imagination?) - and who will survive... :-/

You've forgotten? How do you think I feel? I'm constantly having to go back and check things out myself!!!

Re the ending, what happend was, I made the mistake of starting out with too many characters and so I've had to add stuff about them which I didn't originally plan and it's made the fic much longer than it was meant to be. But the twist about Kane not being a murderer, yeh, I've known that from the very beginning.

And I've known something else from the very beginning too. Don't want to worry anyone, but I've got one helluva twist in the next chapter...

Thanks for your great comments, everyone, appreciated! :D

Ooooooooh, I don't know how much longer I can wait to find out what happens next  And don't worry about the fic turning out longer than it was supposed to be - its so good I don't want it to come to an end.

Awww, thanks, Shahhhnun! :) I often go through phases when I think this fic is a load of rubbish so it's fantastic when I get positive feedback.

I have a temp promotion in my job and the extra hours mean I haven't had much time to write. I've started on the next chapter but I think it sounds very wooden at the moment so it'll need some work yet.

Anyway, thanks again, it's always brilliant to know someone is reading! :D
